Actually Hipper regards Glowworm rather nicely, a nod to the respect Hipper's crew gave Glowworm's.

Yeah, Hipper's crew (most notably her captain) was so surprised with Glowworm's crazy ramming of Hipper that it was deemed as "respectable" since at that time it was deemed brave (but somewhat stupid) for something as small as a destroyer to try and take on a huge behemoth like Hipper. Not to mention ramming her as an act of last resort.
All survivors of Glowworm were rescued (yes rescued, not "captured" since they were indeed concerned for her crew) and when they rescued the crew that survived, they treated the crew well. They didn't imprison them in the ship's brig or mistreated them. In fact, they treated Glowworm's crew as brothers and were feeding and entertaining them as if they were their own. Sadly though Glowworm's captain and some crew died though when she sunk.
Hell, it was Hipper's captain that sent a letter of recommendation to the Brits to commend and award Glowworm's crew for their "bravery".
And in game, Glowworm is probably the only one Hipper doesn't show her flat chested Tsundere side to. She respects her which is apparent in her voicelines.

This reminds me, if you use Le Malin, Le Triomphant and Charles with her skill cuz the first 2 have the highest speed stat in the game you become meme SPEED.

arashio is also a good comp (not better than leipzig tho) cuz she also reduces ramming damage (idk if you could stack her dmg reduction with leipzeigs or not)

She's an early ship where there were some wild ideas that didn't pan out (see also Prince of Wales). But as some have said, she was originally slated for a starter spot and the sign of such can be seen on the older gem screens. Why the change isn't known, though the starter spot did ultimate cost Javelin a more historically accurate skill (ala Minnie, Cassin/Downes, Phoenix)
While not meme, she is memorable and cute, though with her artist vanishing, who knows about a possible refit.
Also said in a few spots is that the respect Hipper's crew had or the Glowworm and her valiant efforts is reflected in a line of Hipper's saying to put on a splendid performance.
I thought she got cut as a starter because War Ship Girls(Another Boatgirl game) also had a Glowworm starter. (I could be misremembering)
From what i heard in the cn server javelin replace glowworm bcuz of the better personality????its more of the anime trope thing with javelin or it could also including the character appearance im not that good with languages, anyway theres still glowworm auto battle notification everyday....they both cute regardless
Yeah just look at glowworm va and javelin va, idk much about va but from what i understand javelin va arent the most popular one (understatement of the year, heard she voiced a random character in girl frontline i think) that said i only know laffey va is something about the dragon girl anime, it could be coincidence and this is just me overthinking crap not related to the rumor

Yea,that was a reference to RL Glowworm's demise,during the Invasion of Norway,she spotted Admiral Hipper heading for Narvik(I think?),so not letting Hipper away unharmed,she transmitted her and Hipper's location before HEADING FULL SPEED AT HIPPER,SCRAPPING OFF HER ARMOR BEFORE FINALLY SINKING

I really want Gloworm retrofit that makes her tier 1 or something with raming power alone. And add a helmet to the art. That would be hillarious xD
Started out a month or two ago, but I have Glowworm at lv 99 now cus she happened to be one of the earliest ones I got for HMS. I pair her with Illustrious to ram on mini boss or even bosses (ocassionally) with face torping cus it's fun haha.
Nice review Hawk, said pretty much everything to be said about Glowworm. Looking forward to Tinykaze and Repulse's reviews.
Also as a sidenote, I'm glad you included Javelin when comparing Glowworm to the starter destroyers. A lot of people look at Javelin and ignore her because the other three starters and Shigure Kai exists. But Javelin's still one of my favourite ships in the game both character wise and gameplay wise.
She actually has the highest eHP out of the starter destroyers. Sure Nimi has a higher health pool, but Javelin has only 300 HP less and has higher evasion and can boost it with Javelin Raid (although the proc chance is to be desired as with all the starter destroyer skills). Not to mention her stats can be boosted if she's sortied with QE, who herself is much more relevent because of Dido.
Sorry for rambling on, as I said before I'm looking forward to the next review. Hope you're doing well :)
I need to compare Javelin vs Cygnet. Those two seem like they'll be close rivals.
Javelin and Cygnet are fairly equal eHP wise, except Javelin is much more consistant with damage. It's fun in a PvP fleet if you want to troll the opposing person's frontline
I remember cygnet actually help frontline survival....
Though having lower hp stat arent the worst thing ever, they can get more efficiencies out of the same hp equipment, if you really want to hardcore tank with javelin just use the fastest canon in the game yeah her firepower are decent but meh its a sacrifice besides its fun using different weapon in my opinion, but meh who knows you probably know already
Yay! Repulse gets a spotlight! One of my favorites in the game, first oathed, first MLB, first above 100. Hasn't hit 120 yet, but close and I still use her despite now having much better ships at 120. Just can't let her go.

Hawk I have a 5 ship combo I wanted your thoughts on: Baltimore, Sirius, Essex, Casablanca, and Intrepid. The Aviation boost is insane: Intrepid gets 52% on odd battles and Essex can get up to 67% boost if her fighters shoot down planes. Both have higher aviation stats than Enterprise.

If you ram them with vanguard...then yes.

My rating: 10/10 Would adopt.
But with a proper build the Ramming Fleet can beat 13-4 and almost all event bosses, except for Essex (There is a video of the Ramming Fleet dealing 400k damage to the 2nd stage Essex, and that is with Essex immune to ramming damage the first 30 seconds).
gloworm retrofit: get a ramming speed buff, also increases damage multiplier with speed factored in.
for the summer invite what ship would be good?
Go for a character you don't have.
If you have them all, then pick one that isn't fully limit broken.
After that, I dunno...pick the waifu out of them.

meteor skill ramming damage plus arashio skill mitigates some ramming damage plus charles speed skill to close the distance perfect combination now we have the tru starter squad tbh i use dis setup for my meme fleet also add boilers and beaver badge on them so we can see high speed close quarter combats😂
Illustrious' and Jeanne d'Arc's skill would help Glowworm stay alive due to the negates all forms of damage shield
Most of these kind of girls you need to keep safe from Ark Royal.
But you need to keep Ark Royal safe from this one's headbutts.
The only reason to take her is if you play on AUTO. For some reason on auto most of the times your vanagard are going to be ramming. I cant even count the times my vangard lost 1/3 of their HP on the first battle just because they rammed everything that moves.
Cuz they move in pattern it not like they made ai to dodge or anything....wow imagining that....meh no javelin stop shooting torpedo into the corner screen
I think her ramming skill decreases the damage from suicide boats, which could be an interesting niche..
