    Tom thanks so much for providing this information. These solar capable battery banks are a really terrific asset for all of us independent filmmakers. Additionally I live in Southern California so having portable back up power that is solar renewable is just a good idea in earthquake country.

    I've had a Goal Zero Yeti 1400 for about a year and a half. I use it all the time. I installed an MPPT charge controller for more efficient solar charging. Such a useful tool for filmmaking, camping, or backup power when hurricanes come haha. Great topic!

    Thank you! I was struggling to find a guide on portable power banks that went in depth and gave relevant examples to what I was looking for. That example you gave with the Aputure lights was perfect. This video is exactly what I was looking for

    Thanks for the idea. I ended up buying 4 Jackery 160's. I use 3 of the Jackerys to power my 3 80W LED lights and the 4th Jackery I use for my bmpcc 4k, ninja V and my phone (about 32W total). Having one Jackery per light makes the lights very portable with no extension cords. I love having AC, regulated 12V and USB all in one battery system - so convenient. The 160 model only weights 3.8 pounds. Having the separate power stations lets me charge them all at the same time which is much faster than charging one really big power station. Interesting tradeoffs.

    Tom! In another video I saw you doing weird stuff when selecting skin matte in Davinci Resolve. Little tip! :) - When making a matte selections on skin, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DENOISE AND/OR BLUR IT!!!!!! with the controls situated just right to the Qualifier tab, in the "Matte Finesse" tab! You are very talented, you should have come to Resolve earlier, it is for professionals, stuff you can't do in FCPX etc.!!! "Denoise" removes littles specks in selection. "Blur" blurs the edges of selection (and edges of noise particles if present). Clean Black and Clean White eats out little particles (black/white - selected/non selected part) by shrinking them - cleaning the selection from debris.
    This is more important in noisy material. Most often you don't want sharp edges in selection when selecting skin tones. Depends on what you do with the selection - if you change the color, then the noise specks in selection have the original color.

      I've been using Resolve for color grading since 2009 and I know about blurring the selections etc. Thanks for the tip and for coming over to check out my video.

      @@TomAntos Very nice! Either way, you are very talented in all your work - shooting, lighting and VFX and more! Good eye for composition and natural flow in VFX! You're an inspiration! Was just wondering, no problem!! Maybe you were just busy in that video, no time to finesse, np!!!! :)

    Tesla makes their own batteries and Panasonic has been their partner until recently when they bought Maxwell Technologies!

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 лет назад

      They also buy batteries since they can't meet their own demands. Check out the headlines from 4 days ago "Tesla Inc. agreed to buy batteries from South Korea’s LG Chem Ltd. to be used in electric vehicles"

    Thanks for this video. Is it possible to daisy chain 2 packs together? Example: Could I plug up one pack to a solar panel and then plug another pack in to the first pack to receive a (relatively}constant charge as its being used? I know that this may be a rare situation but to know that it would be possible to do so would be a plus.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you can. You can plug the ac charger from one to the AC plug of the unit that is connected to the solar panels and it would be charging both.

    Thanks for sharing this video! I'm wondering: Does Maxoak make a solar array? I assume this would be an additional item that would be needed.

    • @TomAntos

      Maxoak doesn't but you can get any of the panels I listed in the description and they will work great with these generators.

    1kw, not a thousand lol. For on location works I throw a little 1.2kw whisper quiet generator for my charging station.

      1000 watts is 1 kilowatt its the same thing and both terms are correct
