    Canna, it is disgusting that people would delight off someone else not surviving. When you said that, it reminded me of some of my own experiences. I am proud of you.

    Hi, Canna! First, I am so sorry your family has been hit with all these things all at once. Next, I think this one has been one of the most practical and inspirational videos I've seen you do in recent years. I found you around 7 years ago searching for financial advice for single parents. This felt a lot like that one. Your simultaneous vulnerability and strength make you so relatable and help us see that although things may stink now, we can make the future better with hard work and a positive attitude. Thank you for sharing your challenges and your resolve to make tomorrow a better day! Love from Florida! 🌞

    When I started my financial journey, you were the first one that I followed almost 3 years ago.
    I started to take control of my finances, 3 short years later I am 1 mill wealthier via my various investments.
    Thanks Canna!

    Just as we moved in to our new house about 2 years ago (and our savings were pretty much wiped out from the purchase) a number of expensive events happened in close succession. Fridge and dishwasher needed to be replaced. We had an ice storm that broke our electrical and oven. A minor car accident. It hit hard! We bounced back but what we learned is that in out 6 months of emergency fund we have to add all the insurance excesses for the year such as medical, home insurance, car etc because things happen and they wipe out accounts or worse, wreck people financially!

    The point of an emergency savings is to use in an emergency which is what you did, so everything went to plan. No one plans emergencies but the point was to be able to deal with it and you were

    I'm so glad I found you again after so many years. I used to watch your videos many, many years ago and I have carried your tips to this day, and my emergency funds have gotten me through so many stormy periods of my life. Thank you so much for that. I'm so delighted you're still here, empowering other people (especially women!), and I'm gonna stick around again to learn of more ways I can put some funds aside. :)

    I think "$0 savings" hits differently though when you know you've got $200,000 in an investment portfolio.

      and a ton of Chanel bags, cartier jewelry, and a house in an expensive zip code... feels disingenuous tbh

      I understand what you mean, and I understand what Canna is doing as well - she’s documenting her journey as she’s doing it, and it’s useful advice, but it might be worth changing the concept of the video to “How to start over with $0 savings” so she’s giving the helpful tips without the clear indication that she is actually much farther along the journey than $0 savings, and as such, alienating some of her audience.
      Love you Canna; just a potential observation off the back of this comment! :)

    • @marabanara
      @marabanara Год назад +3

      Yeah but she is very transparent about it. Even at the very beginning of this episode, she mentioned the portfolio and the loan that is part of it.
      Also, the blow she and her husband have been dealt would ruin many. What struck me, for sure, was the cost of her appliances. I thought they were so expensive at first mention, but when I think about my own and how these days it would easily cost double to replace them, and while they might not be the same as hers, they’re not as wildly different as I first thought.
      I think it’s telling in a good way that even someone like her can admit her emergency savings weren’t enough and were wiped out, because that’s showing her own advice in action. Keeping that cash means less debt.

      Can I just say, that while this comment seems snarky, that's not my intention - I actually think Canna's advice is brilliant. I just wanted to highlight the difference in the feelings of panic and desperation when you are actually at rock bottom $0 with nothing to fall back on as opposed to her situation.

    Thank you for this!!! When 2020 started, we had over 20K in our emergency fund. The last few years have got us lower than $3k (YES I’m freaking out about this)… between the extra freezer going out (twice), both the kitchen and the garage fridges went out (all of the fridges and freezers went out around the same time… THANK GOD we have a commercial size ice nugget machine and lots of coolers)!!! We’ve had expensive vehicle repairs (cheaper than new cars though) TWICE, 3 car wrecks (each time it was the other driver’s fault… they either turned into my hubby’s car or hit him in the back because they followed him too closely and when he had to hit the brakes because he was trying to not hit whoever was in front of him… he got hit in the back. Our 9 year old son has been with him each time it has happened.. and he might have a bit of ptsd from it 😬), a microwave fire (quickly caught thankfully… popping popcorn of all things… so just the microwave was completely toast & not everything around it. Our washer and dryer both had to be serviced several times (by hubs, he can fix most appliances that can be fixed with a part, for the most part) & then eventually had to replace both the washer and the dryer. Microwave was thankfully still under warranty. Son has put a metal stake through his foot, broke his foot at a church picnic, & I’ve damaged my already arthritis/carpal tunnel wrist falling in our garage- because I fell on the epoxy floor (because I was cleaning up the huge puddle of water the 2nd time the freezer quit working… apparently a breaker got tripped) and now all of the refrigerators & the deep freezer all have alarms that sound on both of our phones if the temperatures go higher than they are supposed to. Add in the inflation hits with our insurance (our home insurance has more than doubled in the last 2 years & was $8K in March instead of $4K… with NO CLAIMS ON IT IN YEARS)!! I know there’s a lot more than that but those are the main things that I remember… literally things happened in 3’s… although about 6 big things happened In about 3 months time. It’s been exhausting. Ok. Maybe I have PTSD from all the trauma of the last few years… needless to say… we are in concentrated mode to build that thing back up!!! On the other hand… it did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do. Save the day when disaster struck and we had the $$$ set aside to properly handle it and didn’t have to worry about getting a loan or going into credit card debt!!! So that’s a humongous plus in my book!!! I cringe thinking if we’d gone through all of that drama without having a healthy emergency fund in place!!!
