    Thank you for this info! 11 years in my journey and I wish Ik this before 2-3inches broke off some of my locs at the bottom (I believe this was because I had color at the tips maybe two years into their lifespan) but I threw those tips away 😔 some I see have thin spots along the loc and now I know how to repair them and combine properly. And also learned not to worry because I’m not thinning at the roots 😊 thank you 😁

    You just saved me from the chop. My roots are thinning and I stopped maintenance about two months ago.I don’t really know why the thinning is happening and everything I attempted seemed to not work at least fast enough to stop it. I will definitely try braiding my new growth. My stylist even gave up on my hair and suggested I do the chop and then get permanent loc installed but I don’t want to give up on my hair. late to this video, new to the channel... I did firstly the braiding method but then purchased a crochet set, pushed the hairs in and can see the progress after 3 months :D. Its mainly a few to the front that been thinning out and perhaps it was due to me constantly twisting and playing with those. However while going through a rough patch in life, I left it for a few months, without twisting and this made it get back it's thickness.

    Brahhh,thank you,everytime I look for loc videos it's normally female. I'm a Barber and I've had my locks since 2013. I figured that I over did the Maintenance, I just assumed each new growth is supposed to be retwisted. I saw a video where it said stop retwisting, so I have stopped and I have notice some new growth. My question is i have some mild thinning on the top. I knkw how to braid ,and I have done that as well as combine,and I know how to use the crochet hook. But for the life of me I can not get the Crochet method. If I knew how,I have enough new growth on the top to re-twist.
    I also learned the gard way that bleaching isn't a good idea for locs,it dries your hair out,and makes the new growth brittle. I haven't bleached my hair in over 7 years. But I did use a base color to color it and it didn't dry my hair to bad after using color treated. Shampoo,and I use coconut oil and pink oil ,I regrettably started my locks with Bees Wax.
    It took ten years for me to get all of the bees wax out.
    I also learned you're not supposed to cut the ends of your locks, but I disagree,each time I would cut my ends my dread looked thicker but I could be wrong tha KS again.

      Hey bro, thanks for writing me. You’ve been in the game longer than me, congrats!! I’m glad after 10 years you’ve finally gotten that bees wax out; that’s quite the feat to be honest.
      As far as the crochet hook method, yeah it takes some getting used to. I’ll look for my video on it and include it (HOW TO REPAIR A LOC WITH A WEAK BASE-how to repair your locs using a crochet hook

    i like to massage my scalp in morning and before sleep using pick combs can it thin out the roots? my locs are matured. but because I have long straight type hair my locs roots grow fast and like to flip / twist by itself and then mate so roots are thinner than lower locs ends as ive done some backcombing and palm rolling to help mate them in the beginning. What can I do to make roots fluffier (can look messy i dont care) and stop them flipping /twisting / crunching n looking thin, without damaging roots. THANKS

    Hey you! Really enjoyed watching this. Would you give me your opinion a thinning issue that I have?
    My locs are semi freeform by default.
    I really didn't know how to retwist safely so I instinctively braided my loose hair on to the loc, then 3 years into my journey I saw a video you did and realised it was a thing!
    My locs are different thickness because i just grabbed sections and twisted to start - some locks have unlocked loose hair about 2 inches from the bottom. This is because I naughtily wore accessories when they were about a year old. I didn't realise that they were not ready for embellishments. Totally put me off wearing them again.
    I am 4 years locked and last year I cut about 2 inches off some. This was because where they had wavy parts - the thicker end of the locs were hanging off and about to snap. My locs are strong along the length but in places I have those wavy loose parts... It's quite a unique look and of course I love that. Luckily I never wanted a neat manicured loc journey.
    I'm not sweating over it - it is what it is.
    In your opinion do you think those wavy areas may lock over time? - My hair has a fine texture.
    PS. Thank you for your consistent content, please keep it up. x

    • @AtreyuLocs
      @AtreyuLocs  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. To answer your question, I do think that those wavy sections might lock over time, as that seems to be what hair naturally wants to do. But I do wonder why it hasn’t so far, as in what has prevented it? But if the hair is wavy, then it simply could take longer to lock up. Honestly, it’s hard to say without seeing it but, in short, it could lock up. Either way, I’m glad you like it for its unique appearance 🙂

      The braiding that is done with your new growth is what is strengthening your loc. So, yes, you keep the braid in. I guess I still don’t understand your question. Braid the new growth into the loc and when more new growth comes, if it doesn’t grow into your locs, then braid it in as well. I hope that clarifies things for you.

    What if you have thick locs but we you retwist it the new grow is very skinny

      Just wait on the skinny retwisted hair to start budding . All new growth starts off thinner than the loc until it buds... Well as far as I know

    I've got a problem with thinning locks mostly near the middle and almost ends
    could you do a tutorial on how to braid in that hair
    I usually pull it then glue it back together but I hate that

    • @AtreyuLocs
      @AtreyuLocs  3 года назад +5

      You can’t braid the new growth into the loc at that distance, unfortunately. It’s simply not long enough. You can, however, fold the weak area over itself and crochet it together to thicken that area. If I ever have a spot like that, I will definitely demonstrate.

      So Atreyu what I ultimately ended up doing about my thinning locks.
      I told you I had felting needles
      I just couldn't handle the finger pricks those needles are much too Sharp then I remembered my
      Weaving needle and so far that seems to be working👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😊
