I dont think he was trying to produce an urban brand. Although I hear what Poet is saying to some degree, just because black people of a certain demographic dont fuck with MDV doesnt mean black people dont fuck with MDV. I love the brand but I am a female so its slightly different for men in this convo however, not all black people dress in tracksuits and streetwear so lets not reduce an entire race to monolithic fashion choices. Its a luxury brand, not streetwear and not all black people or men specifically want to dress in Trapstar or tracksuits 24/7. They should be congratulated for their success as black-owned businesses regardless of the demographic of customers. There’s only like 5 masters in each field and everyone usually knows who they are. If you have an influx of people like this. It’s likely the majority are just normal people. Retail staff, admin workers, you know? 😂 They’re not entrepreneurs and you’ve given away all of my generations money.

I think the points raised about the community are valid, we all know the black guy raised in a “white” environment that’s for the most part carry’s himself like a stereotypically white person of said community. What I think is very telling is the “too black to be white & too white to be black” because that nuance (for the most part) is only because a person has tried to bring an unwelcome mentality to a black community.
Let me land, it sounds like Reece was shunned where he was raised, not fitting in was because of his skin colour or some other racially motivated reason which arguably only seems to becomes apparent in white communities. I think that mentality of being accepted or rejected because of your skin colour becomes a trauma and instead of just making friend based on who you are, you look to be people with that share a skewed vision of fitting in because of race and that (stereotypically) tends to be white communities. People who have been through this/ something similar then look to the black community to just accept them due to race because that’s all they know. But the minority communities need more than skin to accept you. We don’t accept that skewed mentality.
Because if you flip it and he was raised in an ethnic minority community then as an adult went to a white community he’d be accepted so long as his accent changed and he became palatable. Our communities don’t play that.
My point being, he was looking for a pass from the ethic minority communities just based on race, he was rejected instead. He made no attempt to incorporate and grow or add value as those within the ethnic minority communities do. And because he hasn’t had the acceptance of just fitting in because of skin colour he’s rejected us all and pushes the rhetoric that we’d be celebrating if it was a fully black person that does it while not mentioning what his home community have said of his success, I wonder why ..?
All black ppl here we know what poet means when he said his mums white and I’m sure we all have that one person in mind hahahah
