Soldiers Stenciled Into Sand for 80th Anniversary of D-Day

  • This art project on a beach in England isn't about building the best sand sculpture. Instead, it's meant to remember those who lost their lives storming a beach to defeat the Nazis in World War II. Eighty soldiers were stenciled into the sand to honor the sacrifices made so long ago. D-Day was the day 150,000 allied soldiers invaded Normandy, France, which was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1944. Inside Edition Digital's Mara Montalbano has more.

Even fewer people know how tough it was for the following two months or so as the fighting moved inland, with the Americans struggling against the bocage terrain and the British and Canadians struggling against the German panzer divisions. A lurking Tiger or Panther tank was nightmare fuel.

Here in America, where the mainland never saw an invasion and people didn’t know about the U-boats lurking off the coast, so much has been forgotten and even more people just don’t care. We should always care. In the rising of the sun and in it’s going down, we remember them.
