Wow. These are great tips for someone like me with relatively short hands and fingers! The thumb placement tip was especially helpful, as were the fannning and pinky first tips. I'm just getting back into acoustic guitar after a number of years away when I was an advanced beginner/low intermediate fingerpicker at best and severely lacking in structure to my learning. I'm considering your Ultimate Fingerpicking course. Thanks!
@barney9997, you are very welcome! Glad you found the video helpful! If you have any questions about The Ultimate Fingerpicking Guitar Course, let me know :)
@HobbyHillsVideos, I take your point, but it's the same technique whether you have long or short fingers. You must be doing something wrong if it's not working for you :) Btw, I'm sure you'll find a tonne of videos showing people with short fingers playing guitar well, I know I've known many over the years both as instructors of mine, as well as my own students.
Dudes pinky in longer than most peoples middle finger. People with small hands have a 2" pinky. That means they can't even reach top string without entire hand coming around to front of neck. That's what people with small hands want explained.
@fwiler, Even with short fingers, you can reach the bottom string. I've had too many instructors and students who can do this with short fingers. Unless you have some kind of injury, it is your technique that is preventing you from doing this, as in your fretting hand position.
@@acousticguitarlessons Measure 2" on a tape measure and bend it like a finger. That leaves 1" of length. The measurement from pinky to bottom of hand is 2" when curved. That barely covers the neck. So playing with your entire hand in front of neck so you can reach is no bueno even if you think so many instructors and students can do it. Hint, they actually have longer fingers than what I am talking about.

Doesn't work for me. Maybe have a person with small hands show us how play rather the long-fingered person in the video.
