Hey Phil, I always enjoy when you talk to Taylor. I bought an Overdrive Reverb early this year from him and was very impressed that when I called to order, he talked to me on the phone about what I was looking for and the customizations that I wanted. I've been over the moon with how great the amp sounds. It is worth every penny.

Phil, best guest EVER! Very interesting and engaging! Do more of this type of one to one but live! Thank you!
I have an AN amp which I had to sell a DGT for but that amp is freaking amazing. The sounds are beautiful; it’s the first amp where I camped on the clean channel for days without missing the dirt. Wonderful amps and completely worth the sacrifice.
I've asked myself that same question. 'Dumbles' are modified amps as I understand it, generally classic Fenders, and evolved into specific handmade amps, with 'variations on a theme' (?). So, never having played thru one I've followed various reviews of the amps and pedals and I think I sort of 'get it'. For myself I have found that going thru the Effectrode Blackbird Valve Pedal into my vintage Blues Jnr. gives me something special . . . dumblish or not, I dunno but it certainly takes the Fender into a new area that's pretty terrific.
Great Interview Phil!! Im feeling so lucky I bumped into it!! Tell people about it on this FRIDAY's show!!! Best thing Ive seen in Months!. Taylor's almost as cool as that McKnight cat Ive seen! And thats hard to do. Hey to the Real Ms. Shawna too.
I own a Amp Nation Bombshell and a Spark40, so let me explain the difference. The Spark40 is great, but like eating the exact same meal day after day, no matter how good it tastes, you get culinary monotony 😕 - and with an Amp Modeler you'll get tonal monotony. The Bombshell is different. I don't know if it's the wall voltage changes, tube temperatures ... who the bloody hell knows; but you get small fresh variations in tone every time you play through it. And then there are some days you just go WOW 😮 and you mind meld with the amp, and you play until your fingers bleed. Amp Modelers will never deliver those special days that you'll remember forever. It's hard to explain until you've experienced it; but I've tried by best guys, and I hope this helps.
Bruce Egnater tells a fun story about working on SRV’s Steel String Singer. It makes perfect sense for what is expected from that amp. I’m sure Phil could get the story from the source.
I have found that, in my house, that keeps me in a small bedroom I cannot play above the low 80s in decibels but, I need to hit an average of 80dB to get a usable sound out of an amp. This is true with any type of amplification and any type or size speaker. I have a half dozen options and each has delivered the same result.
The only answer is Custom Tones Ethos Overdrive. Second place would be Tubesteader Beekeeper. Third place would be Vertex Steel String Singer, with an additional clean boost before.
Good to hear someone who is actually building Dumble style amps dispelling the myth of every amp being "totally different." I learned quite a bit about what qualities are attributed to this style of amplifier. Great interview.
For the OLD SCHOOLERS . . . . We need a Amplified Nation MIDI control 2 or 3 channel 2U PreAmp ..... and a 6L6 / EL34 blender 3U power amp. For those that still run FULL RACKS ! ! ! ! I use the SYN2 and the ART SGX2000 Express .... Time for a new Rack Mount Tube Preamp / DSP !
Appreciate the break down on amplifiers themselves. Very informative. Especially how the speakers react to certain heads. And you're right. It's just nice to have an amp at home that you can rip on. I've been on the search for a nice tube head. What's a good head in the 500-750$ range?
I worked a show by an up and coming Latin artist this week, both guitarists were using modelers and it was the strangest thing being onstage and not hearing them at all except back from the mains.
I was disappointed when I first got my Les Paul. It grew on me now I love it. I think I like it as much as if not better than my Strat at times. It depends on my mood I guess.
I’d love one of these amps but it would just be throwing money into something I can’t use. My katana is all I use these days. My custom 50 and dual terror are too loud for the house
“Cherp” and “chewy” -got that folks? Cherp and chewy is what started to define the dumble sound. We need amps and pedals that are chewy and cherp. Plus, they’ll sound like you’re playing a horn. 😂👍🏼
As Dumble amps all seem to be the same thing but mildly tweaked for the player surely it should be possible to clone a basic Dumble and fit a knob to switch between Mayer, Shepherd etc. modes?
Supposedly the middle channel of the new PRS MT100 has a Dumble style sound to it. Have you tried that yet to test it out? If so, does it really have a Dumble sound?
Coming from a studio guy, playing anything digital (plugins, profiles, modelers, pedal boards etc...) it all comes down to your playback system in order to have that same experience as a cab in a room. But if u have an iso room with cabs not even in the same room and you are playing thru your same monitoring system in the control room.... there really is no difference. It's all preference at that point cuz sound is king in the scenario
If I had the money I would buy one of Taylor's amps. and Send it to JOHN CORDY, he would appreciate the Boutiquness of that Amplifier, and he has the Talents to utilize all it's potentials.
Agreed, and that is why Baskin -Robbins has 32+ ice cream flavors. I have found that in life, I can go on with 3 amps, (1) a fender-ish amp, (2) a brit-ish amp, and (3) a practice amp . . . To go with my 20+ guitars.
Now we just need the train wreck amps to be done and re released... And profitable and affordable. Of course nothing will ever be affordable like this for me... But that's fine..
I don’t understand this interview. Aren’t all of his designs essentially high end clones of existing circuits? @Phil no disrespect meant, but - this feels off-brand for you.
@@NyneForteI hear you. The big bloom pedal is a direct clone of a small builder, which, to me, isn’t super cool. And all of their amps are direct clones too. And it just seemed like there was a conversation in this vid that was off. Sweetwater and others have carried Fuchs amps for years, which are more modified original designs. This is a conversation from the early 90s being rehashed, and on direct clones. Im not knocking the brand - might be great build quality and research and all. And yes, there are many clones of many types. It just seems off brand for Phil to give this airtime, let alone 80 minutes of it.
Great interview ! I’m interested in Dumble-like pedals … would be a great comparison video … also how does a Kemper Dumble sound compare? Or in a Spark that has the ability to mimic other amps ? Amplified Nation prices are high end so I wouldn’t be able to even go into his website! 😂

Great interview Phil! I really appreciate the small builders and what they do! 100% agree nothing beats the feel of a good tube amp and a guitar!
Great interview! Taylor is awesome! I've been looking to buy an Amplified Nation amp, and he has been great about answering questions.

Effectrode is wonderful stuff!!! Amazing

This makes me want to sell some stuff to buy one of these amps to support the little guys!
Thanks Phil, great interview and double prizes this week. Have a wonderful week. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Great interview Phil !
Thanks for the great additional content Phil!! Just a hair away from 400k!! Well done🎉

If you turn up a 100w amp to blow off steam in a typical suburban neighborhood, keep it turned up so you won't hear the cops knocking on your door.

Stone Gossard's amp of the current era is an Amp Nation, which was no doubt huge
Got the overdrive reverb and it’s awesome.
What a great title for the video. Got my attention!
"Elmo labels" cracked me up. I think he meant Dymo, lol.
Would really like to see a review of the Wonderland Overdrive V2 if you get a chance to have another AN on the show.
I have found that, in my house, that keeps me in a small bedroom I cannot play above the low 80s in decibels but, I need to hit an average of 80dB

Effectrode blackbird is unreal

Hi Guitar 🎸 Guy nice video 📹 and workmanship and Amp Guy 👦

There's a spectrum of Duble tones. Howard had several templates, and he'd tune them to each particular player/client.

I have an Ethos. Pretty stellar. I don’t think of it as a Dumble though.
A Dumble is $100k+. Otherwise you don’t have a Dumble! But the Ethos is fantastic.
“Cherp” and “chewy” -got that folks? Cherp and chewy is what started to define the dumble sound. We need amps and pedals that are chewy and cherp. Plus, they’ll sound like you’re playing a horn. 😂👍🏼
My favourite drive pedal is the ROYAL OVERDRIVE by Van Weeldan, it’s epic.
So he using the microphone from the laptop I am assuming or that's a very defective shure lol
Dumble, Dumbler and Dumblest
LOL
I like the David Lindley sound
theres no way he was using that sm7 it sounds like a webcam mic
He's definitely not using headphones for monitoring which is very problematic

What makes a Dumble - it is hand built by Howard Dumble. Nothing else is a Dumble. Same thing with a Rembrandt painting.
2024 and no one can make a new tube amplifier. All we can do is clone or modify existing circuits.
was his mic not on? lol
If you think about it, the gear obsession is silly.
Humans are never content are they.

Seems like it's something you wouldn't know was "special" unless someone tells you so-and-so used it on blahblah and is worth X million dollars.
Been smokin some pretty good weed? Hooah? How is there a dumble sound?
Eminence EJ 1250, Patriot, Swampthing; thoughts???
The ultimate Dumble should be called a Dumbledore.
No.
It'd be a lawsuit era amp!
Weehbo has a pedal called the Dumbledore
Yes!!!! ❤
Now we just need the train wreck amps to be done and re released...

He really likes his amplified nation amps so how is it off brand? U like what U like and want to talk about it right?

You complaining about a gear channel interviewing an Amp Designer? 😂😂😂
@@honnaconna7312 lol
I would still buy a two rock over an amplified nation amp personally
Shin's Music Dumbloid.
I heard the shin pedal is literally a tubscreamer basically thats what mythos pedals said...he took it apart
Its easy lmao dumble is very fender
