Nice video! Excellent work! I assume this is a non interference engine? Otherwise you would not be able to spin the camshaft around and around without hitting the pistons when the main timing chain has not been attached yet. Is my understanding correct?
If you rotate the camshaft with the piston position at the top, they will touch the bearings, but if you position the piston at the bottom, they will not touch the bearings.
I got the timing marks on the camshaft gears vs chain. However, it was not clear how you set "top dead center"? of the crankshaft to align with shaft gear sprocket. It seemed you probed while rotating crankshaft until probe was at it's highest point?
@@MayoCarsDR Ah, yes, I see it now. Cyl 1 is at "Top Dead Center" of the compression stroke (all valves in closed position). Many thanks. (I have a 2016 4Runner, and may never need to rebuild the engine which now has 40,000 miles on the clock. But I am a Mechanical Engineer, and eat these videos for breakfast!)
Crankshaft has a dot on the reluctor wheel, there’s a line on the block it lines up with. Also the crank pulley has marks that line up with the mark on the timing cover, you have to pull the valve covers off to find tdc. When marks on the intake cam gears are lines up with marks on the cam caps for bank 1 and bank 2 and the crank pulley is at 0 tdc on the timing cover you’re at Cyl 1 tdc
When you did the idler pulley 1 top centre, did it have a lock pin to keep the oil injection in line? Need to know as I’m currently doing mine. Please help as I can not even find a lock pin and toyota are useless
Hello. What type of seal packing do I need to use for the timing cover? The FSM calls for two different types. One for the water pump ports (08826-00100) and a different one (08826-00080) for the other areas. I have 00295-00103 which replaces 08826-00080. I don't have 08826-00100 for the water pump areas on the timing cover. Toyota sell this for $100 and it is not readily available at my local dealer. Is there an alternative that I can use for this area?
