I love how this is one of the episodes where people start to understand the greatness of this show and globally it's not even in the top 10 episodes. This show will keep answering just one or two questions but open up room for hundreds of others. Another great aspect is no matter how much you try to pay attention to every small detail, you would NEVER be able to predict what will happen in the show. ISAYAMA is a freaking genius!!! Also, because you are a Dr. In literature I would absolutely love to read an essay about this show, after watching it multiple times, i think I could easily write 10000 words about it. Keep up the post-reaction analysis, I love hearing a deeper insight about each episode

It may be a reach but i have always thought that Eren with the boulder resembles the Atlas statue literaly and symbolically.
The same way atlas is carring the word in his shouders Eren is carring humanity's survival in his shoulders (because we know if they lose the second wall there is not enough resourses for all) giving humanity their firts real win against the titans protecting their whole world aka everybody inside the walls.
    If true, great simbolism.

One thing that AoT’s author, Isayama, is really good at, is keeping dead characters revelant to the ongoing plot. He never forgets a character that he’s killed off, and their legacy will continue to influence the story, sometimes in surprising and unexpected ways.

5:35 - Jean is using the gear of the fallen soldier. It's safe to assume that everyone's own gear is adjusted and calibrated specifically for them, like necessary strength to pull the trigger etc. So Jean was essentially trying to make do with equipment he was not used to, hence him being more bumbly in his escape compared to his usual very skillful manoeuvres.

I'm a big fan of the new format. It gives you the time to cook, and you're really good at cooking. It's wonderful being able to hear your theories, hear your thoughts on characters, motifs, etc., and call back to literature and literary concepts that you have much more familiarity with and understanding of than I do. I just hope you don't overexert yourself with all the work and time that takes to do.
I do think the audio ended up better this episode, but I'm not personally concerned by you doing what you need to do. I've also finally been able to try out some more makeup stuff (still being pretty new) and 100% stole some blush inspiration. Even just adding stronger blush to the front of my nose looks SOOOO GOOD and has come with compliments.

This comment is without spoilers, and only speaks of the nature of react content in relation to theories
    Hello Dr. Sophie,
Watching your reaction to Attack on Titan has been a joy. Your latest addition to the format, being you doing a post-reaction session diving deeper into your thoughts and possible theories have been amazing to experience. It is a look inside of the mind of another and, in a sense, a teaching moment. Your way of thinking is fascinating.
The only downside is that as much as people, such as myself would love to interact with your thoughts, we cannot. As it would influence or otherwise hinder your unique point of view. It is the sad nature of this type of content. I hope that your audience and the community can respect this and let you completely go through this show without any type of spoiler.
Just know that our silence is one of respect.
    With kind regards,
    Just another viewer.

Wow i really appreciate all the fhe effort you put in these episodes! I loved how you picked up on Marcos character through the little bits of screentime he got, often hes very forgotten by reactors. He definitely didnt deserve the way he died, he was such a sweet boy.
On jean: hes one of my favourite characters because of this reason; He's introduced as someone living his life following the system, taking advantage of it and not questioning it, despite all the inequality and unfairness in it. As long as he survived and was safe, he was alright with all of it. Now he's going to do what is right, fighting back for humanity, despite it putting him in life threatening situations. I feel like this changeup is so hopeful. I cant help but always get emotional in this anime because the people are so real and I can't help but link it to real life. In fighting for whats right you can often feel like it doesn't matter, nothing will ever change. But we will persist, despite of the outcome.

Marco did indeed deserve better... It's devastating how few minutes before we are jumping off our seats in excitement when Eren puts down the boulder, then we get crushed seeing Marco didn't make it...

7:21 I just noticed that Jean and Ian both said that they should defend Eren here, but assuming they didn't move around means that they both had the same idea even when they didn't hear each other.
Then from what Pyxis said that Ian can discern sweet from bitter alcohol, this is the "bitter" alcohol they should take for everyone else to have that sweet moment of victory. It's super impressive for Jean to have that kind of mindset given that he's literally a teenager here.
I hope I explained it well lol

  • @jessbellis9510
    @jessbellis9510 2 дня назад +2

It's a bit confusing on Crunchyroll, but the whole weird situation with Jean and then the close up of Annie's face is due to time constraints on the animators. The bluray version has the full animation, where Annie jumped onto the leaping titan's chin to send it downwards. Unfortunately the Bluray has worse subtitles, so Crunchyroll is generally better.

Firstly, keep it up these reactions/analysis combos are great, and I know they are a lot more effort. It is much appreciated 👍. There is a quote which I will paraphrase “One death is a tragedy, 1 million deaths is a statistic”. Watching you experience that quote when you reacted “rationally” to the statistics of how many people died compared with the emotional truck hitting you when you realized Marco was dead was just amazing to see play out. The fact that human nature adheres to this so strongly has always been fascinating to me. I really liked how they didn’t round the numbers to a couple hundred deaths and a thousand wounded, nor should they, every death should matter, which this show does a wonderful job expressing.

Not a spoiler, but this episode got rushed out before all the animation was finished which is why there are those spots of freeze frames at 6:00, and you see some weird colours in some scenes. That scene where Jean narrowly escapes death that is frozen on the titans face is basically the titan leaping at Jean upside down, and Annie coming in from above with a flying kick to its chin to push it out of Jean's path. When this episode got re-released on Blu Ray it was fixed, but a lot of the anime streaming services still have the original airing which has this error. I think this is the only time in this season that it happens, but there are a couple other times during the show if i remember properly.

Talking about Dark Souls, the most fearsome oponent is not the strong, but the weak who can try again with a high morale forever. If you want an anime that represents this theme, watch Re;Zero. Subaru is the coolest hero ever written.
Regarding AoT, what can I say at this point besides don't worry, because it will keep surpassing your wildest expectatives about what this is really about. Something about certain select animes is that they're able to keep zooming out way beyond "just" complex political or social discussions. Ironically, sometimes one of these is labeled as "shonen" because it is published in the Shonen Jump Magazine.

They're not the same thing and never have been. An anti-hero does something that is considered morally grey but for the greater good even if we cannot necessarily agree with the action on an ethical level. A villain does evil for the sake of being evil and self-fulfilling goals. Anti heroes follow the trajectory of the hero but achieving their goal is more morally dubious than righteous like the hero.

This is the version that's on Crunchyroll. Blu-ray would require me A) Purchasing the series which is not cheap. B) Having a disc drive on my PC which I do not. The broken scenes are on an official platform that I am paying money for so it is what it is. It's really not detracting too much from the analysis or my react especially as it was just a fight scene.

Love this reactor, but the editing f*cks the audio so bad.

That’s what happens with Japanese copyrights.
