  • Basically I’m now needing to install two ceilings to make this work without spending a fortune on replacing it all. I still believe it will look alright once the trim is up so I’m carrying on

Take a slight pause on the ceiling to think if you have any doubt. This is your best time to get it right, as I'm sure you already know! You don't want to look up with regrets once everything else is installed around it. Good luck.

Love the chimney surround doohickey. Sets everything off nicely I have white ceiling in the back half of my boat and the light reflecting on it is beautiful. So once finished your ceiling will be a joy too. Plus I will be boating past you in a couple of weeks. I will give you a wave if you are around as I do so.

It already looks great, its now uniform and that's the critical thing. Also its light, roomy, gonna feel more spacious, it'll be good. Definitely think you were wise putting the ply behind it, be thankful for the comments, they've steered you well here, nice work and great content as always. You've not made a wrong choice ... or at least ... you pulled it out of the bag when it mattered, haha! Nice job!

As part of a small group who restore and operate 1960s BR Diesel Multiple units for the Midland Railway Butterley, I understand the frustration of panelling ceilings. However, the finish is fantastic and with the flue trim and lights in place you can really get a good feel for the final look. Far from putting up with it, you really should be proud of what you have achieved.
PS. Loved the music thank you.

Hi James - apologies only just viewed your last couple of videos - may be a bit late - great idea to us 3>6 mm ply on ceiling and the use of "Bathroom Panels Ceiling Cladding Shower Kitchen" is the way we went as panels are 2600mm x 250mm & 5mm thick - this allows ceiling to walls (with small trim / we did use hardwood timber) attach to ceiling / ply via staple & use stainless which allows invisible fixings & no uneven areas on face side of boards. Remember do treat 3>6mm plywood with clear treatment as per internal walls. Can send photos of end result & ps easy to install! Regards George

Keep cracking James. Setbacks are just that, everything will get done and if all once is said and done and you aren’t happy then you can always replace the ceiling in a few years time. Once it’s all done it will look fine chap. Don’t let your head drop, bollocks to Alan et al. We go again!

Can't believe some of the negative tosh in these comments. The music is great, I loved it. Beautiful harmonies. So what if it's not to everyone's personal taste - What music is? Why be so rude about it?
I think the ceiling will be absolutely fine when you get the trim battens on it to contrast the white. T&G would just be too much wood everywhere to my mind. Keep crackin' on mate, it's a very engaging watch. 👍

Is sheep’s fleece wool insulation suitable for boats?
I know it’s used in old houses as it breathes & old houses seem to suffer from as much condensation/damp as boats do, well my old house does 😂 Just thinking that fleece insulation is easy to stuff into gaps the same way spray foam can

Do you have drop ceilings in the UK? They are used here a lot, you put up an aluminum grid system very light weight and then slide panels in to the grid, panels are different sizes , 2ft x 4ft or 2x2 panels. They are easy to cut and you can replace panels as needed. Also lights can take the place of a panel where needed. You would lose a couple inches but it looks like you have room. Would be so easy.
