Exchanging Money in

Vlog 22 December 2023 | Someone posted on my vlog that you need to be loaded with American Dollars (USD Dolares) and have a cedula (national ID card with residency or citizenship) to be able to shop at a grocery store in Nicaragua because you need that to exchange those dollars for local Cordoba #currency. Is that true? What do people really do here?

Canadians just need to keep in mind that Nicaraguan transactions will be posted to your card at current $US exchange rates, which are typically pretty poor. Now you can look at getting a Canadian-based card in $US that may work out better for you.

I had no problem exchanging my us money to cordobas at the bank with my Canadian passport . Then I realized that the dollar is used interchangeably everywhere…🤦🏽‍♀️

Just FYI, I use Discover all the time here, if they have a BAC POS they’ll take Discover. I pretty much exclusively use Discover because of the benefits and acceptance rate here.
