I have used some of these supposed pc cleaner and game booster apps, they are all a con, does a scan, says there is suspect files and programs that need to be removed even when I knew there were no suspect files or programs, my advice to anyone, don't install these apps
I stopped using any of these tools back in XP days. They figure using these utils actually speed up their computer. Doing a clean install of Windows and ONLY the apps you need is the best way to clean up a system.

One of my clients clicked on something in the program and it took me two days working with a Bleeping computer malware specialist to remove a browser hijacker. Following that experience, I removed ASC from all the computers I could and never used it again. Lesson learned! Geo from the US

Without the need for additional third-party software, the tools used during Windows Automatic Maintenance can also be run manually as necessary, with limited exceptions.
Man this brings up memories of about 2006, when I was new to computers and not as mature in my computer skills, and of course I bought it thinking this was going to fix things. When I was a ITC technician back in '98, I saw a lot of this even in the early days, most people just don't want to spend much money to solve issues, either do your research & buy a new computer or pay a decent PC technician to streamline your system, most will provide this service for the price of a bit of software.✌

Great advice. I have used several "improvement" programs over the years and quite often, after using them to "clean" my PC, I find I get problems with some programs, no apparent performance boost etc. I do find that the uninstaller programs such as Revo do find lots of leftovers that Windows uninstaller leaves behind. Whether that really makes a difference I don't know. I guess making the registry database small can speed up things but I very much doubt it is measurable? 🤨

It's the same on the phone. A banner popup is saying your phone needs cleaned words to that effect. It's just an ad for their App. Once you download their App it runs pester adverts at you constantly.

HDShredder is the best software for this, and this is why you should use it for delete your files. windows file's data on the hard drive is not immediately erased, instead, the space that the file occupies on the hard drive is marked as available for use by the operating system. this means that the file's data remains on the hard drive until it is overwritten by new data. Overall, Windows does not actually delete a file when it is removed by the user, instead, it marks the file as deleted and makes its space available for use by the operating system, so it's possible to recover deleted files using specialized software that can scan the hard drive for data that has been marked as deleted but not yet overwritten.

Back in the old days (98SE) I was not so Brite and used these stupid programs which fouled my PC. Now with newer windows I have no need and learned quite a bit and still learning. I do use Norton 360 for security but I do not use all of it. I no longer allow Norton to do maintenance cleaning, too many issues. I rely mostly on windows itself because there are great features built in. Other things like certain drivers and such that Microsoft doesn't provide I will get straight from the Manufacturer. I do allow windows updates, have backups should an update go sideways, update all programs that require it and drivers. Although admittedly I do need to run backups a little more often. A plan of recovery is key should it be needed.
When I got my first PC after two years the HDD started to fail and the wife, now ex, was saying download this to fix it but I went on a website and someone said that the PC's HDD was about to fail so as the PC had a three year RTB warranty I sent it back to them and they diagnosed an imminent HDD failure and replaced the HDD, that was when 40GB was considered to be a lot of space on HDD's. Now if I run into problems I just reset the PC to factory settings and all the software I need is located on a separate HDD so I just grab it off the external drive and put a shortcut to it on the main drive.
The very best method to regain a computer's speed it to do what we call "nuke and Pave". Backup your documents and do a clean install of Windows, deleting all the partitions. Then reinstall your programs and restore your documents. This takes a lot of time but is the very best method to get a lean and clean computer like when it came out of the box.
I have been involved in computers for over 40years and am impressed by Kerish Doctor, to the point that it is the only software of its type I use. If someone can prove it is 'snake oil' then I will stop using immediately. Over to you Bri or anyone else.
I'd like to see Brian put that program to the test. "Tweaking" AIO Repair was one I raved about for years, but after one of the admins over at Malwarebytes told me how it's now doing more harm than good because it doesn't handle permissions and security correctly, I had to take a much closer look. I put it to the test and I have to agree, though I owe a lot to the developer, very nice and kind man, for some personal favors he has done for me in the past.
If you search enough, you can also find very bad reviews on Malwarebytes, people swearing that it too does more harm than good, even though I am sure that is not right - so who knows who is correct? I think that if a programme does you no harm and you are happy to take the chance + pay the money, then stick with it.
What is your opinion of Glary utilities? Both the Pro and basic version. I have been told it is the exception to the rule. Would be interested in your opinion.
I've been using a laptop here now for about six months with nothing other than windows security, zero pro blems so far (Windows 10). I totally agree with you. all this so called Pc repair stuff is just bullshit.
actually the only utilities ive used since DOS is norton utilities always loved it actually only used it till windows 98 only dont have one on win 10 here dont need actually liked there norton disk doctor and norton speed disk and norton windoctor also it was excellent

Ccleaner is okay, but do not install it. Just use the portable version and leave the registry alone. Bleachbit works very well too. Others have stated that Windows cleans up itself without 3rd party cleaners but I've found that Ccleaner or Bleachbit do a much more thorough job. I would suggest only running them once a month or so.
I used to use System Mechanic on my old Windows 10 PC. However, it didn't make it much faster. I stopped using it and many of the tools that came with System Mechanic I didn't use. WIndows 10/11 has built-in tools, so it's not necessary
Regarding driver updates. My roommate has an old laptop and he continues to use Windows 7 (I keep telling him to update it to Windows 10 but he refuses) as far as I know Windows 7 isn't receiving updates and isn't supported by Microsoft anymore so he is constantly having driver issues so he uses Driver Magician. In the case of older hardware and an older OS could he still just get the drivers from the manufacturers website?
He could try getting the manufactures drivers, no guarantee they are still available, I had windows 7 for years on an older 2013 laptop till January this year, downloaded and installed windows 10, laptop boots quicker, files open quicker and no need to spend several hours or days looking for drivers and updates.

I have had the very same issue. I only use the Intel CPU onboard graphics and have the Intel Driver Assistant running to inform me of any new updated Intel drivers for Intel hardware. Windows 10 update has reinstalled old graphics drivers many times. When the Intel Driver Assistant notifies me an available graphics driver update, I open the Windows device manager and check the date on the driver. If it is an older generic Windows driver, I just roll it back to the previous driver. You can easily find the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Windows flag and selecting it from the popup menu. It is aggravating though.

If you're running a paid version of. Windows. Then you have a Microsoft account. That will keep your drivers and your computer updated automatically. It's not wise to install software. Especially repair software.

I used IOLO for years and it did what it said on the lid. Outbyte driver update wrecked my PC. It deleted the bitlogger file or whatever it is called and Windows 11would not boot. Absolute rubbish don't buy.

The built in Windows Repair doesn't work very often, either! Best just to re-install after backing up your data.

I just use ATF cleaner. Its a tiny file that is not even installed. Good for cleaning the basic things like temp files, cookies, history etc.

Microsoft does not recommend using registry cleaners. Just leave your registry alone. Great video

i'm using Win 7 have dual boot on my laptop. Win 7 and Win 10 used Britec09's. have other desktop with XP and a version with XP Black edition
I have used a program called "Snappy Driver" on old Windows machine with very good results. Driver Magician won't find nearly as many.

Hi are this safe because theres many people say its risky because they can stole your password on google chrome and also if u already use this and u try scan using malwarebytes it will detect that outbyte is threat.
I think Malwarebytes will only detect outbyte as adware or PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program)
