I love love love your cheat using the plastic tabs with Mylar bags to vacuum seal! Never felt comfortable with the way people on other channels did them. I just love how witty you are!
I have found that when the jars sealers aren’t working sometimes it is due to residue in the gaskets. If you take the gaskets out and wash and dry everything thoroughly it helps.
The one thing that I like above all the other videos on the same topic is the detail you go through to explain everything. There is no doubt left in what should be done. Another fantastic video!!
You are awesome and my go-to source. Your ability to explain concepts with clarity and succinctness cannot be matched. My confidence is preserving food and making preparations for the unknown future is due to the information you have provided in your videos. Thank you, my guru.
Great teaching. One other item I use to vacuum seal my mason jars is a Brake Bleeder. Very easy to use, not expensive, and requires no power other then your hand to pump the air out of your canning jars so it is perfect for a grid-down scenario. It is quicker than getting out your machine especially if you are just doing one or two jars, for example sealing up your jar of dry cereal after breakfast. Just look for "vacuum sealing with brake bleeder" and you'll find an assortment of videos.
Thank you so very much for sharing so much more about preserving our food. Thank you!!!!! You take all the fear out of preserving food!! Can't tell you how much your videos have meant. Because of you, I purchased a 23 qt Presto pressure canner and have canned 42 pints of beef and pork roasts so far, and have 15# of grass-fed ground beef in my refrigerator waiting to be canned with some onions (love that short-cut). And everything was canned without my old "fear of pressure canning"! I freeze beans, flour, nuts, & rice in their original packaging to kill larvae that may be in them. . I take them out of freezer & set them out for 24 hours. Then I vacuum seal or place in jars. I have not used oxygen absorbers, but probably should.
Same. I had been doing it with flour for years but never knew that other things need it too until the unfortunate rice incident of 2020 lol. Now almost everything gets it
I do the same thing but when I remove them from the freezer, I set them out for 3 days. I heard that 24 hours is not enough to remove the moisture from the food.
When you freeze food with bugs and or larvae many go into dormancy. As they warm up the eggs hatch out. No different than winter outside. Freezing doesn’t kill.
Thank You, been vaccum sealing, your right on mylar bags not sealing. I use a mini flat curling iron for mylar bags. Your suggestion for 2 strips are great also.
Really, really great tutorial!! So much learned here. I love all the information but I especially love the hack to get the milars to vacuum seal AND most of all the regular mouth vacuum seal attachment. I bought two and neither of them worked. Now I know!! How exciting! Thank you , thank you!!
I start watching you 2 days ago and I've learned so much, your instructions are very good and easy to remember and you made thsi video that is very important for keeping the food for years.Thank you!
😃😃😃😃😃I feel you "really know" what you are talking about. Your demonstrations are spot on and I like that little cheat thing for your freeze dry bags. Wished I could get a food freeze dryer some day but with God's help ,maybe. Thank you miss Rose from the folks in the upland south.
Another fabulous lesson thank you so much. Unlike you I live in 90 to 98% humidity for a lot of the year because I’m in Northwest Florida I learned a lot from you today on how to store my seeds because that is a real problem here even if I put them in the freezer. Please don’t take the time to respond to my comments unless I ask a question because I know your time is so valuable I really do appreciate you I’d love to meet you someday if you ever do any kind of classes I might make a trip to Colorado!
Same here in South Carolina. I use the dessicants all of the time to help with moisture. They work well. I also like to reseal after opening a jar to keep them without oxygen and moisture.
I really do appreciate this video. I’m 73 and grew up on home canned foods. I am getting ready to buy a sealer and bags and both kinds of packs. I have concluded that although my husband and I have no place to store foods long term, we yet need short term emergency foods. And I get pretty tired if finding weevils in the flour or oats or rice. Because I like to make bread too! Thank you!
Perfect timing for this video! I’ve been doubting myself on how to store a couple dry goods. People say flour & rice need to go into the freezer to kill bugs but my mom never did that and if I remove oxygen wouldn’t that kill bugs? So you answered my question! I was thinking of vacuum sealing my flour just as you did so I can stop doubting myself and do it. Wish I had those handy square buckets 😃 I greatly appreciate you!
I have been picking up buckets either cheap or free at the bakery section of supermarkets and grocery stores. Sometimes they are round - sometimes they are rectangular or square. Sometimes they are clean - sometimes you have to clean them. And they are food-grade!
@@BubbleTeaKristin we’re in Alaska, which is US 🤣 Some Fred Meyer (Kroger) are free, others charge 50c. Carrs/Safeway is free. Walmart charges $1.50, but they have been through the dishwasher. I’ve learned to decline the buckets from Freddies that contained garlic butter - the grease was too much. Bottom line: just ask 🤷🏻♀️

Thank you for this greatly informative video! I actually STOPPED the video midway, got up out of comfy chair & tried the double lid method, using my small hand held FoodSaver device on a pint jar of candy…it worked PERFECTLY! I’m planning Christmas gifts in the pretty quilted patterned jars that I found 3 cases of on sale for HALF PRICE!!! I was having trouble getting the little ones to vacuum seal. My original FoodSaver machine from 20 yrs ago died & my new one (on sale @ Sam’s Club online) will arrive next week. Also, your method of tricking the Mylar bags into sealing is positively BRILLIANT!! I hope you include tips such as these in the cookbook you might be writing with your sister. I will be the first to buy it! ♥️. Thank you, again, for ALL the work you both put into these wonderfully educational videos. I’ve watched every single one!

Wow! That was great information. Pam, I recently discovered your channel and I have been binging on it ever since. You truly have a gift of teaching, and I'm blessed that you share so much of your knowledge.
I bought oxygen absorbers and Mylar bags a year ago and have not used them because I was unsure how to keep the rest of the oxygen absorbers useful and how to seal Mylar bags. I have been trying to figure out how to store flour and sugar. Now I can get bigger Mylar bags from Amazon. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Ha! FINALLY I know what I did wrong 😂 I should have figured it out on my own, but sometimes you're just blind. I tend to create an environment that is as hostile to life as possible when packaging food for our long-term storage. So both types of absorbers plus vacuum sealing. Recently, however, I had to do without my vacuum sealer and it felt like every second pack hadn't even formed a hint of vacuum. Yep, those were of course the ones in which the absorbers were next to each other. All the more annoying because I KNOW how O2 absorbers work 🙈 I, dumb, just haven't thought about it. Thanks for the informative video, that was exactly what I needed right now!

I heard that 24 hours is not enough to remove the moisture from the food.
When you freeze food with bugs and or larvae many go into dormancy. As they warm up the eggs hatch out. No different than winter outside. Freezing doesn’t kill.
@@lindajackson618 to kill the newly hatched eggs you freeze again for a second time. Then all the bugs are dead.
Listen and learn from this woman. As a novice I’ve learned so much from her. Research everything.
Thank You, been vaccum sealing, your right on mylar bags not sealing. I use a mini flat curling iron for mylar bags. Your suggestion for 2 strips are great also.
Thank you! I never know which one to use!
Happy to help!
Really, really great tutorial!! So much learned here. I love all the information but I especially love the hack to get the milars to vacuum seal AND most of all the regular mouth vacuum seal attachment. I bought two and neither of them worked. Now I know!! How exciting! Thank you , thank you!!
Your instructions are fanominal. I can imagine you as outstanding when you were teaching. 💛👍🙌
You are amazing! You make it easy and understandable on every video. God Bless you.❤️
You are so easy to listen to. I can not believe how much of this was new to me. Thank you.
Wonderful!! Thanks Pam and Jim for all you do. This was tremendously helpful! As always!🥰
Thanks for the lessons in canning safety and methods! You are amazing!❤
Well Missy, you have just answered the questions I was preparing to ask you today. I'm so very grateful for your continued teaching. Thank you!!!!
You are so welcome!
Wish I had those handy square buckets 😃
I greatly appreciate you!
I have been picking up buckets either cheap or free at the bakery section of supermarkets and grocery stores. Sometimes they are round - sometimes they are rectangular or square. Sometimes they are clean - sometimes you have to clean them. And they are food-grade!
@@DutchAlaskagirl which country do you live? Are these buckets free? 😇 do we just ask?
@@BubbleTeaKristin we’re in Alaska, which is US 🤣
Some Fred Meyer (Kroger) are free, others charge 50c.
Carrs/Safeway is free. Walmart charges $1.50, but they have been through the dishwasher.
I’ve learned to decline the buckets from Freddies that contained garlic butter - the grease was too much.
Bottom line: just ask 🤷🏻♀️
@@BubbleTeaKristin , I just saw that you are in the UK🥰. So many good memories 💕
I remember Tesco and Sainsbury. If they have a bakery department - I’d ask.
@@DutchAlaskagirl ah! Such a good idea 🙂 Thank you!
I have family in the US, and I'm asking them to start stockpiling stuff for me, as my husband and I are planning to move there in 2022.
So... If these buckets are readily available, I will let them know 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks!
THIS is the education I have been wanting for a few years now. I finally feel I heard the distinctions from a scientist expert. Thank You Much.
Rose is THE BOSS...love her❤
I just enjoy your videos and how knowledgeable you are. I use both of these techniques and they work wonderful. Thank You again for your time, and expertise, very comfortable watching your video’s, I know you research and test things constantly. A honor and blessings to have you teach us. ✝️💟 Very appreciative !!!
Thank you!
Wow!!!!! The best presentation I have seen yet on this subject!!!!! You are a pleasure to watch and thank you for the info!!!!! You must be a Teacher!!!
Wow! That was great information. Pam, I recently discovered your channel and I have been binging on it ever since. You truly have a gift of teaching, and I'm blessed that you share so much of your knowledge.
Welcome! So glad you found us.
You are a amazing woman. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me and giving me the information to protect myself and my family. The ability to store food safety is so important in today’s world. I pray Your cup runs over with blessing from the Father in Heaven.
Thank you for another very informative video! You’re the best!
I love how you explain things, it is easy to understand so it will be easy to remember. Love and appreciate your videos.
Thank you!
I’ve been wanting to get oxygen/moisture absorbing packets for my non canned items. This is great timing! Thanks Pam..
Where were you when I was in school? Your explanations & demonstrations are so clear & concise! Maybe more important you make me want to learn! Thank you!
i love this channel! your a great teacher, just the facts- no hype
Glad you think so!
I love the food saver strips for vacuum saver! Wow I never knew!
Love, love, love your channel! You are always so very informative and a great instructor. It's obvious you put a lot of research (and experience) into all your videos, and I feel I can trust your Information which is critical in food preparation and storage. THANK YOU!
wow! what wonderful useful information!! The tip on adding the textured plastic with the mylar bags for vacuum sealing is a golden nugget of information!! Thank you so much!
Hi Pam, I was wondering how long vacuum sealed flour would last. I have been buying extra and freezing but don’t have anymore space in the freezer. Thanks for teaching us how to prep. You are the best!
I have the same question. How long would flour last if vacuum sealed?
She said 1 year in the video
You have made all of this so easy for me. Much love. Can't tell you how appreciative I truly am.
Miss Pam, such an informative video this morning!!! And loved that you showed us how to vaccum seal a mylar bag, too cool!!! And before I even asked, you answered my question about your vaccum sealing jar attachments (did they come with your new machine or not)!!!! You must be getting better at anticipating my questions!!! 😅🤣 Love your channel!!!
She covers ALL the bases.
Have you used vacuum sealer for jars yet? if so does the tube going to the vacuum sealer have a tight fit
Superbly presented. I think you not only give us the most comprehensive information BUT your delivery is so pleasant we are enticed to listen and learn! Thank you
Wow, thank you! Jim
Great information!!
I am happy that you show us how to preserve foods so well. I am Japanese watching your video and doing the things you fully explained . thank you so much and I am so grateful that you have been doing all your work.
Awesome video as usual I learned so much. Thank you Pam and Jim
Thank you Pam for this lesson in food preservation.
