I would be great if your reviews included information about how the P3 behaves on a portrait screen; e.g. what about split screen (should be over/under), Home Screen and bars. Also what about security - can user change name of Bluetooth, WiFi and device,,, and password for WiFi.
If I had access to a car with a vertical display I would. Usually CarPlay adapts well. But the Android UI is anyone’s guess. With Android Os you can usually change how the BT name and hotspot name is labelled and accessed.
Your reviews are very helpful. I have not had any one of these units that has been stable. All of them either don't connect to carplay or disconnect or reboot randomly and often. The Ottocast Picaso 2 is the worst of them. I have four cars and have gone through at least 4 different units. Hard to tell if it's the USB connection to the unit or the unit itself. Sometimes just bumping the unit causes it to disconnect and reboot or freeze. A lot of the time I have to power cycle the unit by disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable. This happens often. Still, I like the ability to instal wireless Carplay where it isn't otherwise available. Thanks for all the videos!
I can't understand how they come up with a rou d form factor! Nothing in any auto is round. Finding a place to tuck these things away is hard enough without them being round. In addition, would love videos that review these with experience instead of features and specs. Many look good and spec good but such in use. My AI box for example has to be manually reconnected to my wifi hotspot every time the car is turned off. Thats a pain.
I agree. Instead of discussing features and specs, we really need to know operation. My Carlinkit unit had to be manually reconnected to my wifi hotspot each time the car was restarted. Carlinkit support was useless unless you speak Chinese.
@bravomike09 it sounds like you have a dodgy USB port if it's being disconnected on bumping it. Try a different cable and if that is the same maybe look at replacing the port with a newer one. The current one sounds like its had it.
@jamesgerboc Noted. I do use and report on the features, but it's hard to please first-timers looking vs people who have had a few and are looking at replacements. Maybe ill focus more on this in a roundup, as the reviews can cover the features themselves, allowing me to focus on their general use/quirks

Waiting for 1 to officially launch with being able to change audio sync delay. These on the new Hondas are unusable because of the audio sync delay with the video.
Let me know when that happens. There is a slight delay in my Type R. Not super annoying but definitely there. Using the MMB Magic Box 5.0 with the snapdragon 680.
Maybe I got lucky as mine runs significantly better than my p2 and mmb max. RUclips I don't use much on it. But Netflix works flawlessly. Use it daily with zero issue. I haven't noticed much different with audio quality honestly.
The no Netflix video issue is a weird one. Works over HDMI but doesn't work on carplay displays or my VW head unit, both have a high resolution, so maybe it's that? 🤷🏻♂️ As for audio quality it was fine until I plugged the HDMI in.
@CarPlayLife I haven't had the need to use the HDMI port so i'm gonna stay clear from it hahaha. I have the stock head unit in my Hyundia Kona Ultimate 2021.
very useful video.I have one question, why i dont have the split button?i cant split the screen. Some place on your video yoy have the spilt button and sometimew you dont? Can i recall it from somewhere?i am very confuse about this.I hope to help me,thanks !!
Speaking with someone else in the comments about this makes me feel this split screen app you see isn’t included with the p3 anymore. I don’t know why. You can try buying one from the play store instead.
I ordered and was sent a P3 with the latest firmware and it is running great. No audio sync issues at all (I am super sensitive to this). They have also added OTA upgradability of the firmware which is a big plus. This is quite a nice update from my M.I.C. 665 AI box.
Can you lay out what accessories you have and how they connect for the XBOX controller to play games on the unit? Did you just download the games from the store or are you using an emulator?
It’s just a BT version of the Xbox controller and then any Google Play Store game that supports it. No additional accessories needed. If your connection is good enough you could even play Xbox games cloud on it 😑
Apart of the audio mode glitch, is there any AI box with GOOD audio quality? I’m actually using a Carlinkit AI Box (8gb+128gb) and while the lastest update fixed the audio mode bug, the audio quality itself leaves a lot to be desired. It compresses quite a lot when there’re multiple sources of audio or when highs and lows are present in a song. Doesn’t seem to be fixable as the problem probably relies on the audio IC. Wired carplay sadly is miles better
Is this from an Android app, or using it over wireless CP/AA that you hear bad audio? Nothing will beat wired tbh, as these adapters are emulating the stream + wireless audio won't be the best, and its only as good as they are transmitting it and converting to audio. Tricky to do right on a budget of these things.
Totally agree. For some reason, the adapter from carlinkit I believe is called carlinkit 5.0, which only allows wired android auto to go wireless has an amazing sound quality, but the carlikit Ai box sound is so bad. Im with you , I wouldn't mind spending more on a more quality device.
If I only want to make wired to wireless Apple car play and watch RUclips , Netflix and cast /airplay from my iOS device to the car screen, which two devices do you recommend?
It’s unlikely seeing as I heard they never have any updates for it. Saying the thought I just checked and there’s an update from April ottocast.vip/elementor-1881/ So it might be worth trying
Torn at the moment between this and the pro2. Thinking about going with the latter but you mention the P3 has ability to add xbox remote whereas the Pro2 only Bluetooth... do you have a recommendation for the best Bluetooth remote please or, for devices without touchscreen, is the P3 a better option?
p3 has its problems. I’m not sure how many updates have come out to improve the issues I faced with it. There are other options out there for adapters with Dual BT for controller/remote input.
@@CarPlayLife I bought a cheaper option, Carpuride H01, until the Pro2 arrives. I’m not satisfied with it but it seemed to work somehow. I thought the Bluetooth would boot the remote mouse/keyboard when it switched to the phone for CarPlay but somehow it worked. At this point I’m thinking my perfect option would be to switch my screen for a touchscreen option. I have a jailbroken iPhone with Carbridge which offers all of the apps I need without Android but without a touchscreen the only real option is mirroring, which seems pretty poor on most models compared to wired. Don’t suppose you know if I upgraded an A Class screen to wireless if it would retain the wired functionality please?
Just to add. I think your content is absolutely brilliant. I’d love your insight on the best way to control without touchscreen. I’ve tried a few options which have been pretty underwhelming.
Thanks for your kind comments. Much approached and inspiring. You’ll have to check on some forums or on Reddit if you can retrofit a CarPlay touch screen display. If the years aren’t so far apart it could be a possible upgrade, just as long as the cables and coding is the same and easy to apply to make it all work again. See if there are any local car installers that could advise you of your options.
What is the best CarPlay box in your opinion? I have the mmb one and it’s horrible. Takes like an hour just to download an app. Can’t split screen for some reason. Lags and freezes all the time.
Downloading speed isn’t due to the adapter it would be more to do with the internet connection you’re giving it. Check out the ApplePie Rocket for super fast performance.
Any idea if this can work with EV? The main console in EV controls the car and I wonder if the P3 will take over the console and unable to exit to main control page
Performance stays the same unless you mean internet performance which will vary based on the data connect you have on the sim. It’s mostly better going sim than using hotspot.
Your car then should have a dial or knob to control the infotainment system, this adapter would use that to interact. Otherwise you can pair a BT remote or controller in order to mimic touch input.
@@benhoughton9028 I can only guess that you would push down on the dial when selecting an app until it wiggles and then turn the dial to position it where you like on the app screen. But that is just a hunch, without experiencing it in a dial-based car I don't 100% know.
Hi. Good videos. Thank you. Looking to buy an AI box and looking for a recommendation. Main priority will be to run Apple car play wirelessly and then to run RUclips/Netflix. Thanks
Hey Thanks for review! Have you tried to insert SD card with any video files? I already tried but the device didn't see nothing on a card((( maybe you know what happens?
I’m sure I would have as that’s part of my tests. If it doesn’t show up, try accessing via the files app. Also make sure they are compatible video file formats and nothing obscure or has unsupported codecs.
Would you prefer the Ottocast p3 auto ai box or the Picasou 2 PRO CarPlay AI box? I just purchased the picasou 2 PRO and then came across the Ottocast p3. Which is the better/higher end/top of the line product?
I just ordered the p3 also… I’m now realizing the there is virtually no customer support from ottocast. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to return the Picasou 2 🤣🤣
Not really. There are some issues with its software and some functions are lost. Hopefully updates will fix these but who knows how long that will take.
Hi, is there an AI box you'd recommend where Android Auto doesn't suffer the resolution issues mentioned in this video? Also, does adjusting the resolution in developer settings sometimes resolve the problem?

Yea you can. Go into settings and there is an option to hide the bar but you need to replace it with a floating button so that you have a way to go back and home.
Hi all, I am wondering if they put in an Ottocast SIM if it can accept wireless carplay from one iPhone and simultaneously make a hotspot for two iPads to share the internet.
I just upgraded from the Picasso 2 Pro to this and so far I'm not very happy . First off does anybody know how to close apps on this thing? You used to just hold down on the back button and swipe them closed or a close all option. Now the close all option is gone and you can't even swipe them closed Also missing features would be a custom boot logo, enabling using the car gps vs the inbox gps. Also a top menu when turning off the side bar is gone. So far i feel like this is a major downgrade to the p2 pro. Anyone have any tips or fixes to this?
having issues with my p3 and they have been trying to get me to update firmware with microsd... ... attempted so many times... no luck... can't get direct answers to my questions or a video of an update working correctly... now i'm being asked to ship it back undeclared and undervalued/underinsured to receive a upgraded model in return.. grrr. FIXED NOW THOUGH... . insert sd card AFTER connection/bootup
Sorry to hear this. Did you try making sure that formatting the SD card was fat 32 and I found if you have a Mac, formatting on windows PC was more reliable. Perhaps re-download the files to make sure they aren’t corrupted. Power on the adapter without SD inserted and then insert and wait as well as trying with it in before powering on.
@@CarPlayLife yes formatted FAT32.. they gave me links to several different upgrade files.. the last one actually started the upgrade I click the box to wipe and rewrite the Flash., then pressed the upgrade button on the upgrade window and nothing happened.. there was no progress bar, no countdown.. 30 -40 minutes.. I've them asked several times but they won't tell how long it's supposed to take.. song I've attempted 10 times wasted 5-8 hours so far.. and had to buy a 32 gig SD card.. the thing is supposed to be capable of over-the-air updates but no upgrade seems to be available through Wi-Fi or cellular data..
Sounds like you have covered everything I would try. What were the issues you were trying to fix with an update? For OTA updates, they should be able to take your serial number and push an update to the device. But the only update I was able to install was via SD. Here is their guide, in case it was any different: 1.Format micro SD card into FAT32 2.Copy update.zip to the root folder of micro SD card 3.Insert the micro SD card into the AI box then power on. Tick [Wipe data and format flash], next tap update. 4.The blue and yellow lights flash alternately while updating 5.After the update is finished, the system will restart. Delete the update. zip file or remove the micro SD card. I think it was less than 30 mins to update, for sure. So something not right there if it didn't apply.
@@CarPlayLife . On my P3 not sure what the two colors lights are supposed to be. I presume you're are talking about the "lighted spokes". But for me nothing happens after I check wipe and press update.. thanks for giving me an idea of how long it should take.. I have a hybrid RAV4 so I literally have to start the car and keep it running.. which is what I've been doing but with no indicator lights that anything's happening.. I had two issues one is that the Bluetooth would garble and go super slow and low pitch... The other issue had to do with the screen showing I was in a call but being unable to clear it out hang up... After original call was ended, call timer pop-up would keep counting call time..
success.. i ignored their instructions and followed your idea to boot it up and then insert the microSD.. wan2 updates so far this way, so feeling much better now YAY! :-)
Mine does not have the split screen app and I bought it a few months ago, only recently went to start using it. Where in your list of apps is it? When you swipe up and scroll through the icons? I don't see it in your video.
@@CarPlayLife The reason I ask is at 2:38 when you scroll through your list of apps, split screen isn't there, but at 5:07 it is. I don't have it on mine and I even went into settings and viewed the whole list of installed apps (47) and nothing listed for split screen. It's a shame, as there ARE plenty of split screen apps on the play store but they are all 3rd party software and ads supported. I would have preferred a built in organic option and the one you demonstrate looks good. I have support requests in to Ottocast for an answer.
Isn't that what the multiplay app does via Bluetooth? And my netflix app works fine.. loving this box just they would add 5g for people using a sim cars amd add the usb for portable hdd..
Mine does not work with the MG4, a chinese SAIC car brand. Only 1 out of 10 connections it starts on the car screen. Anyone here already successful with MG electrical vehicles.
A last question can i connect hub usb-c to ai box ? I'm looking for iheylinkit with QCM 6490 if i can connect hub usb-c to add hard drive and usb keyboard/ mouse it's perfect for me
It’s the interaction that could be an issue. I would recommend a BT remote that has a keyboard input on the back of them. Otherwise account sign in and searching will take forever
@CarPlayLife well once I know it will work in my car I'll buy a remote I don't want to get let down again. Not sure why It didn't work it said my car was compatible with it
I think these brands can only test on Asian spec vehicle systems whereas the same model and year system in other territories can be quite different. Compatibility of western cars should be taken with a handful of salt.
Save your money and go p2 non pro. Unless usb over SD card and hdmi in is important to you. If you’re considering the p3 then I guess they are not important.

Hello Anthony. Do you happen to know? How do I switch off the telephone function of the inserted SIM card? I inserted a SIM card, but it is named for my father. when my father receives a call, it appears on the AI box. Can I turn this off somehow?
If the call uses a SIM phone number and not internet based ID for your father surely the number used needs to be ported to a different account to your father’s who should be using a different SIM? Otherwise if using a username ID to call you need to unhook the number from this account through software the ID is tied to. Be it Google or Apple ID in the cloud

Hi all, I am wondering if they put in an Ottocast SIM if it can accept wireless carplay from one iPhone and simultaneously make a hotspot for two iPads to share the internet.
Your iPhone can provide hotspot to multiple devices. This has nothing to do with the Ottocast itself.
I just upgraded from the Picasso 2 Pro to this and so far I'm not very happy .
First off does anybody know how to close apps on this thing? You used to just hold down on the back button and swipe them closed or a close all option. Now the close all option is gone and you can't even swipe them closed
Also missing features would be a custom boot logo, enabling using the car gps vs the inbox gps.
Here is their guide, in case it was any different:
1.Format micro SD card into FAT32
2.Copy update.zip to the root folder of micro SD card
3.Insert the micro SD card into the AI box then power on. Tick [Wipe data and format flash], next tap update.
4.The blue and yellow lights flash alternately while updating
5.After the update is finished, the system will restart.
Where is the split screen app? I cant find it on my device
It’s in the list of apps (unless they removed it recently)
@CarPlayLife it's not there. And now Netflix is stuck on loading whenever I try to watch something.
Mine does not have the split screen app and I bought it a few months ago, only recently went to start using it. Where in your list of apps is it? When you swipe up and scroll through the icons? I don't see it in your video.
I show the whole thing at 5:07. Maybe they removed it due to licensing. Is there not an app on the App Store?
@@CarPlayLife The reason I ask is at 2:38 when you scroll through your list of apps, split screen isn't there, but at 5:07 it is. I don't have it on mine and I even went into settings and viewed the whole list of installed apps (47) and nothing listed for split screen. It's a shame, as there ARE plenty of split screen apps on the play store but they are all 3rd party software and ads supported. I would have preferred a built in organic option and the one you demonstrate looks good. I have support requests in to Ottocast for an answer.
How can I see my phonescreen on the screen of my car (screenmirror) ?
You need a casting app or functionality on the adapter. I don’t think the P3 allows this out of the box.
Isn't that what the multiplay app does via Bluetooth? And my netflix app works fine.. loving this box just they would add 5g for people using a sim cars amd add the usb for portable hdd..
Hi, does anyone know if version 3 is suitable for Mercedes e-class estate 2016 (ntg 5.1 - s212/w212)? Thanks!
Does it have wired CarPlay?
Yes it does
It’s possible. If you can buy it from Amazon you’ll get easier returns if it doesn’t work
How can i get in Developermode? Have P3
What's the best box of these types
They all have their pros and cons. So the best really depends on what you’re looking to do with it.
Best video playback
Mine does not work with the MG4, a chinese SAIC car brand. Only 1 out of 10 connections it starts on the car screen. Anyone here already successful with MG electrical vehicles.
Hello is the picasou 2 pro the only ai box to have usb port to connect hard drive ?
The only decent ai box at the moment yes
@@CarPlayLife thanks for the answer 🙂
A last question can i connect hub usb-c to ai box ? I'm looking for iheylinkit with QCM 6490 if i can connect hub usb-c to add hard drive and usb keyboard/ mouse it's perfect for me
If it has a spare usb port it might work that way. Usually the single usb c is used to power and send data to/from the adapter
the audio is low i can’t barely hear it. support is blowing me off. if anyone gets a fix to the audio let me know
Did you try to insert SDCARD and opened ?
Watch from 8:17
Does this work on my mazda cx 5 2022 . I dont have a touchscreen car screen
Does it have CarPlay. It needs that. Without touch screen it might not be a great experience and you might need to rely on a BT remote.
@@CarPlayLife yes has carplay or android auto what I use but no touchscreen
It’s the interaction that could be an issue. I would recommend a BT remote that has a keyboard input on the back of them. Otherwise account sign in and searching will take forever
@CarPlayLife well once I know it will work in my car I'll buy a remote I don't want to get let down again. Not sure why It didn't work it said my car was compatible with it
I think these brands can only test on Asian spec vehicle systems whereas the same model and year system in other territories can be quite different. Compatibility of western cars should be taken with a handful of salt.
Does it support 60 fps like mmb max?
No it’s 30fps and the MMB max isn’t true 60fps
@@CarPlayLife i tested mmb max with a fps Meter and it measures 59 and 60 fps... And I See the difference with other boxes, scrolling is smoother
That’s odd. I had device info saying 60fps but an installed fps app showed apps were running at 30fps. At least on my max model.
@@CarPlayLife I tested mmb max 2.0 on a Audi car and the Meter Said 60 fps...
Should i order this ottocast p3 or just save money and get the ottocast p2 pro?
Save your money and go p2 non pro. Unless usb over SD card and hdmi in is important to you. If you’re considering the p3 then I guess they are not important.
@@CarPlayLifethanks
Do you think the UI is alittle more quicker on the p2 pro?
Does the youtube perform a bit better and more customizable on the p2 pro?
It’s the same CPU and RAM hardware and software. In fact the Pro didn’t bench as good as non pro. The only difference is the ports.
@@CarPlayLife ok no worries thanks.
what about the p2 pro and the p3 different boot up times?
I’m sure I flash up a card of boot times in the video
bought the device recently ....didn't like the audio
Shame 😔
@@CarPlayLifebest part of the device was today !
seller sent me a manual update do do true sd card ......device boots blank screen and nothing runs ...seller didn't respond after asked for a video 😮
Oh wow. Sorry to hear this. If you’re within your return window maybe return it or make a CC charge back claim on the purchase.
trying to get my money back
.
hopefully aliexpress will help the situation
Good luck with all that
I have a 2019 Lexus RC 300 that has wired Car Play only. I would really like to use Android Auto with my Samsung Phone that just updated it's to Android 14/UI 6.0. It's kinda confusing out here.
Do you know if that can be done? If so what's a product that can do that?
Thanks for the time....
I would try the CarlinKit 4.0 or the Ottocast u2-x Pro
Hello Anthony. Do you happen to know? How do I switch off the telephone function of the inserted SIM card? I inserted a SIM card, but it is named for my father. when my father receives a call, it appears on the AI box. Can I turn this off somehow?
If the call uses a SIM phone number and not internet based ID for your father surely the number used needs to be ported to a different account to your father’s who should be using a different SIM?
Otherwise if using a username ID to call you need to unhook the number from this account through software the ID is tied to. Be it Google or Apple ID in the cloud
Which applications are pre-installed? Waze, Google Maps are in, for example?
2:29 you see me scroll through them
Please play music with default (main widget) player.
Am I meant to be looking for something particular? Any particular file types?
@@CarPlayLife no man I just want to see that if it loads album art when you are playing something via phone, that’s it.
