I love your concept of sharing news and new colours with us in your videos. When your last video came out I immediately ordered a tube of 'ocean grey' and watching this video I know I won't regret it. The colour is beautiful! I'm in Australia so I will have to wait 3 or more weeks for it to arrive and test it myself.
Thank you so much for uploading this! I'm now adding Ocean Grey to my cart on Jackson's - your swatches have made me want it as it looks so much nicer than the digital swatch on Jackson's! Edited to add: I can't add it to my cart as Jackson's have sold out! It's in my favourites instead and I'll wait for it to come back into stock. :) (I think that this is the effect your video has had!).
The way I like to use them (the granulating/separating mixtures) is to wet an area of paper pretty well.. then wet the paint (not soup but enough water to flow decently), stir it well with the brush and then apply it to the wet paper in a random fashion. Dropping the paint in and kind of pushing it around to fill the wet area. They also look really cool applied with a "halo" effect around a subject, then allowed to bleed into the blank wet space.. the lighter pigments bleed further and you can get awesome multicolor effects. Keep stirring as you go back for more, the stirring is key. It evenly distributes the heavy pigments and then allows them time to move on the paper before they dry. Gives a very organic finish with lots of "clumping". Some water added near the end (blooms) give even more as they push the lighter pigments around, or you can go backwards and drop paint instead of water. As I'm sure you noticed, when you apply them with a consistent back and forth brush stroke it pushes the heavier pigments along and you wind up with a gradated wash appearance. I use them almost entirely for backgrounds, since I paint mostly florals and animals, but they are also pretty amazing for skies, rock, etc.
I'll try your way of doing it next time I'm playing with paint and paper :) I really love granulating colors for abstracts backgrounds and for stone, it works so well in both cases.
It is a great colour, quite a lot of possibilities. I was most interested to hear that smooth paper gave more interesting and unique results with granulating colours, I have never heard that before, and rarely ever use a smooth watercolour paper. I shall have to give it a go with what I already have. Your videos are always interesting. Thank you.
Thank you! :) If you have any super granulating color like a mars black or certain primateks ("bloodstone" is particularly lovely, I posted a photo of it here bit.ly/3fYYbS8), it shows really well.
Thanks for this most interesting video (Schmincke, yeahhhhh !). I am expecting this color to arrive from Jackson’s Art sometimes this next week and yes ! I am painting more and more on hot press paper, I can use granulating colors as well as colored pencils in the same mix medias painting and I love it very, very much.
It really is very pretty. That separation is A+! I remember Jean Lurrsen saying she prefers HP for the reasons you stated. I'm honestly not sure myself,I gotta admit HP still intimidates me a little as my water control is not the best yet and I feel like HP has a way of punishing that shortcoming especially hard! :D Thanks for the demo, it's really helpful!
This is a lovely colour. Somehow I was not excited at first about "another grey/black", but this is lovely. It actually could be a great one for the super granulating series.
oh, thank you for swatching this!! It is so beautiful on all papers, but I have to say I like the hot press the best as well lol.... the black and the blue separating from each other so strongly is a little surprising, too. it makes me really curious about what kinds of greens it might mix, I bet they would be gorgeous with something like goethite.
I was just saying the same on your other video of just mixing it. And I wonder if the Mars black would change it somehow or make it more granular. I will try it with both and maybe even switch in a Potter’s pink or ultramarine pink in change out the black. Humm we will see.
The toxicity of PBk6 is probably dependent on source, it can be made with vegetable soot I believe, though it is usually made with some petroleum, tar, or coal material.
Hi! :) The brush I'm using is a Mimik synthetic squirrel hair brush (here : bit.ly/3w1goEo). They are difficult to find in Canada so a friend sent me a set :3
It's the cobalt giving the warning. It's a controlled substance in some areas and poses health risks if misused. Should not be washed down city drains either.

And I hope you'll get your paint without any issues! The waiting and hard enough ;)
I really like you try the color on different paper :-)

It’s such a beautiful colour! I’ll definitely try mixing it or maybe order a tube - not that I need more colours 😅 Thanks for the review!
Gorgeous, I'll happily try mixing this at home now, thank you!
Gorgeous grey! Thanks
I think they have used one of their Cobalt Greens (PG50). It shouldn't be that difficult to mix this color, I think. But still an interesting grey.

Oooooo, greens! 🤔 I'm very curious, now! I'll have to do more mixes with it! (Also thanks again for the tip about hot press!!)
I'd love to see some mixes with this color!
Beautiful!

Thanks for the demo! I’ll mix my own 😬.
Gorgeous

Hi Eve! This is an absolutely gorgeous color. Also, which brush are you using?

@@EveBolt Thank you! 🙏

Neat review!!!

Pretty
It's a lovely colour but seems expensive at £16.50 a tube.
I had a quick go at mixing this and got a close match on first try so I'll pass.
Ooohh 👀👀
Yummy color!
Indeed, it's so pretty!
