A lot of people commenting seem to not realize this idea came from the "An American Family" documentary in the '70s about a family actually named Loud. It was kinda the first "reality show" on national television.
Ah, I miss my childhood. Saturday night live was actually funny then. N the show an American family wasn't all that great. Awesome spin on the loud family, lol
This was 40 years ago. This is our generation of entertainers and are fading away quickly. I feel more sad for the youngsters who will never appreciate the trailblazers they were. BTW: I remember watching this when it first aired. I don't feel old, I feel lucky.
@@joeuser2360 The same can be said about the talent that was around before your time. Every generation loses out on the stuff they missed. Luckily now we have methods to bring life back into the old stuff.
gilda's the only one who understands how to deliver really loud as if it's the way you speak all the time. reminds me of jerry stiller as frank costanza. it's an operatic sort of energy
My family is a bit like this...what happens is to gain control of the conversation you have to go about 5 decibels louder than current conversation...and so it escalates and doesn't always reset even when their is an actual lull in the conversation. I was numb to it until I went away for college and came back and was like...oh my gosh we're loud.
This sketch would have been even funnier with a cameo by actor Ed Lauter as their neighbor, Mr. Louder, politely asking Mr. Loud if his family could talk any louder.
Ricky Lennon in fact, the skit’s origins relate back to the notoriety of a 1971 documentary, ‘An American Family’ - but the person with the inside track who explained all this to me, many years ago, is himself long gone - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_American_Family

I remember how funny I thought the "Loud Family" was back in the day; until they moved in next door to me. Add in some slamming doors banging around, and you'd have my neighbors.
Yep... But I think I can only see the original Lynn Sr, Rita, Lori and Leni Loud in this episode, whereas the original Luna, Luan, Lynn Jr, Lincoln (the main character), Lucy, Lana, Lola, Lisa and Lily Loud aren't there! 😢
I had to share this with my daughter who has a 2 year old with Down Syndrome. Baby Amelia loves her voice. I mean LOVES HER VOICE. My daughter has just grown used to having to yell in order to be heard. Laughing so hard.
Even though as a kid I saw this when it originally aired, it never occurred to me until just now that the inspiration for this skit was actually the PBS documentary 'An American Family' which focused on a family named the Loud's. the HBO movie Cinema Verite with James Gandolfini was also about them.
And this is why I am glad that my family is a bit on the introverted side, well except for my mom and nana ,because they're extroverts, and I am in between, I consider myself to be an ambivert!
oh man, that broke through the caramelized brain cells, the Loud Family, LandShark, Todd and Lisa, comedy and satire 'not for kids' thank the cocaine in Lorne's nose for the Birth of SNL. yw
Such a treat to see a young and vibrant Carrie Fischer.
yeah cocaine was good for her
Schhwingg!
Not to mention absolutely lovely.
Fischer? 🤔🤭
The only time I saw the David Letterman show live in person, she was the guest. Would have been in the early 80s I guess.
A nice memory.

Dr Emmett brown if my calculations are correct when this baby hits 88 miles per hour you're gonna see some serious beep 🤣

Now, what difference would it make. Today, the parents would probably buy the pot as a birthday gift for their kids.
Felt sad when realising half of the people in this skit have gone
Puzhen Jiang
Yes it’s sad that of the six main characters, three have passed.
@Quill Carrie Fisher, John Belushi and Gilda Radner are no longer with us,

The fact that Carrie Fisher and Dan Aykroyd were engaged at one point blows my mind. They would have made such a cute couple! RIP Carrie.
And John and Carrie played an ex-couple in Blues Brothers
You know what else is mind blowing? Dan and Bill from Ghostbusters are in this skit.
Dan Aykroyd married up to Donna Dixon.
didn't carrie cheat on him with paul simon?
Was watching this at night and it actually woke my family up
You should use headphones when you watch videos at night ;^)

Or maybe it won't 🤔

When the drama teacher tells you to be louder on stage
In the 80's, my mom used to call my friend's family the loud family, and I just now got the reference.
Gilda could light up a room. What a talent!
I'm sure this is how Nickelodeon's Loud House got started.
The sad part is that this six minute sketch was somehow better than any episode of that cartoon.
@@Speems I love The Loud House and I think it is better than this skit, but I respect your opinion.
Thank you for uploading this. I've been wanting to see this on you tube someday after seeing on the tv.
Still is my favorite SNL skit!! “I LIKE YOU TO MEET MY SISTER JOAN!!” “HI!!!!” 1:41 🤣🤣🤣
Gilda was such a treasure.
Yes she was!
She STILL IS AND FOREVERRRRR WILL BE....JUST LIKE CARRIE FISHER!!!!
This sketch would have been even funnier with a cameo by actor Ed Lauter as their neighbor, Mr. Louder, politely asking Mr. Loud if his family could talk any louder.
This is exactly our family. That's why others think that we're are always angry while having conversations.
Holy cow, Gilda could project!
Yep, she could definitely scream! =P

my mom's maiden name was Loud and she was just telling me about that!
The original loud house
And way better too!
I turned down my volume before watching this...
I hadn't seen this in a long time. One of the greatest sketches of all time.
A classic. It's brilliant because there are some moments when a normal speaking person would yell so it blends together with the excessive yelling.
Ur so beautiful Gilda Radner.. miss u very much. Beautiful.. and funny.❤❤
R.I.P John,Carrie and Gilda
Radner is really loud 😂 John lifting his earphones to listen
