The priest who married us 32 years ago, and the majority of my nieces and nephew.
He was a convert from Lutheranism, is completely in love with the Eucharist and our lady. He's the most reverential, and he's joyful not jovial, but is just a warm, comforting presence. He's been an inspiration for several young men to join the priesthood.

When I was a child (up until I was in High School), growing up in Asia, we had 2 of such priests. Both were from Holland. The first one was who baptized me and all of my 6 siblings. Then he retired when I was about 12 y.o. His replacement who's only probably a few yrs younger (I couldn't tell his real age but in my memory of a 12 y.o. he looked like a 60+), always biked around our village visiting families. He and my sister (1 yr older than I) always had arguments because she didn't go to church anymore. Yes, a 60+ y old man arguing with 12 y old adolescent. But he answered all of my sister's 'objections'. That's what's important.

We had priests over the house all the time. I have some awesome memories of that time. Sadly, there just seems to be so fewer priests around and the ones that are have been inundated with work and just aren’t available for this type of thing. A major item a priest should offer is a quiet church for prayer. He needs to delegate to someone and make sure there is no talking or disruptions before or immediately after the Mass. This appears to be the role of ushers but rarely performed where I have attended. How can one prepare for the real presence without the proper atmosphere?
Equally important is an encouragement and providing an atmosphere to honor God in prayer after Mass while the Eucharist is most present in the body. If a priest desires true devotion to the real presence, it needs to be shown by how the is a place of worship not socialization at inappropriate times.

Good luck with that, my Catholic family. In my experience, that sort of behavior becomes extinct when the pastor exemplifies that reverence himself and like a father, habitually reminds his children to show reverence and respect in God’s home. I love watching as my more elderly parishioners are having conversations before mass in the pews and after the only thing missing are the bartenders serving the faithful. They just have never been taught properly. It’s ingrained from decades of lax priests and it is reflected in the liturgy. It starts from the top!! Keep it up, Keith, great stuff.
