I started loving 40k back when dawn of war came out in 2004. The thing i loved most about it was the tactical marine unit. Never before in an rts game have i seen a unit so versatile and durable. For the first time ever i felt like i was commanding real warriors that need to manuever, field versatile weaponry and use whatever weapons they have at their disposal. For the first time an rts game felt and looked like a real battlefield thanks to these "simple" units. Playing them was simply one of the best eperiences in gaming ever.
Baldimort, I feel the same about the foot-sloggers. The big, showy artillery guns and hero set-pieces are nice, but it is, and always will be, the grunt that wins the battle.
Man, honestly, even ignoring the perfect reading voice for 40k, the way you describe and the passion you show, you have an amazing ability to take things that most people aren't too fond of (Tactical Marines, Ultramarines, Black Legion, Tau, etc) and really give them their fair shot. The short stories at the beginning really help as well. (Sidenote: The Longest Second...Got me. Listening to all 3 Dorn videos *knowing* how it's going to end is heartwrenching.)
Brother Baldermort - Thank you again. Another rough night/day made easier by the comfort of your words. Treated myself with some comfort food for the stomach and this video as comfort food for the soul and I am doing so much better for having both.

"The real drama resides in the foot troop...the dice, the movement and the simple the chance that one brave man or one small squad of men can turn the tide of a battle, change the outcome of a war. And so many times, it has always been the tacticals." Beautiful work as always, Baldermort ^_^
Week in week out, Baldermort, you keep raising the bar higher with the amazing written short story. Your ability to narrate these stories are what make them special (I do love this piece of music so much emotion esp paired with your narration). Please keep up the amazing work
Man, Baldy, you have some mad storyteller skills. From a guy who says he doesn't know much about the lore, you're filling books out about it and make it look easy. Definitely a gift.
Bit of a nostalgic one 😪 I got into the hobby during RT and I don't think I've heard it put so eloquently, why some older fans have that point of view on Primaris. I'm guard, (or originally Imperial Army) and soo many of my favourite units have disappeared or been replaced. But, that's part of the hobby too. I may not like the fluff around new marines, but the models themselves are a treat to paint. And I'll never get rid of my 3rd company Blood Angel's tactical marines. Thank you for another great one Baldy
Sir, It is truly a joy to listen to your stories every chance I get. Your delivery is spot on. The drama and suspense you add to these short stories is nothing less than spectacular. I have a short story to tell you in fact. Just the other day I was listening to you tell me of Rogal Dorn. I was painting my new Pteraxii models. My wife entered the room and says. "When did you start listening to novels?" I just chuckled and carried on about my painting. I know you are humble. But you truly are a gem. Thank you from the US.
The dedication and love you put into each video is clear every time you put out a vid! You've taken my interest in Warhammer and turned it into a passion!
I may be a lowly Guard commander, but I share your love of the simple foot soldier. Nameless, heralded by few, yet critical in every war in history, and will be critical in every war to come. One memory came to mind, years ago, but I think it exemplifies your video. I was in a game against an Ork player, mostly mobs, but equipped with a Battlewagon and a few other vehicles. The Battlewagon was absorbing enormous amounts of fire as it drove towards my line, tanks and lascannons scored hits, but the monster kept charging. All too suddenly, it was upon the infantry squads manning the gun line and charged one of the squads with its giant spiked roller. All but one of the men dodged the metal monster's path, that one soldier stood his ground, melta in hand and faced the goliath. With his one shot, the dice rolled perfectly, the melta penetrating the vehicle's thick hide, and they rolled perfectly yet again, causing the battlewagon to detonate, destroying the Ork player's centerpiece and killing much of the mob that rode it into battle. I do not remember the outcome of that battle, yet I remember in vivid detail that one soldier's stand against the battlewagon and how against all odds, he prevailed.
My favorite part of creating a new Space Marine army was always thinking of the lore of the squads. Captains, Chaplains - those are epic and legendary, but are too easy as they always end in triumph. The squads though. They can lose. They can be forced to retreat, to lose half their number, to have a single survivor, and yet they still fight on as both the tabletop and lore backbone of the companies. I'm of the old guard and my days at the razor edge of tournament armies are behind me. I'm here to have fun and help other players better themselves. As such my Marine armies will always include at least one Tactical squad in a rhino. Also Baldermort take your time on videos brother. Part of genuinely enjoying a creator's work is not voraciously wanting more, but knowing they're people too and life still exists for them.

"No matter what you do today, do try to make some time for fun" - My favourite part of any video. I only hope that you have as much fun making these videos as we have listening to them. Cheers to you, Baldermort!
In the PS3 game W40K Space Marine, if you wanted to survive the 4th phases 4 waves of Orks to face Chaos in the 5th and last wave, the Tactical Marine was the only choice, you could use any other unit against the Orks but when chaos warped in, you needed choices and nothing offered more than the Swiss Army knife that is the Tactical Marine. I do so miss that game mode Exterminatus, what fun us brothers had. Keep up the great work sir ❤️👍
I remember a scene exactly as you described when I visited a Games Workshop years back: a Chaos Dreadnought had mulched his way through a unit of Tactical Marines, and the last one standing played the hero. "I think I got this one. Do you have anything that can penetrate?" "A melta bomb." "A melta bomb?" "A melta bomb." The madlad of a marine blew up that Dreadnought in what epitomizes the "Swiss army knife" mentality of the Tacticals and that heroic stand of the footslogger.
Thanks boss. Desperately torturing to get ahead. So I can enjoy some of your content. It’s pretty bloody amazing. Do a shout out soon boss. Remind me? Hope you get some sleep soon boss :)
I began in the hobby recently. And I have both first born and primaris Marines. As a mere neophyte that walks under the shadow of veterans, I can say that I like them both.
Your videos and this franchise are what have reignited a flame of love for science fiction and/or fantasy for me. I mainly play destiny but the game and lore have me so enthralled that it's hard to to put down after five years playing. I'm a newcomer to 40k but has that same grip that destiny has for me at least lore wise(I don't need to make more bad life decisions by getting into the tabletop unfortunately)and will buy books physical or audio ( ADHD sucks) to a franchise so interesting.
i havent heard anything so glorious in a while until i heard this intro story. a man needs this fulfillment, this chase for glory, a rite of passage that joins men into brothers.
I absolutely love your voice it makes for some awesome painting sessions keep up the great work. I hope you will make a good old long video about commander farsight.
Another outstanding bit of Fun Brother Baldy. That started with a very important, "Moral of the story". Hard work and Dedication are how you achieve your goals. For even being one of these unparalleled warriors doesn't mean you will simply be handed what you desire. It must be fought for and earned. There are no short cuts or privileges that guarantee success...
Dammit!! Getting a bit emotional here. Like yourself Baldemort, I've been knocking about since Rogue Trader (my brother brought it home about1988; it astounded me) and yes, I remember that box of silly little marines: we got them too. Still have a few painted in space wolf grey while my brother painted his in ultramarine blue. Ah memories...
Thank you for acknowledging the older players and our pining for the old ways. I am silently mourning the passing of the original marines. It’s hard for old purists like us. I’m not bitter, I’m just sad 🤷🏻♂️
The ending was so heart wrenching! There may be heroes and champions that take the glory, but never forget those who cleared the path so they could rise!
This is my favourite of your short stories since the one when the sole marine charged the C18th army to avoid any needless deaths :) Never stop doing what you do so well! :)

Tactical Marines and their Primaris brothers are my favorite type of marine. And the first Space Marines I ever got. I am finally getting around to painting my Tactical today ironically. Perfect timing with the video Baldermort!
I dont know how you do it, even after all this time, i was moved to tears by this vid. The little story , and seeing in my mind the looks on those two Arogent Recrutes when the lesser Marine was chosen to Asend. Even more Hartfeelt emotians when they reunite 2 years later as they meet again. Thank you Baldermort for you Epic work in these Vids we all have come to love so mutch, and as always, your Perfect tone and Voice that was BORN to tell the storys of the GrimDark Future of 40k.
I think the tactical marine is the best unit since they represent their chapter, not just with their colours but their unique aesthetics. Dark angels with their shadowy hoods Blood Angels with the winged blood drop on their chest instead of the imperial equila Crimson fists with their dark blue armour and bright crimson gauntlets Or the humble covus pattern "beaky" helmet of the Raven guard And the ancient roman armour style of the Ultramarines
I've got to admit,, I found myself ,, sweating from my eyes (def NOT tears) at the ascension of Brother Marine Gaius to the 5th company ,,,Very moving dear Baldermort

Tactical Marine:"w... Wait, what if, and here listen, it's like, a good idea, what if we, instead of charging head first, we attack from behind? Cool stuff, eh? Now, FOR THE EMPRAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *attacks the enemy from behind, sneakily*"
So Raven Guard basically?
Every time man you're stories give me shivers. Keep it going dude.
Thanks brother Hagans. :).
"No matter what you do today, do try to make some time for fun" - My favourite part of any video.
I only hope that you have as much fun making these videos as we have listening to them.
Cheers to you, Baldermort!
I always love your videos the stories especially keep doin what your doing baldermort
Do you have anything that can penetrate?"
"A melta bomb."
"A melta bomb?"
"A melta bomb."
The madlad of a marine blew up that Dreadnought in what epitomizes the "Swiss army knife" mentality of the Tacticals and that heroic stand of the footslogger.
It’s these moments that make me live tacticals more. Never ever underestimate them. :).
Your pieces always move me... Your talent, passion and creativity represents the best of the hobby. I'm so glad to share it with you!
Just another fan brother. Thank you. :) :).
Sergeant Tarkus approves of this video!
Thanks brother Tinsley. :)
You’re welcome brother Baldermort :)
Awesome work as usual mate!
Thanks boss. Desperately torturing to get ahead. So I can enjoy some of your content. It’s pretty bloody amazing. Do a shout out soon boss. Remind me?
Hope you get some sleep soon boss :)
Sniff..."I'm not crying Heretic, You Are!" That was awesome and very moving:)
Thanks, as always, brother Sulea. :) :)
Few things are better than to get a box of tactical Marines and enjoy putting them together, priming them, and painting them!😍
Aye. The endless choices over weaponry. Love them sooo much. :)
Your stories always move something inside me. That sense of glory and pride that seems so alien to the real life.
Thank you as always brother!
it really is alien, pride and glory, that feeing of fulfilment
Still trying my best. Left out the quote. Sorry brother. But I will try to do better. :)
@@baldermort you have nothing to apologise for! To humble of a man ;D
This melodie at the beginnig so abslutely, amazingly epic! I love it as i love your work dear sir. Thank you very much again!
That story was beautiful. You have such a talent for this.
That introduction was truly inspiring. Very well done sir.
I began in the hobby recently. And I have both first born and primaris Marines. As a mere neophyte that walks under the shadow of veterans, I can say that I like them both.
You are an equal fan to anyone. Anyone. Good. Both are amazing. :) :).
9:35 that was the most motivating and thought provoking quote i have ever heard, that it brought a tear to my eye.
Awesome video. Love hearing your passion about 40k and what it felt like “back in the day”
i havent heard anything so glorious in a while until i heard this intro story. a man needs this fulfillment, this chase for glory, a rite of passage that joins men into brothers.
Yep. IMHO we’ve lost something in not having some of the ‘rites of passage’. A lot.
That tale... I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING
I absolutely love your voice it makes for some awesome painting sessions keep up the great work. I hope you will make a good old long video about commander farsight.
you cant imagine how much this univers this story mean to me ... to us .... to all of us.... for the emperor!,,,,
The Emperor's finest
Lol like the name bro.
Thanks brother Burn. :) :)
Aye. I still have Wimbles in both my BA and CF forces. Love them. :) :)
I am actually weeping, thank you sir.
That first eight minutes of storytelling had some intense emotions noodling around inside of it. Spectacular.
Thank you brother Lewis. :)
Baldermort, if you start selling T-shirts, make one that just says: "END. QUOTE."
I’ll bear that in kind brother. :).
Thank you for acknowledging the older players and our pining for the old ways. I am silently mourning the passing of the original marines. It’s hard for old purists like us. I’m not bitter, I’m just sad 🤷🏻♂️
Amazing video, you are by far my favorite 40k content creator!
Thanks brother Mello. ;) :)
To quote, END QUOTE. Looking forward to your holy bolter coverage, Baldermort.
Sorry. Left out the quote. But tired. Sorry. :(
The ending was so heart wrenching! There may be heroes and champions that take the glory, but never forget those who cleared the path so they could rise!
I agree... A space marine holding a bolter is basically a mini-tank with better maneuverability... as far as real life is concerned... I love it
Cheered me up seeing this thanks brother
Thanks brother Wolfley. :) :) ;)
This is my favourite of your short stories since the one when the sole marine charged the C18th army to avoid any needless deaths :) Never stop doing what you do so well! :)
Always great when a Baldermort video drops!! Started listening in march this year while in lockdown (i think im almost caught up on all of them😂😂)... your videos kept me great company while ploughing fields 👍👍regards from South Africa
Oh, thank you brother Philippe. I hope the time flies. Glad to have helped even a tiny bit. :).
Tactical Marines and their Primaris brothers are my favorite type of marine. And the first Space Marines I ever got. I am finally getting around to painting my Tactical today ironically. Perfect timing with the video Baldermort!
I hope you enjoy every last second of the process brother Bohdan. :).
Baldermort's Guide to Warhammer I also worked on their Rhino too, very happy with the results!
Based Gaius. There are the champions and then there are the pillars like Gaius that they stand on.
I really like it when you talk about how warhammer makes you feel.
Thanks brother. It’s always a bit odd to do actually. :).
@@baldermort Yeah I understand but its always nice to see how passionate you are about the hobby!
I think the tactical marine is the best unit since they represent their chapter, not just with their colours but their unique aesthetics.
Dark angels with their shadowy hoods
Blood Angels with the winged blood drop on their chest instead of the imperial equila
Crimson fists with their dark blue armour and bright crimson gauntlets
Or the humble covus pattern "beaky" helmet of the Raven guard
And the ancient roman armour style of the Ultramarines
They do put the Character into each chapter
*salutes in Dante*
Glorious work brother Baldermort many thanks yet again :)
Ah that send chills down my spine. You did it again.
Loved this my friend! Great work !!!
Thanks brother Moment. :)
That was a heart warming story in the beginning
It really bares mentioning more often, the music choice for these videos is always fantastic!
I almost teared up at the end there.
I love my tactical squads, and I’ll run them until till I can’t roll dice anymore. Brilliant content good sir.
Darn straight. :) :)
I've got to admit,, I found myself ,, sweating from my eyes (def NOT tears) at the ascension of Brother Marine Gaius to the 5th company ,,,Very moving dear Baldermort
Thank you brother O’Czernobog. Trying my best. Sorry about the quote error. But tired. My deepest apologies.
long live the tactical squad! Ave Imperator! They shall never be forgotten!
