A fine talk by one of the most revered authors of his time, though sadly, much forgotten today. Though I've known of Kipling for decades and bits & pieces about his fame as a writer of tales from India, I've only just recently rediscovered him, actually reading some of his short-stories but there's yet so much more to undertake, the novels, poems, etc. The audio-quality of this priceless recording is simply amazing, absolutely incredible to find & listen to this, actually hearing the words of Mr. Kipling himself!
Recorded at a luncheon at Claridges Hotel, 12th July 1933. It was Kipling's first broadcast. G. K. Chesterton introduced him. There is a film clip on RUclips too.
"Piggy Lou" and "Jakin" from "The Drums of the Fore and Aft" are characters that can never be forgotten because of their plight as written by Rudyard Kipling. The World will long forget but not the pages of literature outlining their lives as written by Rudyard Kipling.
To my mind, his accent may be British Indian but I thought he would sound a lot more like an Indian than he does. I often wonder if anyone under 30 knows or cares who he was. I am so glad we have a recording of his voice! Thank you for posting this video.

This is a warm and touching tribute to Canadian writers and the Canadian spirit by one who knew Canada well...Jay Johnson

Wow. Honesty. Thank you Rudyard.

Love the Victorian accent.

This made me cry like a little bitch.
Era um homem muito sábio,
muito bonito.
Da mesma safra do Sigmund Freud, do Claude Monet e Auguste Rodin.

Yes?
👌
He sounds quite "common". You'd think rubbing shoulders with the elite would have made him more plummy.
