Robby Krieger playing Zappa. Now, I've seen everything.
Are you a Zappa fan as well Rusty...?
@@trevorwhiteman8056 Of course.
@@maxcohen13 Do you have a favourite album or line-up..? I'm gradually discovering early stuff with Chester, George and Napoleon. ....but I do love Ruth Ike and Bozzio.
@@trevorwhiteman8056 The 70s lineups that focused on the musicality tend to be what I listen to the most (Grand Wazoo, Over-Nite Sensation / Apostrophe, etc.) But stuff like Them Or Us and even the song he did with his daughter Moon (Valley Girl) has a special place in my heart.
In his wet dreams maybe, that performance was bad in so many ways...
Zappa's not dead, he just left early
..he just smells funny!
Frank would have said :
"Gail, please give Robbie
a couple of cups of Coffee..."
That’s definitely what he would have said! 🤣🤣🤣 hahaha
Absolute legends playing music from an absolute legend. Love it!!!
♥️
The guitar player from The Doors covers Frank Zappa? This is going to get INTERESTING.....
I actually have this on Vinyl. Not only that but I'm also a guitarist and stumbled upon the bass line for this not too long ago, it just appeared in my memory and came right out through my fingers which led to an extended improv on it. Always have been a Zappa fan, ever since a teenager. Also was a Doors fan and while I'm too young to actually have seen the Doors live, I did see Robbie Krieger play live at the El Mocambo one night way back. I remember he was backed up by a couple of guys from another band called, The Knack. I also recall that they played a cover of Zappa's Black Napkins which was great. I think Krieger is an amazing and distinctive guitarist who was instrumental in the fame and popularity of the Doors. I'm pretty sure he actually wrote Light my Fire, the Doors first big hit. Thx for sharing this.
Holy Christ, Sal on trumpet!!! Wow!!!
They make it look SO easy. I guess when you've been playing for around sixty years, you get good. Real good.
Great song, performed by great musicians. Can't ask for more.
Just gorgeous how he wraps his guitar around this
INCREDIBLE THANK YOU!!! Sal Marquez on there too = I am in heaven :)
Nice to see he's still around
It is always a pleasure to listen to great musicians playing the best compositions of Zappa✨💖🎸👍 (Chunga's revenge is the best LP,for me)
Superb performance of one of Franks finest. Top class Musicianship all round.
Robby is always humble and a lot of talent.
Professional. It stands to Zappa’s standards
of musicianship, which is all one can say of this
piece of art. Well done.
Sal Marquez OMG! Fantastic! That answers alot of questions
First question: Is Sal Marquez still alive? YES! And playing!
GREAT VERSION
First time I saw Robby Krieger playing with a pick.
He used a quarter on at least one album cover.
@@christophersleight19 how do you tune an album cover ?
On the album cover, Robby was shown playing a guitar.
The pick he was using was a Quarter, .25 ¢.
This was in the early 80's, I think.
Nice job Robbie
What a gift.Awsome..Thank you
This is just priceless! Thank you gentlemen.
I just noticed that Sal Marquez is there too. Wow!
Excellent guys! Beautiful!
My 3 Fav Zappa Albums :
1) Chungas Revenge (1970)
2) Absolutely Free (1967)
3) Another Band From LA (1972).
Naming a favorite Zappa album is like naming your favorite child. Couldn't or wouldn't be possible. I've heard many live and the studio recordings of this one piece and can't choose the best....Frank's entire body of work is just awesome.
Apostrophe, One Size Fits All, Just Another Band From L.A.

Ditto. Never heard an FZ album I didn’t love!
Weasels baby. Maybe Bongo Fury
@@seanbrennan5192
You could throw in Fillmore and Roxy as well
Just magnificent. Great treatment of an iconic tune
Great rendition, thanks! 🙏
This is pure gold
What a find!!!! fantastic. Thanks a lot :)
Sounds great! First thought was how Krieger makes it sound like the Doors but that's just his style and tone. Second thought was if the ZFT gave them clearance.
Great song, great players.
loved it, thank you!
Great song, great musicians
Great job, you guys!
The best cover !🎸🎸👏👏👏
Excellent!!
Wow!! Very nice. Love FZ and I love you guys too 👌 good jam!
fabulous
I just love Arthur. So easy to see what Frank saw in him.
Still playing great experience to watch and listen.
Joel killing it!
Sublime.
Thanks! Great tune!,
BRILLIANT ROBBIE AND HIS BAND SHOULD COME AND PLAY LEEDS AND GLASTO......GREAT MUSICIANS ESP ROBBIE ANS COOL GEEZERS . YO!
Robby Krieger is an underrated guitarist.
Great stuff. Been a long time since I've listened to Chunga's Revenge. I always wondered if The Doors' and Zappa's paths crossed much. They seemed to each be on their own distinctive musical planets, even though they were pillars of the LA musical scene and major forces in the 60s counter culture.
The Hippies and the freaks
@@jdjones4825 I don't know, The Doors were a little too dark for the Hippies. Zappa was no hippie, that's for sure. Crosby and that crew were more the hippie type. And they were all neighbors in a canyon. Must have been a strange place for fun and games of all sorts.
@@Peter7966 you referred to pillars of the L.A. scene...the two pillars of the late sixties were arguably the hippies and the freaks...Frank's a self proclaimed freak and Jim was a commercial hippy
Just a couple bands from L.A.
From the cesspool s of excitement
Where Jim Morrison once stood
Had a guy in High School named Chunga..great basketball player...huge Korean dude he was hilarious!
Great catch, thx
Thank u so much you are a good men bobby krieger
Take care yourself and you're good musician
Long live to hippys🍀🙏✌🍷
Well this is a treat
Sounds majestic, like Frank.
Amazing
Gefällt mir ausgezeichnet.
Nice 👍
Zappa sent up The Doors on several occasions but Robbie wouldn’t have taken any offence.
sounds good !
More proof that tone is all in the hands. (but that vintage SG helps)
I was reading Dweezil Zappa's description of some of those SG's and they weren't just vintage. They were heavily modified for various tones. Very cool stuff.
Very nice.
Beeindruckende Musik
greats !
HOLY SHIT!!🔥🔥🔥
My friend, Jock Ellis in trombone
EXCELENTE)))
grande frankie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good job,
Next up, please, the Transylvania Boogie.
Let's just go straight to the Black Page.
Impressive playing on the kit….
♥♥
And it's a Tango
Y E S !
Merci😊
♥️
Tink Runs Amok!
Didya get any onya….?
Does this band tour? If so, when and where for 2023?
fuck yeah
awreety!
awrighty!
Arf!
Make some jazz noise!
Are the fluffed guitar notes intentional? I can't listen to it.
Rest of the band are very good though.
Who is in the band?
Me like
:O
1970
Ok ....Sal....Arthur...who's the third Zappa alumni
Jock Ellis
Nice. Lacks the power of the origina for me. But I do. Like this version.
Robbie improvises a bit like fz….
I like Robbies style but it’s vastly different from Frank’s, still fits the song well though
Robbie needs a white headstock..
Definitely slower than Frank…
Would turnover in his grave.
10 for effort considering!
If it’s just a warm up then….???
And all these years after the Doors, I've never been able to listen to Robbie Krieger's guitar playing. He plays guitar like he's just picked it up after not touching it for over 40 years. Dweezil played better when he was 15.
Terrible version.
Boring.!.
only when guitar soloing gets too clever for itself and goes on too long, IMO
Try the original this version seems way too slow
