My prediction is the Redback spider population will be bigger next Halloween than last. I'm seeing many areas around my home that have never had Redback nests before. I'm starting to feel helpless against the spider army who can breed up massive numbers very fast. They will take over the planet and nothing seems to stop them.

I can't even imagine the frustration and fear of knowing there are deadly spiders everywhere you look on your property. I would be terrified of my own yard. ☹️ I deal with wolf spiders in the autumn but they aren't dangerous like your wolf spiders. They are just big and breed by our swimming pool and even get in it with their backs covered in babies. It's terrible! They do have a nasty bite but it doesn't cause any problems since the venom can't hurt us

I can't help to notice the compounds on the poison you tried. Those are pyretroids -I believe that's how they are called- those are either synthetic or natural toxins found on some plants. They are absorbed by anything that has an exoskeleton and quickly paralyze the subject (As you could see with the sprayed spider). They die due to suffocation. In a really slow and painful death. But it doesn't act that fast. The thing with those compounds is they remain active several days after application killing arthropods & arachnids by just touching the sprayed surface. Hope it helps you with those venomous things!

You asked for it (Chemist in PUR-Foam) but I like a challenge in other chemicals.
-d-allethrin: Is a paralyzer for insects (works on the nervous system before they die, highly toxic for cats )
-d-phenotrin: your egg killing chemical to destroy the egg sacks.
-Tetramethrin : hyperactivates nerve cells, ultimately leading to paralysis and death
    Hope this suffices

Bug sprays literally fry the central nervous system of the organism. That is why they spasm out when sprayed, they aren’t fighting the chemical, their ability to function is being fried.

Dig holes and put the plants in the ground so the spiders don't have a place to hind underneath anything. Then once the plants are ready to be picked then get some good gloves and just pick and throw it in a tub for the food then wash it down really well with hose water then dump the spiders out.

Leo, I am from Tennessee in the USA, and I do believe that first spider you show ( behind the bricks) is a Black Widow and not a Redback. Correct me if I'm wrong. She appears to have the red hourglass on the underside of her abdomen. Black Widows are common in the USA, and I've had numerous ones over the years in and around my sheds, window crevices, under stairs, etc. I've fortunately never found one in my home....too many Brown Recluse spiders in this part of the country, and I've found too many to count inside my home over the years. Toooooo, too many....but one is too many imo. Keep up the awesome vids....I just discovered them and thoroughly enjoy watching!

Firstly: I would definitely like to see more videos on the ants, they're very interesting.
Secondly: From what I've seen in your previous videos the egg sacs generally go a darker colour than the one you found in your porch before they hatch. So perhaps the egg sac could have been an empty one? I know that some other spider species do occasionally lay empty sacs. I'm far from an expert but that's just a thought that crossed my mind.
Thirdly: Keep up the good stuff, I always enjoy your videos :)

What if you were to get a bunch of mantis eggs and hatch those suckers, then set them loose in the yard? Even if they are not that effective in controlling the spider population that is already there, I imagine it would be a good deterrent for spiders trying to make a new home in that garden. If the yard is flooded with mantis I doubt they'd want to set up there.

Hey Leokimvideo, been enjoying your videos for a while and id like to give you some information on some chemicals of the cheapest spray:
The L-ALLETHRIN is probably also an ingredient for the RAID Spray. Toxicity aside for insects it is also very high for fish, aquatic invertebrates and cats (!) as they can not detox from it. The D-PHENOTHREN is supposed to take care of fleas, ticks and lice but there have been reports of noumerous cat deaths while dogs seem to handle it better.
To humans these compounds are irritating at least and sideffects get nastier at higher exposition.
Okay, hope that helps, totally with you on preferrably not using chemicals.. keep up your great work, interesting stuff!!

could a possum be eating the plants? my dad had to cover up his plants in wire, but i dont think possums would eat leaves like that. probably a big catepillar.

Off topic but spider related. Anyway you could put a huntsmen spider in the tank?

If there is a local pet store, perhaps you could try to acquire some Skinks. My mom worked in a pet store (in the US during the 80's or 90's mind you) but they did sell them. If the cost isn't too prohibitive, might re-introducing some front line soldiers be an option? I understand the cats would be after 'em, but you never know, they could be around long enough to help thin out The Hoard! Best of luck to you Leo, God bless.

I'm sure this is a very American question, but do you ever encounter funnel web spiders on your property?

Luckily no. We are not really in their territory. There are large trapdoor spiders here but you rarely ever see them.

The only thing I can really comment on is ants knowing the weather. I think they are sensitive to air pressure and humidity (oddly enough, so are spiders and most other insects). So it is very possible they can sense subtle changes.
However the eggs... I think ants need their eggs to hatch near a plant on the surface so the newly emerged antlings (technical term, obviously) have food.

Yes, ants are very strange creatures. And they sure breed like I've never seen before. I don't even wanna know how many eggs were in that ant hill, or how many were hatched.
