For all your questions I recommend watching the promo video the NRL made called “Russell Crowe explains Rugby League for Vegas” which explains the rules of the game very well.
5:14 if you kick during game play inside your own 40m line and it bounces in the field of play and rolls into touch inside the oppositions 20m line, you get the ball back. It's called a 40/20. That's what Nathan Cleary, the Panthers No.7 did.
@nyc_ed Thanks for the shoutout mate. My name is Charles Raka and I'm from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 . Rugby League is like a religion here. We follow the NRL (which is played in Australia) as if played in our own country 😁
With the kick at 5:35, because he kicked the ball from inside his teams 40m line & found touch in the oppositions 20m line, the panthers got the ball back, its called a 40/20
3:50 the season starts in march and ends in september. So 27 rounds/weeks and then 4 weeks for the Finals. Theres 17 teams and currently on round 21 this week
Thank you so much for your interest in our sport. I know I’ve posted a couple of times now, but please know the difference between rugby and what you are watching. this is NRL rugby LEAGUE.
😊That's rugby league not rugby two different but similar games rugby is international league is only played by Australia,New Zealand, Great Britain,Tonga,Samoa and Papua New Guinea
In the mid 70s an American running back called Manfred Moore came from the NFL to the Australian NSWRL (the precursor to the NRL) and played for the Newtown Jets. He played 4 games in the top grade scoring the clubs first try of the season he was later dropped to reserve grade where he suffered a head injury and returned back to the NFL. Like the big rugby forwards the big boys in the NFL would struggle with the speed and stamina that is required to keep up with play in the NRL.All positions are required to be able to attack and defend on every play and there is no hiding in order to get your breath back.. NFL players could do it because they are already top class athletes but its a different set of fitness requirements they would need to play in the NRL they would have to work on things like their body shape and their levels of endurance. Tongan born Australian Jordan Mailata is currently playing offensive tackle with the Philadelphia Eagles he went from playing rugby league for the South Sydney Rabbitohs under 20s to the NFL. The NRL is a 17 tream Australian national rugby league competition with 16 Australian teams and one from New Zealand it is about to expand and the competition hopes to eventually reach 20 teams maybe and that may include a team representing Papua New Guinea. Check out Russel Crowes video explaining the rules of tRugby league to Americans prior to the double header they played in Las Vegas in March.
@@HannibalLekta-qg2ip I havent heard anything about the Jets but the Bears are talking about relocating to Perth. Papua if selected playing some of their games in Cairns also there is a push for a 2nd NZ team probably based on the South Island. Nothing official yet from the NRL.
@@Davo-i1s Cheers mate, yeah my best friends going nuts over the Bears lol, be good if Papua can get in, as for a second NZ I don't think it's a good idea, our domestic comp sucks & there's not enough people playing, a lot of kids are but then they switch over to Union by the time they reach high school cause the powers that be want them to play Union make pros & go further
When you play your whole life performing one discipline only, it would be too big an ask to quickly transition into the NRL. Endurance and multi skilling would have to improve significantly. Rugby Union being much slower, would be easier for NFL players to adjust to.
If you kick from within 40m of your own inzone, and it's goes out of bounds 20m from the opponents inzone, your team gets the ball back. It's a positional play and the defending team has a responsibility to stop the ball from going out of bounds. It's a lot harder to pull off then it looks because it requires a powerful and accurate kick.
Hey man the play where he kicked it out of the field is called a 40 20, if you can kick the ball from inside your 40 meters and it goes out of play inside the 20 meter, you get the ball back where it went out
@@nyc_edd pretty hard to do too, if you get it wrong and goes out on the full the other team gets the ball from where the kicker kicked it. high risk high reward.
Season is 27 rounds long with a month of finals then the Grand Final. Mid season is a three game State Of Origin series featuring the best players from Queensland and New South Wales. 2025 season kicks off March next year in Las Vegas.
You need to watch the full games, first one is the last game of the weekend ôn the 4th of the august 2024 Canberra vs Canterbury. I'm a Canberra supporter, but Stephen Crichton who played in this GF for Penrith, scored two tries by himself for Canterbury.
this comeback was no fluke, check out panthers vs dolphins round 20 2024 and panthers vs eels round 24 2024, the panthers have been the best team in the competition for the last 4 years, they have played in 4 grand finals in a row, won the last 3 in a row and currently sitting second on the ladder and will be in 1st again when the beat the storm next week
5:28 is a successful forty twenty kick. If the attacking team kicks the ball from inside their 40 meter line & the ball finds the sideline beyond the opposing team's 20 meter line the attacking team is rewarded with another possession as long as the ball isn't kicked out on the full. A possession consists of 6 tackles.(Similar to downs NFL wise.) So on the 5th tackle attacking team's more than likely opt to kick Similar to a NFL 4th down.
If you kick what’s called a “40-20” it’s when you are at your 40 on your side, and kick it all the way to the 20 on the other side with it going out touching the ground before going out. You get the ball back when you do this.
I'm sure a lot of people have said the same but this is not Rugby this is League and they are different enough to be considered separate sports. League is a much smaller game internationally and is only played seriously in England, Australia, PNG and to a lesser extent NZ
The 40-20 can be a confusing rule for newbies. Normally, when a player kicks the ball down field and it rolls into touch (goes out) the opposition get possession of the ball for the next play. But if the kicker is behind his own 40 metre line and he can kick it so it rolls into touch after the 20 metre line, the kicking team retains possession and mean they go into attack.
Some major television network over there should pick up broadcasting rights to the USARL (your Rugby League comp) & the MLR (your Rugby Union comp) that have been running for a few years now & help give both codes a little more exposure & help both codes grow over there
Whilst the object of rugby league and the NFL is the same, (scoring touchdowns playing offense and defence) the aerobic fitness required by the constant dynamic of NRL is practically unique and world sport. Don’t forget each player does offence and defence and many are required to kick and catch as well. Additionally, there are no blockers. you make your own breaks. There is no time for rest, each down or tackle requires the defence to retire 10 yards and then get straight back into the action for the next down or tackle. You won’t see too many 300 pounders. Although there are some gigantic specimens who have this incredible aerobic fitness.
2:07 I reckhon like fast NFL players might be well on the wing of the FEILD, and the big boys good in the forward pack. (The middle). Also I reckhon some nfl players would suit nrl perfectly but some not so perfect. (Sorry if it doesn’t make sense lol).
@@nyc_eddalso this is a bit irrelevant, but you should also watch like videos of “Josh addo car” and “hamiso tabaui Fidow” and “Jason Saab” or you could watch like top 10 fastest nrl players, they are fast reaching over 38 kph!
NFL players would need to get much fitter. As Rugby League and Rugby Union are non-stop for 40 minutes, then a short half time break, then its the 2nd half! Another 40 mins. All Rugby players play both offence and defence. The action is continuous. Unlike NFL which is mainly breaks.
There are 17 teams with a few more being introduced soon if the ball touches the tryline it counts as a try and if a decent NFL player had a couple years to train and learn the game he would be very effective
Sorry for making you read so many comments, but if you watch rugby league, the best teams in 2024 are: storm, roosters, panthers, sharks, cowboys and a few more, but I go for the raiders and they are decently good.
An NFL player could probably transition pretty quickly into the NRL because the skill set is pretty similar, I think the biggest thing they would have to get used to is the fitness and stamina needed to play nonstop.
NFL players would be good and I hope to see talent come out of the US and find a place to get paid in AUS but their cardio would be an issue to begin with but they're athletes they would train and overcome that
Can you react to Greg ingles, one of the most known if not best player to ever play rugby league, I think you should react to him and Shaun Johnson when you can
How good would a NFL player be in NRL? It depends. The player would habe to do a LOT of cardio (non stop play and no time outs), the player would habe to play both offence and defence. Well it depends on which NFL players you think he can play better because in rugby all players plays offense and defense and also there's no time outs and no pads Soo you have to know how to kick get hit full on 80min getting tuckle and many more
Btw trust me on this if you get a rugby player and put him in a NFL game first thing the rugby player would do is too get a good hit or a ran over by another player just too get his mind in the game but the time outs and the commercial breaks will make him get tired of playing 😂😂😂
A player called Silas Redd came over s few years ago to play for Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup. In his first game, a pre season trial, he threw up at half time from exhaustion. He didn't play any Q Cup games, but i think he played some in the grade below that.
An NFL player would not last in Rugby League or Rugby Union, League has gotten wayyyyyy faster over the last 15-20 years, an NFL player might have done okay back then, but the game speed is too fast now and they would get puffed too quick being bigger in weight. Union is different and is more physical but has periods of very slow play so you can run bigger guys in Union.
