If history is offensive then it doesn't matter where we live. Everyone has failed. We learn from history. We don't scream "I'm offended" Just because people who lived in a different time had different ideas because of what went on back then.
Regular Japanese people also suffered.....war is very horrible..... On a lighter note LOVE THREE STOOGES...these shorts were made when we were AT War w Japan............🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱👌🦋🙏🙏
The "Japanese" played here were probably Chinese, but not necessarily positively. Japanese-Americans fought in WW2 in Europe, and many were highly decorated. So, it is possible that Japanese-American actors might have played in films like this. I'm not saying that this did happen, but I'm saying that Japanese-Americans helped in the War effort, they fought for America, and they might have acted in films too. They weren't all kept in internment camps the entire time.
You Nazty Spy (1940) was the first film that showed someone imitating Hitler. There was some significance in that film, one of the biggest was, the film satirized the Nazis and the Third Reich and helped publicize the Nazi threat in a period when the United States was still neutral about World War II and isolationist sentiment was prevalent among the public.
This was fun to watch! Would love to see this series continue. I think you should have her watch the short 'The Yoke's on me'. It is similar in nature to this short.
Interesting watching this little Asian angel watch this particular Stooges short! And she is smart enough to put it in the proper perspective. America has come a long way with regards to our relationship with Japan and the Japanese people and our Japanese Americans.
A fun fact that alot of people don't know about is that Moe originally wanted Mantan Moreland to replace Curly after he passed away but Columbia didn't want backlash against their films by casting an African American Stooge.
Moe had been watching his stuff for years and Moe wanted him for a replacement of Shemp after Shemp passed away, even Shemp thought he would be a great third Stooge. Shemp came to the act after Curly was out for the time being (although he never recovered).
@@craigfazekas3923 He was great in the Charlie Chan films with Sidney Toler. I also liked him in the movies he co-starred with Frankie Darro in. I actually own the box set.
Remember, this short was made in 1944 when America was at war with Japan. It's not racist as it was just mocking our enemy. I can only imagine what the Japanese thought about us and how they talked about and mocked us. Would that have been racist?
SHE'S NOT YOUR PRISONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET HER BE SEEN????????????????????? ♥ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if She truly wants...)
Well, too much of explaining from the guy seemed so repetitious and corny! Well, the thing to be understood is that Japan was at war with them and naturally they might have been inclined to make fun but they didn't! There's nothing noticeably negative and the guy seems like typical obsessed Americans who search for offences. They portrayed normally and respectfully unlike the short films containing Germans where they overtly made fun. These old movies are so superior! Old is gold.
This wotld is too hypersensitive now. So called "comedy" isnt funny anymore because its all politicly correct hypersensitive garbage. Oldee comics like these are real gems!!
Didn't. I'll have to do that next time I introduce a girl to the Three Stooges! I got the perfect person soon! A chinese girl who doesn't know the Stooges!
If Americans made these awful depictions of Japanese people in the 40s, I have to wonder if folks in Japan had any slapstick skits with insulting depictions of Americans back in the day. I'd love to see what they come up with if they made anything like this lol
@@jerrywatchesmovies I saw an animated film from Japan during WW2 where the Japanese soldiers were cute animals fighting British soldiers. Parts of it was comical, but it was mostly rah-rah...get the bad guys propaganda.
@@jerrywatchesmovies theres a japanese toon of mickey mouse bombing japan, while a japanese version of mickey(i guess) wearing a a tiger costume fights him off

I love the one where Curly goes bonkers when he hears the song "Pop Goes The Weasel" and they make a boxer out of him. That's just hilarious.
I just looked it up, and this film is called "Punch Drunks."
@@yohannbiimu Yes that is a good one, one of my favorites.

Sense Japan doesn't teach ww2, how can she put the idea that US was at war with Japan. They don't even know they lost.
I always loved The Three Stooges and I always will.

Sounds good! We'll look at that one next! We should get a German to react to some of the Anti-German ones too ;)

"Jap" and uncharitable portrayals in film pale to insignificance compared to what Japanese and Americans were doing to one another in the Pacific.
Great work. Very cool
You guys rock man. That PC shit is nonsense. Keep up the good work mang!!
