Honestly, what they should do, is program AI to use speed to their advantage when they have it, and to retreat from an overwhelming force like that. That way, in order to get any kills at all, you would NEED to bring small fast 'mechs, because your lumbering "obliterate everything" assaults would never catch the opfor to even get a shot off.

Imagine you're a pirate faction and you see a Leopard land. Out steps two Locusts and an Urbanmech and you think that it'll be another easy kill. And then a fucking MAD-II steps out behind them like an overprotective parent.
King Crabs kick ass. I managed to salvage one last night. Loaded her up with 2 RAC5s, 2 Srm6 Magpulses, and a large laser with hardened armor. She’s a fuckin monster. The double armor allows me to facetank just about anything with little issue, and the Magpulse srms can shut mechs down before they can do anything. Then I just take em apart with the RAC5s and large laser
2 large lasers, 2 medium lasers, and a shoulders mounted PPC, upgraded as available. Eventually replaced with 2 large pulse lasers, 2 medium pulse lasers, and a shoulder mounted ER PPC. Also max armor, full jump jets, and enough heat sinks to run cool as ice in the Sahara. A worthy command mech.
Started the game. 2 hours in (only about 4 missions) i sold half my mechs to buy an Atlas. Then after skimping and saving every last C-Bill i could get i was piloting that Atlas and stumble upon a shop with an Annihilator. That entire playthrough from beginning to end was afterward a cakewalk.
You should give the Stalker a go. The 3f variant can mount 24 SRM tubes, 4 medium lasers and 2 large lasers. The heat is incredible, but it can cut down 75 ton heavy mechs within seconds.
On my _fifth mission_ in a new RogueTech game (with Hell's Horses start) I managed to play a defense mission where each star had a clanner assault mech. I managed to get a *Direwolf* to eject using nothing but APC's and Elementals. _It had full salvage_ This is pretty much how I felt.
Excuse my surprise, but how in the hell did you manage that with just APC's and Ele PA? I'm picturing this happening like that meme where the guy goes to stomp on a cockroach, and the roach pulls out a rocket launcher lol
@@TheIcarusFalls Was a mix of luck and planning. I was playing Hells Horses so I had a bunch of very strong APC's to start (like two Epona Prime and another with a PPC and another hover APC). I utlized the APC's carry mechanic to hold a bunch of Salamanders and Gnomes while keeping my commander (protomech start) in line. Due to my speed (smaller vehicles going generally before everything else with power armor, lighter mechs, and protomechs) I essentially got into position and utilized the cover to dash between cover points to retain mobility pips and reduced sight, I had dispatched the enemy smaller 'mechs by separating them from the Wolf. Because they are also very quick on initiative, I would abuse the hold position mechanic to belay my initiative to the very end, essentially taking two turns of action in a row when I finally sprung the trap. I did my best to lure the enemy into a bit of a trap, keeping my units hidden behind cover while utilizing their slow speed. After surrounding the Dire Wolf, I sprung the trap, sending in everything to near point blank range (as it was dual railguns) while primarily hitting it with as much melee as physically possible. Basically, I gang rushed him after he took a potshot at one of my APC's and nearly killed it and kicked at his shins until he fell on his behind. Instead of a cockroach pulling out a rocket launcher, I smashed a bunch of clown cars at his ankles and ran a circus on his feet. Thanks to belaying my initiative, I took two turns of action with my ENTIRE force before it even got to move. The salamanders went last and nearly roasted the entire mech to 100% on the single attack (because salamanders are awesome that way). Direwolf ejected due to pilot failing their leadership or whatever mechanic it was.
Low level combat zone: Enemy Locust: Oh look another merc drop ship coming in... Enemy Urbanmech: I bet they are going to be some Panthers and shit in there fucking sweaty mercs. Enemy Tank: We are going to try to blow off their legs so you can kill them lads! Drop ship lands and a Locust walks out. Everyone laughs. Drop ship takes off revealing that a Marauder II Walked off on the other side! Incoherent screaming

Yeah, I about had a stroke when I started a new co-op campaign the other day, earn my first 15mil, go to 1 production zone, busted up marauder 2 for 7mill. Needless to say, all you heard was the seagulls from finding Nemo for 5min. Then I went to the planet next door. Busted to hell catapult and marauder for a total of 8mill and change. Sold a few salvaged mechs and all you heard, AGAIN, Finding Nemo seagulls for another 12min. Lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I play with the yet another mechlab and weapons with lore friendly mechs mods on. 400 days into new campain and i travel near terra and decide to stop cause i see they have a hero mech, it was fuck mothering Atlas 2 for 17 million. I sold every mech but my URB-K9. Then the gauss rifle went pew pew

This is one of the problems i have from a purely canonicity issue with video games in the setting. The Combine period, but in 3015, having MadII for sale to mercenaries when at this point Wolf's Dragoons had still had exclusivity of the mech /pedantic. They're still such nice mechs though.
@@burnttoast.2017 The Marauder II entered production in 3012, was a Dragoon's exclusive product produced for them by Blackwell remaining so until 3025. During the timeframe of early production the Wolfs Dragoons were in the service of House Marik there would be no mechs to salvage from their Alpha regiment and certainly none in the combine during this period. Like if this was a decade further down the timeline? Yeah 3025 I could potentially see as someone salvaged one, maybe. 3029 Sure absolutely. But 3015 for a mech that has only been in production for less than 3 years
Fun fact: You can fit a pair of ARROW-IV launchers-plus a respectable amount of ammo-into some MAD-II variants. Usually, there's also enough tonnage to spare for a smattering of MLs as well. For popping VTOLs, of course.

tbh there a bad thing in the game which is that the enemy AI will focuse fire on the player even if you were piloting a light mech meaning that you should have the highest armor value and your teamate should get the highest fire power possible
@@nopda4095 They target the most threatening damage source, which is usually you. They will also go for weapons that hurt them a lot, like that gauss rifle in that arm you forgot to maximize the armor for.
To be fair the AI now works hella good with a light mech. Sometimes I through on my locust PB or Spider with AMS and let them run house on enemy too far for me to walk over to kill
My earliest assault was also an Atlas D I found at like rep 5. On Terra in pristine condition no less. My favorite assault is actually the Mauler-KO though. Thing is gigachad if you build it right.
@@combativeThinker Two UAC/5s, two SRM 6 + ART IVs, and two Large Pulse Lasers. It just drills through components. The UAC5s are also good for getting rid of air and tanks if the LPLs are on cooldown.
A couple months late, but the Marauder is like the M1911 of battlemechs. I recommend going to the channel the Black Pants Legion. They have a playlist called Tex Talk Battletech, there latest video is about the Marauder.
Honestly that’s nothing to getting a Highlander in Davion Space as a rare mech. Literally the best feeling in a playthrough to get either a few heavy mechs or an assault mech early on.
Marauder 2 is heavier than the Highlander. I love the Blackwatch Highlander as much as the next guy, but the Marauder 2 is 100 tons, like the Atlas..... and comes with Atlas levels of armor.
First time i just collected like 20+mio creds and decided "let´s fly to a high level area and see what the trade hub got" *it´s an annihilator with quad LBX-10 and it´s fully functional* ... Let´s just say things got real messy, for anyone in line of sight that is.
I can't bring myself to pilot that in anything other than defense and warzone. Even with the speed upgrade it's still only 37 mph! I swear I can scratch my balls, put the controller down and count to 15, and still beat an annihilator in a race from one side of a base to another.

@@garycannon4644 Ahhh the mech that is larger than a crab with a head that sticks out like a sore thumb. For the same tonnage, the annihilator is much easier to kill with more of its internal body slots taken up by moving parts. Especially relevant if you use the mechlab mod and put something like an XXL engine on and the shoulders can not fit larger weapons.

yeah jumped to a system to a mission for the turian conordant and while jumping found 2 more marauders i went from 60 million C-bills down to 10 million (refits repairs and upgrades) now i have 3 marauders and a locust !
Pretending the urbie isn't commiting even more murder. I always assume urbie pilots are just hunchback pilots in training, and they will be promoted when and if they get their first assault coring.

Thats about what my setup was in Battletech (because all my good mechs got screwed by medium mechs) So you can imagine three colorful locusts and then a huge black and red colored King Crab saying "incredible violence"
In my case, I'm *_ALWAYS_* on the lookout for a serviceable Battlemaster at the earliest opportunity. I love that thing when it's loaded with nothing but clusters of lasers. Makes it really deadly if you're good at scoring headshots with those lasers. Honestly, I wish the game allowed us to create our own custom "Hero" 'Mech variants that could show up in future runs in shops with whatever loadout and paint scheme it had upon being "saved" as a custom "Hero" 'Mech. Would be a nice way to add our own personal lingering "touch" to the game.
The core concept Behind the light lance Is 3 light. And a medium or a very fast heavy to act as their fire support and Engagement commander. Once the recon is done the light lance is meant to run away Well the medium to heavy acts as its fire support to field their backline so they don't get chased. It fires the little guy's fall back the little guy start to fire, The fire support unit falls back. So on and so forth until you get back until you're within side your own lines. At which point you begin static defense With the intention of wearing down your opponents until the point where they start to flee at which point you will most likely be still stable enough to begin to. Pursue and destroy With the entirety of your Unit not just including your scouts but also your Medium cavalry your heavy brawlers and your assault fire supports.
Pretty much what happened in the multiplayer session but it was even more violent then this basically 3 years in and we upgraded the luck to find mechs and loot to 20% and then in concession we found a marauder, king crab and a Atlas in the span of 10 minutes lets say by the time Kestral Lancers campaign started it was easy with some of the other mechs we also found along the way........

This MAD2 would likely be combat salvage sold by a mercenary group that fought the dragoons or Blackwell, and didn't want the MAD2 and preferred the profit of selling it

3 playthroughs, all have advanced past 3060 in the timeline and I have yet to see a marauder II appear in any stores T-T You are one lucky son of a gun.
Same with me, I'm still pissed at how hard they are to salvage. Even with all my points in salvage in "Stop the Launch" I couldn't salvage the marauder 2 that showed up, and what's worse is that I inflicted as much damage on it as I could without destroying the core, ripping off its arms, destroying a leg and killing the pilot with a perfect headshot.
@@PSC4.1 I think the salvage point cost of a mech is related to it's direct resell value. So in a sense, clean headshots are punished way more than rewarded, in regards of salvaging.
Do as much damage to the mech as possible and as long as the reactor doesnt go critical there is a CHANCE to salvage the mech, sometimes the faction your working for takes it right off the bat
And then I run into one relatively early on as an enemy and managed to headshot it to death and claim it for myself once the mission was over, so I didn't really even have to pay anything for mine! XD
I've been hunting for this wehicle all over the galaxy more than 10 ingame years! Accumulated mоre mechs than it is reasonable to count including a couple assaults from the Kerensky exoudus fleet. Futile. And he gets it EARLY!
I have bankrupted myself on several occasions for shiny new toys that I could scarcely afford to repair. Because nothing says "Fuck you" like 2 Atlas' wading in for fisticuffs backed up by 2 Marauder 2's providing heavy volleys of fire.
It was like that playing battletech (the turn based strategy PC game)... I found an early assembled anihilator.. sold my pants to get it and didnot even had to pay attention to the game because it became too easy.
I ran into AC20 urbans during a playthrough of Battletech. I lost two pilots and three mechs. Everyone gripes about the trash cans until they start coming in AC20
@@starlightdragon2665 even with ac10's they can mess you up, especially early game. and they are used to garrison bases and cities a LOT. I learned to fear the mech everyone laughs at pretty early on. it's worth having something with good pinpoint damage so you can try to snipe off that arm. i think urbies must get some kind of bonus, because an urbie with an ac10 will give me much higher repair bills than it ought to, if you don't snipe off that arm or just pound it to dust beyond the range of that ac10.

I’m scared of Urbies now, more times than I can count I’ve taken a raid contract solo with no lance and have gotten swarmed by like 3 urbies slowly lumbering around me fucking my shit up shredding my legs to pieces
Is there necessarily a reason to take a contract solo? You are doing the work of 3 other pilots by yourself. It don't pay more, and the damage probably works out to be about the same.

I spent a few mil C-bills flying in circles, gave up, then found one not far from Terra in ex davion territory, after they merged with Steiner on my way back to where I was doing missions.
It is possible to get the Marauder 2 is 3020, thus far at this early time i have only seen it spawn in Stiner territory, and is exceedingly rare. In that out of so many play through i have only came across it once at that time.
Its a beautiful thing to behold..... but sucks weapon wise. On the plus side when I FINALLY got one in career mode the game glitched and gave me a second, identical copy.

Getting two of the IS’s most notorious assault mechs within a few hours of starting the game does tend to make your life quite a bit easier.

It took me months to stumble across a normal Marauder, you underestimate how bad/how many people want to get MAD.
This is one of the problems i have from a purely canonicity issue with video games in the setting. The Combine period, but in 3015, having MadII for sale to mercenaries when at this point Wolf's Dragoons had still had exclusivity of the mech /pedantic.
They're still such nice mechs though.
I mean as a Davion Merc I still got an early game BLG-1G from Kurita, which I then immediately used agaisnt them.

During the timeframe of early production the Wolfs Dragoons were in the service of House Marik there would be no mechs to salvage from their Alpha regiment and certainly none in the combine during this period. Like if this was a decade further down the timeline? Yeah 3025 I could potentially see as someone salvaged one, maybe. 3029 Sure absolutely. But 3015 for a mech that has only been in production for less than 3 years

Fun fact: You can fit a pair of ARROW-IV launchers-plus a respectable amount of ammo-into some MAD-II variants.

tbh there a bad thing in the game which is that the enemy AI will focuse fire on the player even if you were piloting a light mech meaning that you should have the highest armor value and your teamate should get the highest fire power possible

@@nopda4095 They target the most threatening damage source, which is usually you. They will also go for weapons that hurt them a lot, like that gauss rifle in that arm you forgot to maximize the armor for.
To be fair the AI now works hella good with a light mech. Sometimes I through on my locust PB or Spider with AMS and let them run house on enemy too far for me to walk over to kill

My earliest assault was also an Atlas D I found at like rep 5. On Terra in pristine condition no less. My favorite assault is actually the Mauler-KO though. Thing is gigachad if you build it right.

@@combativeThinker Two UAC/5s, two SRM 6 + ART IVs, and two Large Pulse Lasers. It just drills through components. The UAC5s are also good for getting rid of air and tanks if the LPLs are on cooldown.

Honestly that’s nothing to getting a Highlander in Davion Space as a rare mech. Literally the best feeling in a playthrough to get either a few heavy mechs or an assault mech early on.
I found a hero highlander last week and the damn thing was a friggin beast I loves it untill I found the almighty atlas

Marauder 2 is heavier than the Highlander. I love the Blackwatch Highlander as much as the next guy, but the Marauder 2 is 100 tons, like the Atlas..... and comes with Atlas levels of armor.

Same here, earlier today I found an Annihilator a I so happy I freaked out but 15 minutes later I saw about 5 other ones and became old news already.
I can't bring myself to pilot that in anything other than defense and warzone. Even with the speed upgrade it's still only 37 mph! I swear I can scratch my balls, put the controller down and count to 15, and still beat an annihilator in a race from one side of a base to another.

@@garycannon4644 Ahhh the mech that is larger than a crab with a head that sticks out like a sore thumb. For the same tonnage, the annihilator is much easier to kill with more of its internal body slots taken up by moving parts. Especially relevant if you use the mechlab mod and put something like an XXL engine on and the shoulders can not fit larger weapons.

In my case, I'm *_ALWAYS_* on the lookout for a serviceable Battlemaster at the earliest opportunity. I love that thing when it's loaded with nothing but clusters of lasers. Makes it really deadly if you're good at scoring headshots with those lasers. Honestly, I wish the game allowed us to create our own custom "Hero" 'Mech variants that could show up in future runs in shops with whatever loadout and paint scheme it had upon being "saved" as a custom "Hero" 'Mech. Would be a nice way to add our own personal lingering "touch" to the game.

The core concept Behind the light lance Is 3 light. And a medium or a very fast heavy to act as their fire support and Engagement commander. Once the recon is done the light lance is meant to run away Well the medium to heavy acts as its fire support to field their backline so they don't get chased. It fires the little guy's fall back the little guy start to fire, The fire support unit falls back. So on and so forth until you get back until you're within side your own lines. At which point you begin static defense With the intention of wearing down your opponents until the point where they start to flee at which point you will most likely be still stable enough to begin to. Pursue and destroy With the entirety of your Unit not just including your scouts but also your Medium cavalry your heavy brawlers and your assault fire supports.

Pretty much what happened in the multiplayer session but it was even more violent then this basically 3 years in and we upgraded the luck to find mechs and loot to 20% and then in concession we found a marauder, king crab and a Atlas in the span of 10 minutes lets say by the time Kestral Lancers campaign started it was easy with some of the other mechs we also found along the way........

This MAD2 would likely be combat salvage sold by a mercenary group that fought the dragoons or Blackwell, and didn't want the MAD2 and preferred the profit of selling it
The 4A should actually be fine by this point, it's the 5A that should be exclusive to the Dragoons and their closest friends

Same with me, I'm still pissed at how hard they are to salvage. Even with all my points in salvage in "Stop the Launch" I couldn't salvage the marauder 2 that showed up, and what's worse is that I inflicted as much damage on it as I could without destroying the core, ripping off its arms, destroying a leg and killing the pilot with a perfect headshot.

What was your Lyran reputation? Mine was only at, like, +3 and I still got it.
@@PSC4.1 I think the salvage point cost of a mech is related to it's direct resell value. So in a sense, clean headshots are punished way more than rewarded, in regards of salvaging.
Do as much damage to the mech as possible and as long as the reactor doesnt go critical there is a CHANCE to salvage the mech, sometimes the faction your working for takes it right off the bat
And then I run into one relatively early on as an enemy and managed to headshot it to death and claim it for myself once the mission was over, so I didn't really even have to pay anything for mine! XD
I've been hunting for this wehicle all over the galaxy more than 10 ingame years! Accumulated mоre mechs than it is reasonable to count including a couple assaults from the Kerensky exoudus fleet. Futile. And he gets it EARLY!
Without ghost heat, I slapped 6 LLsbs on it. It just melts everything. Incredible how 1 mech can carry you from 20-25 difficulty missions to 50+
I have bankrupted myself on several occasions for shiny new toys that I could scarcely afford to repair. Because nothing says "Fuck you" like 2 Atlas' wading in for fisticuffs backed up by 2 Marauder 2's providing heavy volleys of fire.

Yeah, I got a king crab right after the prison break mission in the campaign. The rest of it was an utter curbstomping.
I nabbed a Stalker just before the 'destroy the dropship' mission. Needless to say, my PC now has a LRM phobia.

I ran into AC20 urbans during a playthrough of Battletech. I lost two pilots and three mechs.
Everyone gripes about the trash cans until they start coming in AC20
@@starlightdragon2665 even with ac10's they can mess you up, especially early game. and they are used to garrison bases and cities a LOT. I learned to fear the mech everyone laughs at pretty early on. it's worth having something with good pinpoint damage so you can try to snipe off that arm. i think urbies must get some kind of bonus, because an urbie with an ac10 will give me much higher repair bills than it ought to, if you don't snipe off that arm or just pound it to dust beyond the range of that ac10.

Is there necessarily a reason to take a contract solo? You are doing the work of 3 other pilots by yourself. It don't pay more, and the damage probably works out to be about the same.

It is possible to get the Marauder 2 is 3020, thus far at this early time i have only seen it spawn in Stiner territory, and is exceedingly rare. In that out of so many play through i have only came across it once at that time.
