I will never forget the countless visits to RadioShack with dad to pay his phone bill. I remember seeing the, “contractor,” flip phone it was supposed to be super durable, and had a case like those rhino painted pickup trucks 😅 I couldn’t understand why dad didn’t just get one of those because he stayed breaking his phones and we stayed at the RadioShack 😂
literally! hahahahaha radio shack for sure got their fair share of money from us!
Did you ever see the brick phone. Yup, he had one.
Yesterday when I was cleaning up the storage room, I found an old RadioShack TC. I wanted to use it to play games. Maybe it was left there for too long, but unfortunately it is no longer usable. I saw this video today. Thank you for the introduction.
glad you liked the video!
I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of the Radioshack boom. It was the place to go for buying anything tech/electronic. The stores were fairly small but I loved them so much I could spend hours there. Nothing was cooler than building your own radio and making that first conversation with another enthusiast miles away. This is a stellar video and I have learned a lot about how Tandy developed radio shack. I actually own an old Radioshack Tandy TRS-80 computer. Works like a dream.
Thats an amazing story I appreciate you sharing!
genuinely had no idea how old RadioShack was! definitely wasn't expecting to hear it was in the 1930s! this was personally really intriguing to learn about because my grandpa was an expert in building his own radios and maintaining professional scale systems, which inspired my dad's lifelong love of amateur/HAM radios. I'm a total newb, so I'm not exactly sure what specific type of equipment my grandpa was working with, but definitely ones capable of large scale communications, as he was the manager (and quite literally the only person in his department) for radio systems maintenance and repairs for a police department in Michigan after coming back from serving in WWII, so in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s. I bet he was a pretty frequent customer of their distribution parts in the early days :) very cool to learn about how innovative it was for RadioShack to make communications equipment much more accessible to businesses and the general public at large - it's easy to forget how groundbreaking it was to have such ease in being able to directly contact/purchase from manufacturers through an all-inclusive catalogue, especially in today's world when everything is pretty much accessible with just a few clicks. thanks for sharing!
Man what a story! That's actually really cool that you are able to connect your families history with this business! Even though RadioShack is not really a thing anymore, I think its safe to say that RadioShack walked so all of these other big tech companies could run!
Whoa, this video clarified a lot about what transpired with RadioShack. That kind of hardship for such a well-known brand is heartbreaking. I grew up with RadioShack, thus it played a huge role in my technological development. I appreciate you bringing back those lovely memories. I appreciate the introduction.
RadioShack was a really important part for my tech journey, I grew up with it. Thanks for reminding me of those beautiful days.
glad you liked the video!
RadioShack brings back so much nostalgia. I remember going there to buy my first microphone. This was such a good balance of fun/engaging and educational content.
Glad you liked it!
Radio Shack was a significant part of my tech journey
Wow, this video really shed some light on what happened to RadioShack. It's sad to see such an iconic brand struggle like that. Thanks for the insight!
Glad you liked it!
I've been curious about what happened with them. I had a slight idea, but I learned a lot from this video about the company in general. You did a great job putting it all together. I'm looking forward to the next video! 👍👍
Glad you liked it!
I remember going into RadioShack for my first headphones for my phone, never really knew what happened to them so this showed some light on this.
Same!
I remember going to RadioShack Store with my grandpa to get one of those CB radio , I used to listen their conversations a lot and it used to be so much fun. I had no idea the company have such a interesting history. Thanks for creating such informational video.
Welcome! Glad you liked it!
Wow! what a fascinating story of success and failure. This video gives details of good and bad of the journey of RadioShack. It is an interesting thing to see how far RadioShack had evolved over the year, but very painful to see the company go bankrupt. Very unfortunate.
Right!
You checked the way back machine...😂😂😂
Fascinating dive into a name I haven't heard of in ages. It was really cool to learn how their history goes back to over a century ago! Just goes to show how fast technology has expanded in recent decades and how not being able to keep up, leadership and financial mismanagement can topple a household name so quickly.
Right!
This is so well put together! I had no idea thats how Radio shack got started. I love seeing the history of businesses.
I subbed btw! Looking forward to future content
Thank you! Any other video ideas you want to see?
If its rise and fall. Then yeee! @letstalkbusinessYT
Blockbuster
Toys r us
Kodak
Sears (I heard they used to sell homes)
If its general upcoming businesses. Love to hear
Apple
Amazon
Coke
Microsoft
Sounds good! that and or different products is something I want to cover. I was thinking about covering the story of the Beanie Babies, or Googles DeepMind. (They are very far off from each other in terms of industry but both had/or will have a big impact on society in their own ways)
This is a surprisingly high quality video. Well done.
Wow, thanks!
wow, the algorithm hit me with this and i was watching a big youtuber, radio shack was my introduction into electronics and its very nostalgic as i used to watch `make` and kipkay, benheck etc when i was younger and wanted the to make his `make` partnered diy kits that used to be sold there, i then went on to make stuff with Arduinos (purchased at radioshack) and eventually i got more broader programming. Now im in college for cyber security and digital forensics. so in the way, RadioShack is responsible for my passion in electronics and computers. good work on the quality of this video!
btw, liked and subbed
Wow thats actually a really cool progression! Just wondering how do you like cyber security so far?
@@LetsTalkBusinessYT pretty decent actually, learning alot of cool shit to find vulns already found 2 in windows regarding full uac bypass @ the nt/system level
I have not idea what that means haha, but it sounds like you know what you are doing!
Loved the post-mortem at the end.
Thanks!
The Geek Squad started in the 1990s as an independent computer repair service compsny in Minnesota before Best Buy, a formidable Radio Shack competitor, acquired the Geek Squad in a 2002 company merger.
Wow, this video really shed some light on what happened to RadioShack. I remember going into RadioShack for my first headphones for my phone.so Radioshak was a important part of my life.
Miss the old days of going into a radioshack with the family
The good ol' days!
i always think about RadioShack and what ever happen to it. this video explains what happened with them very well
Glad you liked it!
our local radioshacks here in Lithuania switched to selling raspberry Pis, ESP32 and various addons like that, they are doing quite well.
Do you still have some open over there?
@@LetsTalkBusinessYT yes, we have a few. Physical chops where you can buy transistors, resistors, diodes etc.
Thats amazing! I know there are still a handful of them open around the world, cool to know one of them is in Lithuania!
Super high quality video!!!! U should have 100k subs 🎉
Maybe one day!
I used to shop at Radio Shack. It was one of the biggest go to places for technology. In the early, 2000s I liked that they sold all the cords and wires you need from audio cables to ethernet cords, but the video is correct about the brand becoming outdated.
Right! I used to go there all the time. By the time I was older though it was already on its way out
RadioShack was a dedicated company that led the journey. Your video was real informative thanks appraise very much.
Glad you liked it!
Radio Shack, a relic of my tech journey. Walking into those stores felt like entering a realm of endless possibilities. The shelves stocked with electronic components, the buzz of eager customers, and the helpful staff ready to assist. It was more than a store; it was a haven for innovation and exploration.
Radioshack owners were ahead of their time by marketing constantly, hiring the catalog experts etc. Even when the paper shortage was caused from the war they still establishes themselves with the paper. By RadioShack proactively putting themselves in front of customers was instrumental in keeping them afloat.
Exactly! I feel like if they would of stuck to what made them a powerhouse in the late 70's through 90's they would of weathered the storm in 2000, and continued to be a great company. However I think the passing of Charles Tandy (R.I.P.) was the real culprit to their demise. He was ahead of his time before he even bought them and was seeing the future.
Super interesting! I loved this video! You make it look very simple! It's great!....
Glad you like it! Appreciate the comment!
Crazy good vid for such a new channel!
Thank you!
I really enjoyed the video, very educational and fun to watch. Waiting for more❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh man! Great your content! I really liked it! I enjoyed it from start to finish! nothing bad to say! keep going!

WOw! love this video! Just what I was looking for, I understood everything very well! thank you!

The Rise & Fall Of RadioShack: A saga of innovation, nostalgia, and changing times
^
Radio Shack was a significant part of my tech journey, it was our happy place as kids growing up
Great video and research. I loved the way you presented the info. I do miss radioshack and what they sold.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always wonder how my local radio shack stays in business.
what area do you live in?? I haven't seen any in a longggggg time
A lot of stuff happened with RadioShack including the class action lawsuit by managers
The 1st computer class I took. 1981 on a Tandy 2000. Yup!
The first one of it's kind!
I wish radioshack bounces back and grow faster than ever!!
hopefully haha, idk if they can though
Well, talking about Radio Shack making a comeback ? Their chances are very very slim.
Always liked RadioShack, but it is obvious how businesses like that couldn't keep up as the times shift
right!
Ah yes, I dated someone who did amateur radio. They had to keep it very DL cuz it was uncensored music. Cut to now, they have fines they’re still paying and here 2 radio stations play uncensored music now. Anyway. My idea of radio shack as a kid was just for getting cellphones, but then carriers started beating them in deals, cars came with their main advertising at the time of “install satellite radio today!” And shortly after they disappeared
Right!
Radio Shack went under thanks to extremely poor management. The owners of the company had no idea what they were doing and really didn't care. What's left of Radio Shack was bought out by a company outside the U.S. . They have a website that says it's under construction and it's been that way for two years now. The chances of Radio Shack coming back are slim to none. The ONLY thing they MIGHT be able to do is hire someone that knows how to build websites to fix the sorry excuse for what they have posted at this time. But, wait another four of five years and we'll see what happens with that.
only 25 subscribers? remember me in a year
will do haha!

Basically there fall was Not keeping up with technology being online and sticking to there roots they where great at the beginning at adapting with radios, CBs and even computers I think they should had gotten into gaming they might had a shot.
^^^^ They didn't progress with their loyal customers and instead alienated themselves to the loyal ones. And then when trying to curate a new audience they failed hard.
My first encounter in RadioShack was in 2014 I needed an ethernet cable and paid 50 bucks I think. I have never been there again lol
Hey man good luck with the videos:)
Thank you! And you for sure got scammed $50 for an off brand ethernet cable, tragic 😂
@@LetsTalkBusinessYT thats exactly what happened lol.
Welp we live and we and we learn right? Haha
