About the overhanging part: Just for the sake of geometry I would make it shorter or place the pillars closer to the edge. But as long as it doesn't break it would work just fine like this too.

It looks amazing! Concerning the placement of your pillars, it think it’s too early to tell. I believe you mentioned that your paneling is temporary. I would wait until you see what the final product looks like before you make a decision to move them.
