Your execution of how Simon played this live was spot on. You definitly put the time in to get it just right. Hard enough playing the added fills, but getting that air between the notes was perfect. Your video is a great teaching tool for all us drummers to learn from. It’s an impotant lesson on how great drummers like Jeff and Simon used the space between notes to add dynamics to there playing. Again, GREAT JOB, you NAILED it.

well done! However, you missed the typical Phillips groove with the accent on the 3 e. Listen to I will remember of Toto, Simon is using the same accent pattern.

Most people on RUclips have no idea how hard it is to actually play this kind of stuff. Not only to learn it and play it, but to also record it and make the video. I feel ya. About my sound, first I made a video about my drum set, and soon I will upload another one about the microphone setup.
I tried a lot of drum heads for my toms (single or double ply, coated or clear), for my recording studio I heard about the Evans EC2, I tried and I loved them. I don't have any trick to tune my toms, just I always have an octave between the 10" and 16". From 16 to 8" it's like DO, Mi, Sol, Do, Mi. And, at the end, great room, great mic, preamp and mix. This is the key.
Phillips live version is WAY more involved than Jeff's studio and I'm a guitar player. Anyway, you kill it dude, you could seriously play with them!

Hi, the snare is the pearl Reference, 14*6.5, it's a 20 ply snare, very thick, whis an remo cs coated.
Toms are with evans ec2 except the 8" with g2.

Hi, nicely handled version. I know this ain´t "the latest" recording anymore, but in case you nor anyone haven´t pointed out. Just a tiny struggle at 1:31--> quess you´ve noticed it too?
And, after "every" fill, the first snare hit comes just a tiny bit late. Like at 2:35--> And 3:34-->
But nevertheless.. This is very very natural and human thing and quess we´re all quilty for(imo).
It´s like "the spot" for drummer. Consetrating to execute it flawless. BUt immediately after, drummer must keep his/her focus on the time & groove.
I´m not criticizing you, nor your playin´, just wanna point out the "most" over-looked & maybe most common out-of-time-playing.
Your flow is a bit off in terms of dynamics, but props for covering an awesome song, dude.

It's kinda weird, you can keep tempo much better on the verse than the chorus. You rush and drag when the ride is played. Great cover btw!

How did you soundproof your room like so the sound doesn’t get out because I had to sell my acoustic drum set to get an electric one because of the noise( neighbors got mad)
This place is a professional recording studio, first the studio is located in a commercial area. To soundproof the studio I had to built a "box in a box" that mean that the room is not in contact with the building itself. Each wall is around 40cm thick with different layers of materiel to soundproof the room. Very hard and very expensive
Just needs a double bass pedal and it will be 100% perfect ;-) Other than that it is fantastic :-)

Here you can easily see the difference - "Open Hand" techniques from Simon Phillips and "normal" technique. You have the space and the time for alternating between diffrend instruments of the kit. When you have no time ande no space, your playing ist not in time of the rhythm.
