    111 years later. The Titanic is still one of the tragic ships that ever made the newspapers.

    Y’know, i never really understood those depictions of the dome collapsing with water while the waterline hasn’t reached the dome yet. It’s visually impressive, to be sure, but also kinda confusing.

    • @MrTitanicfanatic2
      @MrTitanicfanatic2 2 года назад +40

      Just has to do with how buoyancy works. The waterline outside the ship doesn't indicate where water is inside the ship. The exterior waterline of a buoyant object will always be higher than the internal waterline. If the two are equal, the object isn't buoyant. The exterior waterline would have washed over the dome well before the staircase was fully flooded, and the glass in the dome was not designed to handle much in the way of water pressure.

    • @Jim_61
      @Jim_61 2 года назад +4

      The staircase was under water when it broke but teh water inside didn’t rematch it yet and the water outside broke it with its pressher

    • @DerpyPossum
      @DerpyPossum 2 года назад +4

      Self-correction: Yes, the waterline inside definitely wouldn’t have been the same as that outside.
      But, in theory, given the lesser strength of the windows and some of the walls, would the difference in waterline truly be that *vast?*

      @@Jim_61 actually, i can’t. The “edit” button doesn’t do anything and simply disappears whenever it’s pressed. RUclips has always been a bit “wonky” on my end like that.

    Its so strange to understand that every chair, fence, painting, light on titanic is being dry and "normal" during the sinking only till one moment, when it gets under water, and then it will never be the same again... hope you get me

    • @EversTrainz
      @EversTrainz Месяц назад +1

      What's so strange for me to understand is that the Titanic was once an actual floating ship, the spot where she is now would have been empty before April 15th. And it's also really weird to think that in that spot there was a ship, and in just 2 hours it was completely underwater

    0:11 In reality, it was apparently only the RMS Olympic that had that clock for its grand staircase, whereas the Titanic’s grand staircase had a mirror instead since they didn’t have time to install a clock there because the ship was in such a rush to leave for its maiden voyage.

    • @megalodon11996
      @megalodon11996 2 года назад +9

      The glass dome wasn't designed to carry the immense weight of the water above so it all came crashing through, this would likely have been before the internal water level was equal to the water lever outside of the ship. The stairs themselves were likely ripped from the foundations and ejected through the roof as the bow section made its descent to the bottom. It's sad to see such beautiful architecture and craftsmanship get destroyed in such a brutal manner.
