I thoroughly enjoy home makeover shows on tv, but sometimes the comments hosts make about pre-makeover homes (''we have to gut everything'', ''none of this is salvageable'', ''I can't believe how these people could've lived this way'', etc.) really get to me, since my family never had much money and all of our furniture is thrifted, salvaged from dumpsters, gifted, etc. I'm thrilled that you truly appreciate what your family already owns and that it's not just a case of ''ew, our house is awful and outdated'' when it isn't. My house growing up had a roof that leaked every time it rained and was just falling apart everywhere, but I still lived in a nice home compared to the rest in my neighborhood. I'd say she lives in a fairly well-off middle class home. Certainly not everyone's "normal" home
