How to Clean and Reseal Tile Tub Shower Surround
HTML-код

- In this video, I cleaned and sealed my tile tub surround. The first part of this project is to figure out what order you want to do the steps. The steps I took were removing all of the current silicone, scrubbed the grout clean, re-siliconed, and waterproofed the grout and tile. There are tons of products, so when you pick the one that you want, make sure to fully read the directions. Different tiles call for different products and also the application of the product may differ too. If you have done this project and done it differently, let me know in the comments!

Thanks for watching! 😃
This was incredibly helpful! The step-by-step instructions made the process easy to follow, and I appreciated the tips on which cleaning products to use.
Hello Fixer, this idea isnt really a fix but a playhouse/treehouse build would be awesome content from you. Thanks for the hard work putting out these videos.
Years ago I was at a large flea market and one of the vendors was selling small dental tools, I purchased a set and they have been one of my most useful tools for removing caulking. And for any really close finish work.
Just a suggestion.
Appreciate your videos.
And this is why flea markets are the best! 😁
Thank you for this! I had a company remodel my shower/tub to a walk in shower about a year ago and he said he would come back and seal it this year and next year but he is now in the wind. So I need to do it and thanks to you I now know how! 🙂
I saw a tip on caulking. I’ve always done it like how you did it. But instead cut the angle reverse and push the gun. And your tip gives you your swipe.
I remember watching all the videos when you did this bathroom series, hard to believe it was 3 years ago. I appreciate you showing the sealant part, was never sure how it was supposed to be done. I think the spray is a good choice, seems to be a good oroduct.
I had really good results cleaning by the door rails by simply removing the screws from the rails and taking it apart. Running a straight edge knife along the old caulk made disassembly a breeze, once apart cleaning was easy
You're a brave man applying silicone on camera!
🤣 so many others out there that are so much better at it. As long as it doesn’t leak I am happy. 🤷♂️🤣

You’re always very humble and honest about your skills. Why people are so rude to you I don’t understand 🤷🏼♀️
Awesome video.
Thank you! Got brush ordered!
Looks great! Thank you for sharing!
Another good one, TFS
This is a big help, thank you. Great incentive for my getting it done!
thanks for the video now I know how to do it properly 😊
Absolutely a great job, Matt. 👍🤩
My wife and I recently replaced our entire kitchen. It only took a year. In addition to the 18 new cabinets, we built all new counters. We did not use any grout. We used color matched silicone. There is a learning curve. We did not find much information on RUclips, just a short video from the manufacturer. The key is to tape off every joint (blue tape) and then let the silicon set for about 5 or 10 minutes. (We did the horizontal first then the vertical.) Remove the tape and use a single edge razor to remove any extra silicone. The silicone will not shrink or crack or stain. After a day or so you can tidy things up with the razor.
Good job💫
Excellent job! Now come and do mine.
The Fixer 👍
a green scrub pad does really well to clean up the traces of silicone too.
3 years ago? Wow, time flies.
It does!!
Try a steam machine. It's a great changer cleaning a shower area.
love your videos! when do you plan on doing the back deck?
Great video! So, it’s OK to use grout sealer over the silicon?
That’s a tedious job. I need to do it again on my shower. It’s 31 years old. I need to rip and replace it. Thanks for the good tips!
Did you forget to caulk the top/inside of that niche? Or left it that way on purpose?
Ah we were just talkin about that the other day. Still seems like yesterday
💖
How are you getting the silicone off your fingers???
Using a Stanley knife works fine to remove tha caulking.
After you removed the old stuff, rinsed with water then resealed. Did you seal moisture behind the seal?
That’s why he waited 24 hours for everything to dry. No water left to seal in
Hey Matt,
What’s the name of the battery powered scrubber you used, where can I get one?
Thanks,
Britt
Hey! Sorry, thought I put it in the description. Here it is amzn.to/4aUefhR that's an affiliate link by the way. 😬 Thanks for watching!
Well interesting watch for amateur hour. Some tips for next time...buy some plastic razor blades..removes silicone and doesn't damage surfaces or chip paint on a refinished tub.
If you are going to scape with steel..don't use mild steel as you did as it can mark tile and surfaces..use stainless steel.
Always use silicone relief spray..you need to remove all the silicone.
Always prep / clean surface with rubbing alcohol before applying silicone.
Bathrooms and kitchens..use Type II silicone. It won't yellow over time and has additives to fight mold and mildew.
Never use your finger to apply silicone ..it feathers the edge which will always lead to failure. Invest in silicone tools..Amazon has knock offs for $20
Spray on sealer is only good for a year or two. There are better sealers..that only need one coat..yes they are more expensive in material cost..but a big time saver. I have 2 sealers I use..one is good for 5 years and the other more expensive one is good for 10
I would say thank you for the tips if you didn’t have to add the “amateur hour” comment. But I will respond to your suggestions. No, no thanks, thanks but no thanks, no, it will be fine. Shower is sealed. Make your own video and let me know when it is posted. I’ll watch and give you my feedback. 😘
Ahh no need to be butthurt. Truth can sting..and since you offer a membership..I think you have a choice..be a hack like many on you tube..or be a pro spreading good information. There is no harm..even as a pro saying..this is the best I've found..do you have a better way..I'd like to hear about it. I've been in the construction industry for over 35 years and I'm still learning.
I’m not butthurt 🤣 I also always like to learn and know I am not perfect but I have been a human for 40 years and have learned you don’t earn respect by being disrespectful to start. Your comment wasn’t presented in a “here are some tips that might help people” it was more of a “You suck, I know more than you, let me prove it”. Anyway, thanks for the engagement.
Eminem!!!
I would have softened the silicone first with nail polish remover
lol
I thought that was eminem
Contact Moen, they have a lifetime warranty on finish. Will send you a new spout.
Good to know. 👍🙏
Does your wife know you are using one of the bath towels?
WHY would you ever put caulk over grout??? You didn’t do it on the straight line grout, I have never seen caulk where there is grout other than around a shower door. Very unnecessary.
Corners are known to crack. Water then gets in the cracks. Very common to caulk in all corners. Thought I went over this in the video? 🤔 Thanks for watching!
I agree with Fixer. I do mine too.
If the corners crack, you should re-grout them. You should NEVER apply caulk, silicone or otherwise, over tile grout, except where the tile meets a door unit, window unit, or fixture like a tub, sink, or toilet. Also, silicone caulk is a bad choice just about anywhere. Geeze!
sorry to say it but you do a bad job siliconing... :D the only way to get good results is to use masking tape to establish the borders where you want the silicone to end on both surfaces.. then run the silicone and smooth it with finger untll the border of the masking tape is almost see thru.. them remove the tape and just a slight smoothing with wet finger...
LOL you can get those results with taking your time, and cutting the tip of the tube correctly.
Well I have been doing it on kitchens for so long and I have seen people do it without tape and my results are always better.. I have done over 1000 kitchens with color matched silicone and all customers love it...

When are you coming over to redo it?
Buy me a ticket and I am on my way.. will go see my cousin in Florida also 😀
You should be ashamed to use your wife's electric toothbrush to clean grouts.
My man 🤜
