    This film doesn't really appeal to me anyway as I'm not a fan of Amy Schumer, but it seems quite a contradictory message when it's meant to be about loving yourself, but we're supposed to laugh at the idea that she thinks she's beautiful.

      @PauLtus_B 6 лет назад +3

      That really bothers me.
      She really doesn't look horrible by any standard.
      There's probably a whole lot of people who do find her beautiful.

      I think the funny thing is more like her just acting *extremely* confident to the point where it's ridiculous. But you make a good point.

      To be fair, she has a body that looks quite fugly when overweight. Some people just don't put on weight as nicely as others, kind of like how Rosie O'Donnell or Amy Schumer look bloated-ish while Rebel Wilson looks puffy in a cute way. Amy does not look horrible but her overweight look is very at odds with modern beauty standards, although she carries herself very well, to her credit.

      @@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 I don't think her body is fugly and it's quite a cruel thing to say. We shouldn't judge other people's bodies this way.

    'It just missed the Mark'.
    That (unconscious) pun suggests he was rewriting the script's jokes in his head.

    I want to address something that I think a lot of people are misunderstanding about this film; the main character hits her head and sees somebody beautiful in the mirror instead of the reflection, but the audience never see what she sees; we just see that she feels beautiful and behaves as though she is. The idea that she sees “size zero” is coming from the audience members own projection of what they associate supermodels and beauty with. Yes she mentions having seeing her abs and that her legs look great but she describes herself as “beautiful” not thin, skinny, smaller etc. Amy Schumer did an incredible interview with Oprah recently where she really talked about this. It’s not about weight, it’s not about body shaming, it’s not about her being white or able bodied or any of the other nonsense that people are throwing at this film. This is a woman who is showing that it’s about confidence being something that comes from within, and you get to decide how people treat you by the way you treat yourself.
    And Amy Schumer is beautiful and the comedy isn’t from the fact that we laugh at her because it’s ridiculous that she could possibly believe she is gorgeous, it’s the situations that occur that are funny, the dialogue and because we don’t often see women being allowed to celebrate their bodies if they aren’t stick thin or perfectly proportioned. Her body isn’t unusual in the real world, but it is on a movie screen, and it’s an important step towards the world seeing and celebrating ALL bodies.
    That’s my two cents anyway.

    Mark,
    Rather than "Big," I thought the film was more eminiscent of "Shallow Hal," which went over the same themes but was a better film.

    • @purifiedgold
      @purifiedgold 3 года назад

      Yeah it's more familiar with shallow Hal..

    • @rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266
      @rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 2 года назад

      Yep, it is more similar with Shallow Hal, but the end here is more subjective so this film ends feeling more shallow than fulfilling, unlike Shallow Hal, that might have a cliché ending, but makes it work to put across its body-positivity message.

    Funny Mark mentions it feeling shallow at the end there, when some were describing the plot as a reverse Shallow Hal.

    I did enjoy the film, I think I know what Mark is getting at however I am inclined to disagree. I did come out of the film feeling good about the story and it did uplift me.

    Oh boy... the new self indulgent Amy Schumer film!!!
    No thanks I'll pass.
    The thing about Amy Schumer is that she looks pretty normal like most woman of her age but feels she's this beautiful funny comedian that jokes about stuff that matter ( mainly stinky VG and how Trump sucks) and when people don't laugh at her jokes she feels they hate her because she's a woman.
    She constantly bodyslams people and when they return the joke she acts like a victim...
    So I have to say that this film like TrainWreck or any other of her films is ultimately a study in the mind of Amy Schumer made for her self indulgence to show how public opinion is treating her and how she feels should be treated

    Wait I don't get it... is this trying to be body positive? cause it sounds like the whole joke is that Amy is ridiculous for assuming she is beautiful? Maybe if she was actually funny the message would make more sense

    Why do people downvote videos like this? Is it because they don't like the movie or do they disagree with the review? Doesn't make sense to downvote either way.

    I just watched this film, it didn't have one laugh, not one!
    Unlike Mark, I don't think she's funny but he's right by saying she looks great, well not great but nowhere near bad enough for the character she's playing.

    I think Amy Schumer can be funny too...but this really wasn't an example of it. It's just what you said, lazy, shallow, and ironically a limited joke that would have worked as a sketch stretched far too thin for a full movie runtime.

      well it's ripping off "Big" and "shallow hal" But the problem is that those are just better movies so it gets compared to them and then you realize how basic the film is.
