    Hi guys! This review was originally published on December 11, 2022 but I made a mistake about how the battery is mounted. I did not realize that it is removable, or that an adapter is required to charge off-bike. I've done my best to make corrections here and in the writeup. Thanks for the comments that were posted by @408MTB @waltcoleman2460 and @ozzyontherocks

    Definitely some design issues. Removal of the battery is unnecessarily complicated.

    • @ElectricBikeReview

      It kind of reminds me of the early specialized Turbo Vado models that used a long 15mm thru-axle bolt to secure the battery. Is it required additional time and tools to get that pack off, but didn’t add key locking security. I think I prefer this Marin solution, but there are definitely other ways to go. I like what Moustache has done, and Trek has some good solutions with the RIB side mount… But they’re a bit heavier.

      At least you dont need a bike specific key for it.

    I'm jsut getting back into riding after a 30 year break. I dont expect to be doing much jumping or racing just paved or groomed trails mostly. I've got a Rift Zone XR on order arriving next month. However I've now been looking at ebikes a bit as I understand them better. This one has me curious for sure.

    You said it’s a medium but I can see an “L” on the seat tube? How much do you weigh? As the medium has a 350 spring and the large has a 450 spring. I’m 76kg so it says I should be on the 350. But I’m 5.11 which says I should be on a large. I think I would like the stiffer 450 spring.
    Edit. Also, does it have walk assist? Hold the button to help push it up a hill?

    • @gpearce11
      @gpearce11 Год назад +1

      All things considered, I'd say you're much better off just getting the frame that fits you best, because a new spring isn't expensive enough to warrant buying the wrong size (especially if it's a standard spring instead of a fancy lightweight or progressive spring).
      Also, yes, the EP8 does come with a walk assist as standard, so I'd assume this is no exception.

    Is there a way to hook up an inline battery on my Easymotion 27 pro mountain bike? Thinking of converting to a mid drive motor.

    I have an 2018 Easymotion Evo 27 Pro mountain bike in very good shape. Have had trouble with torque sensor in past but fine for the last year or so. Recently the display showed error code 13 then stopped coming on. Have cleaned all connections but no luck. Does anyone have number for BH Bikes in Europe. They seem to have left the USA and parts are not available here ! Or if you have any ideas how to fix it or get new display?

    The front shock actual hits the frame when rotated too far?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Год назад +1

      Yes, I have seen this behavior with other electric mountain bikes in the past as well. The larger downtube can make contact with the crown of the suspension fork. Some companies will lengthen the frame and reposition the steer tube to solve this, but that changes geometry. Here’s an example of a bike that does this: electricbikereview.com/trek/rail-9-9-xx1-axs/

      @scootaa44 Год назад

      @@nomad-pq4yw8iy7v all modern Trek non ebikes have a thing called knock block which stops the fork from hitting the downtube. They say a straighter downtube makes the bike feel more direct, which is very common with modern geometry

    • @nomad-pq4yw8iy7v
      @nomad-pq4yw8iy7v Год назад

      @@scootaa44 That system is different more refined.. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think if you didn't have knock block some of those bikes still wouldn't hit the frame..

  • @andrewpm2
    @andrewpm2 Год назад +1

    Nah. The double mullet concept of both wheel size and tire width is interesting but I can't help but think the whole mullet thing is just another trend. They should've gone 29 fr/rr that allows for 2.3-2.8 tires fr/rr - that would be a "do it all" bike.

    The seat post looks like a broomstick. The flex must be bad.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Год назад +1

      It's amazing how strong these materials can be. Despite being skinny, most dropper posts I've tested are very sturdy. Usually rated up to 250lbs, but can likely handle much more as they expect rider weight to collide with the saddle on occasion. Some droppers posts have ~10mm suspension travel built in, a bit of play to reduce impact if you take a big hit.

    You are not the right guy to be reviewing this bike. Riding a couple loops of your backyard doesnt give you enough data or context to assess a bike like this

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Год назад +7

      I partially agree with you, the context was not right and I'm not an enduro rider. However, I'm able to cover the systems and components well enough to add value for someone who cannot see the bike in person or is trying to find something that is not listed by Marin. I work hard to cover a wide select of ebikes at different price points, and I do it mostly free of charge. Covering a bike that's a bit out of my expertise helps me grow, and even though this environment wasn't perfect, I still did my best. It's also added to my website, which has thousands of reviews and some good tools. There are 10 years worth of reviews there that provide a lot of insights for someone who is getting to know the space. If this one is interesting, they might see it on EBR, then explore deeper elsewhere.
