Grimgar is definitely one of my favourite animes just because of the realistic approach this anime gives. They can't adapt right away. They can't do anything by themselves. It kind of reflects real life except without all the monsters
This anime is just so felt through. It's not escapism like other anime. This one tells you life is hard, but you have to work hard and keep moving forward.
This is an amazing anime, brilliant story, beautiful animation and feels so real at times. Desperately needs a second season and more, the LN just gets better and better. Hate that A1 gives things one season and then bins them
imo, one of the most artistically beautiful isekai anime. its has this calm atmosphere in its early episodes and we really feel that they are living in that world as they wake up early to prepare for breakfast, getting ready for hunting monster or having breaks while in one.
This is my little precious gem of the anime. The style animation plot and characters were so different from normal isekai (honestly Grimgar was isekaied released to early for it's own good probably) that it made me fall in love with how realistic and melancholic it is while beautiful songs are playing in the background. Probably not most enterntainig anime but it's felt one. Made me read the novels, even though pacing and story in there is all over the place I still welcome volumes 15, 16, 17 and soon volume 18 into my collection. Yes, me or writer might have a problem.
Easily on eof the best isekais ever made and its a damn shame they didn't continue it. Gorgeous artstyle with beautiful drawn characters that's rare to see these days.
@@iori6723 It wasn't popular because of how seriously it takes itself and it's slow start. Overall decent show, but I can see why it didn't generate hype. Isekai viewers usually tend to steer clear of depressing shows. Since isekai is usually used to escape the harshness of our reality. I remember much preferring my second viewing of the anime because I could binge it all at once. Watching this one weekly was tiring with how slow it was.
@@shikitohno8446 While true to a degree, the message of the anime isn't all that deep. It's just about overcoming trauma and moving forward. For any other Genre, that's great. But for Isekai, the story needs to be well written for it to actually work. And tbf the written story for this is pretty generic. Insert every JP character trope into a team where the "leader" sacrifices himself for the party. We've seen this a million times. Nothing about the writing of this is really that amazing. It just follows the formula pretty well but there is no humor to help ease up on the seriousness of the story, so it will get tiring at times. And it really didn't do much to get the audience emotionally invested enough to care when the healer died. Good anime, not some underrated marvel by any means though.
The gear and tactics in this remind me SOOO much of FFXI (and FFXIV, to a lesser extent) and I love it. I miss that game so damn much- and hell yes, being a thief was the _best._
Problem I have with alot of these kinds of anime is how OP the characters are, and that loss specifically feels so temporary. This one hits hard right from the start and the characters really develop
4:50, I hate how the other boys got reprimanded too like they tried to stop him, they dident peep on the girls, nor looked at them. God I fucking hate female characters that act that way.
I rewatched it a few months ago, still holds up pretty well, but it's a victim of the "isekai" movement of its times, it could have worked perfectly well as a simple fantasy, but no, isekai was getting more and more popular so they had to go that way (talking about the writer/s).
Man the anime is based on a light novel that came in 2013 and isekais werent that popular those years, there are few to no reference to it being a isekai, just sometimes they try to remember something from the normal world and they fail
That's true, there are such anime - "hey, let's make it an isekai". But our world is barely mentioned at all. And it's really just a fantasy anime. I watched a pretty bad one called "The 8th Son," and when on rare occasions the main character mentioned he was from our world, it was like, huh? It didn't make him react differently to anything, and he didn't try to get back. However, Grimgar has the strict game functions, so it does its basics as an isekai. And they don't mention the ordinary world because they lost their memories - that's acceptable, I think. It was really just about getting an anime with the game functions.
I really don't feel like this is the case. The start of their story very specifically needs them to be completely out of their depth, and in this case it completely avoids the self indulgent aspects of isekai with how none of them have any memories of their past lives to compare their new reality to, and uses it more like an amnesia type effect and builds it into the lore of the world that these arrivals happen all the time and not that the main party is some special chosen ones summoned to save the world. If it was a straight up fantasy series then they would have at least some sense of what they are doing or some backing or support for their endeavors, some sort of parental figure who had to of raised them in this world or simply knowing the world better.
This gem of an anime is basically a better looking dark souls, mistakes are costly, death is permanent and even if you can return someone from death its not free. Unfortunately for you guys this gem isn't getting a second season It's just not popular enough so my advice is do as I did go read the light novel you won't regret it.
We need more isekai animes like this, realistic take on a genre, shows character progressing from weak to strong, makes characters have memory loss and has high stakes constantly.
This NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDS a Season two. Wow they took MMORPG Isekai and did it the most realistic way possible. Everyone who loves RPG or Isekai's needs to watch this amine. Early heads up on the Fomo wishing for a Season 2
Ah this pains me a little, lol. The way this story starts off and how you captioned it is exactly what a story I've been working on would go. I'm not disappointed or anything, just kinda bummed that an idea I had in mind for a while has already been used (possibly not the first time as well) but, I still wanna see if I can change it up a bit. The entire plot for mine is different but getting back to this anime I'd say it's pretty interesting!
It was interesting in this anime, that they weren't the hero team. They were the ones left over when the strongest had formed a team. And thankfully, the anime didn't make the hero team a bunch of arrogant guys. They're just going about slaying the tougher monsters as heroes should.
This is one of the best Isekais in all of Anime imo, there has never been another one like it and i don't there ever will, unless we get a next season.

How did I miss this gem? It looks like a fun watch. Reminds me of my early days online, before games were overrun by pvp lol. Rogue class is usually OP but requires finesse over brute forcem I see our boy is walking the path of the Grinning Shadows, good on him! 😆.

I have Grimgar on blue ray... It was actually a very good story... I felt like it needed a season two... I have been waiting but never heard anything. (which is often glossed over or not mentioned at all) Also, there was good action. I would like to think that if that had happend to me, that I would not only survive but thrive. But you never know... I could have been shot with a crossbow on my second day there. That is what I liked about this one. I didn't know WHAT would happen next! I just kept thinking, they are going to kill Mary as soon as I get attached to her! 😨 8/10 Glad I purchased it!
The best isekai that isn't even technically an isekai is Tower of Druaga. The story is wrapped up in 2 seasons with no loose ends/cliffhangers, and it doesn't get nearly enough love.
