Very helpful to hear this today as I try to live in a manner that honors how I have been invited to fill up the unique place in this world that is mine, always determined in the context of a dialogue with the Divine. Hard to let myself be stripped of material comfort, simplification of life is necessary for the spiritual life Solzhenitsyn speaks of.

And when people attempt to develop virtue, to become manful for ancient values, they're deemed as judgemental by those around them as if to say, *"Stop revealing to us our superficial tendencies! Stop judging! Stop being weird! Be normal!"* Normal of course is best designated by the characteristic passion of a given group's idol.
Study history all you want. Glean from its vast stores of wisdom. Herald the warnings of your ancestors long forgotten. It won't be enough to turn the hearts of those around you. Anyone can rationalize anything, so long as you know which passions assail them most. Reason itself is being undermined or hijacked to service oneself. No nobility. No remembrance of history. Nothing. Just a sea of people (nay, avatars of fallen spirits ignorant to the glorious Image resident in their hearts) swimming in the chaos of this fallen world trying to satisfy their futile passions. Were you to become a Saint, only then might you be able to influence them, but most likely you'd be martyred, sacrificed to the idols of their group's demonic god.
Lord, have mercy on us all. Cain's cities are loosing their grip.

Thank you for your comment Pano. Yes, it is hard to see much good in today's world.
Though God, values and morals have been misconstruded, in persuit of expedient pleasures and grasping to the materials of the physical world, there are still glimpses of hope and a wish for virtue, goodness and kindness to prevail in this world. It is easy to feel hopeless and pescimistic but you seem to have a good heart. Keep your heart up! 🙂

And now…..materialism seems to be a catch phrase in comparison to humanism. The right, since the individual human is above all ( even though in reality he is fallen in position, both morally and authority) to decide what/who he is in identity! What madness!

What makes you think they did it accidentally or unthinkingly? (I assume this is what you meant by "in their ignorance". Which translates into, "because of their lack of knowledge and understanding" of what he was trying to impart.
