There is so much gorgeous on my screen. Bi Kansas girl here! I love this queer KC person representing black royalty as always. The freedom is what everyone should have as a mindset and stop worrying about others, the shame must be destroyed. Don't assimilate disrupt the colonizers mindset. This conversation goes deep for why black Christians are so shameful, we were brainwashed on a land that wasn't even ours. We are our ancestors wildest dreams and we gotta keep going.
As a transgender woman seeing real women talk about gender roles always makes me happy. As long as I could remember I was feminine and people used to always tell me to be more masculine. I made me really not like myself because I couldn’t be masculine enough for everyone. But knowing that someone went through the opposite of what I went through and came out on top really makes me want to do everything I can to be the most authentic version of myself. So thank you ❤
The majority of humanity still aren't sane aka atheist/non political, conscious, honest, knowledgeable, inclusive, secure (financially or gender wise), realistic, positive. Our African ancestors had already put so many people, including you, to shame.
It's a shame that we've been made to feel embarrassed to feed our babies from our bodies. I am a "boob out" type of breastfeeder. My babies don't like their heads being covered to eat in the dark. Who would? LOL. Loved this episode.
I love love love what Sharon, Kekes mom said in the intro about expression and not limiting more negatively perceived emotions like anger. I have not heard a parent encourage or celebrate so to speak their child’s frustration with them directly. Acceptance I’ve heard and I practice it myself but direct encouragement I’ve never seen it. I’m gonna practice that with my child. Her impersonation of her mom was real “I’m glad you sad that…” 😂❤
I am woman of a “certain age.” When I tell you how excited and alive this conversation of love & truth exchange has brought me!! Thank you for keeping each other safe enough to show up!!
One of my fondest memories of breastfeeding in public. My son was about 6 months old and I was in the King of Prussia mall. I was with my girlfriends shopping and I was tired and my son was getting cranky, so I sat at one on the benches and decided to feed him. As I finished feeding him and burping my son, this young man was sitting next to me and looking a little shocked that I was feeding and he didn't even notice. Him and his friend just looked like okay. I loved that they tried to not make it awkward which I know that might be hard as a teenager. I was proud of these young black men, that they just took it in stride.
I so loved this conversation as a black single mother of two girls, one of which is from the queer community. I felt inspired, energized and cheered for, to continue doing me and choosing me and my girls first! Loved it. Thank you Keke, Keke's mum and Janelle for this conversation.
This is such a full circle moment for me, mannnn everything they said & talked about hit home 🏡. So glad the world 🌎 is changing & breaking free from these ridiculous narratives!
i got emotional watching this. i resonate so much as a black queer person that grew up in the church. they get mad when we say this, but representation rlly does matter. janelle's self expression matters and makes impact for those that need it. eff anybody that can't or choose not to understand
Absolutely LOVED this interview and love both you and Janelle Monae. I’m here for all of it. Age of Pleasure is my soundtrack right now. Definitely loving the liberating freedom from the bonds of religion (which really is just patriarchy). Living the one life I KNOW I have to the fullest 🤗🥰. Thank you for this fun break from homework 🤗
When Janelle asked Keke "what brings you pleasure?" Knowing what we know now, the enemy she was laying next to, the suffering in her own home; as if Janelle felt the need to see Keke, even just for a moment. That was such a beautiful interview. And Janelle's skin; LAWD!!!
Keke, you got that Big Grandmother Energy, furrrr realllllll 🙌🏾.... you and Janelle come with so much wisdom--y'all gettin free helps me continue my journey of freedom. Loved this. Love y'all. Thank you.
Both of these women should do music together and also I would love to see them in a movie together! They are both excellent actors! Both amazingly talented ladies
This was the most outstanding interview I ever had to sit in and check out . The honesty was so informal. I give janelle and keke their props for being black women true to them selves.
Janelle Monae has always been the moment! I have been in love with her since I first laid eyes on her at the World Cafe Live in Philly! She was a figure I needed. She made me think and feel seen in so many ways. The Cindy Mayweather alter ego I felt that. Feeling in life, relationships, and to matriarchs I had to be a one way to be seen to be respected to be loved. When I watched lipstick lover I said Janelle is doing it again!!! Always on time, always doing what is true to her!!!
Fantastic video. It is so important that we check our implicit biases. Sometimes, I find myself falling into the trap. But the more aware we make ourselves and try to help guide others, the better.
This has to be my FAVORITE episode so far. And most memorable one!!! I wrote down so many powerful quotes from yall. This was empowering, straight up. You two are wonderful together and individually
I lovvvveeee KeKe DOWWWNNNN!!! Respectability def has a price tag associated with it unfortunately. It also HEAVILY depends on the area of work as well. This was a GREAT convo. I just wish they would speak on how elitism plays into the nuance of respectability politics and all the “isms”.
Where has this podcast been all my life, I’m so glad I stumbled across this bc I didn’t even know Keke had a podcast and that she was talking about these important conversations
Love Love LOVE THIS!!! You both are SOOO Beautiful and speak on this subject so eloquently, and from a real place of understanding. Thank you for this!
I got a 1990 Toyota pick up that I bought in 2010 the head gasket blew in the same year. I rebuilt the head and the car is still running till this day. Those trucks are absolutely worth rebuilding now granted I do think I probably didn’t let some areas cure as good, but it’s still hanging in there so I don’t know no blown head gasket this day so I don’t know. Apparently I did something right even though it’s got a few oil leaks some areas.
I absolutely LOVE this episode, this conversation, KeKe, Janelle and all the tings 💚💚Ms.Sharon as well! We need to have this conversation more often!!!🔥🔥💚
janelle is just like me fr fr. i feel so seen!!! so many moments i had to pause and just reflect on what was said because so much resonated. this was a wonderful conversation!
I know I’m late to watching this but I’ve been struggling to come out about being attracted to women and my family will not be okay with it. But this video just makes me feel so comfortable.
Thank Gaia Janelle finally felt safe enough to make Age of Pleasure and Lipstick Lover. It is so not for the male gaze, and that is entirely exciting to me.
I love your show kee ❤❤❤ you putting beautiful knowledge out love it.... Janelle Monáe ❤❤❤❤is also full of knowledgeable gems, I'm so proud of you both keep the good work up...
Such a beautiful nuanced conversation ❤ THANK YAAALLLL LIKE THANK YALL FOR REALLLLLL SENDING BLESSINGS EVERYBODY SAY LOOOOOOVVVVEEE 💖 and periodt as a nonbinary AFAB teacher who doesn’t shave their armpits and has a mustache, I really tell the kids “Hair is a natural part of life, this is just how mine looks” 😂. We just have to keep promoting radical grace and keep moving towards life-giving energy ❤️🔥
Wow Keke you're hitting bulls eyes back to back with your points. I so Concur and because I'm from Generation X I've always known what you're speaking of and had to stand in it even when I was alone and still to this day. Another thing is we don't stay the same you might change at one point in your life path you may be one way and then 20 years 10 years 3 years down the line you change. You know I'm one minute I was heterosexual then bisexual then asexual and individuals think that an individual cannot change and you're saying wait a minute I'm identifying myself and defining myself not you or your group and I will and have changed however people's lack of spiritual growth and maturity emotional growth and maturity and intellectual growth and maturity will allow them to dumb themselves down and oppress other individuals who have maturity in those areas and Thrive and strive to grow Beyond those identifying boxes
I left Christinaity recently. I decided to go back to my Ayumi when i 17. I was free spirit girl now i am 47. Back to that❤️💕. Women was in luttle box... We finally express our feeling by speaking and dance or whatever that ways

I teared up . As a black queer woman, I felt so seen in this episode. Love these queens so much 💕
MANY times!! Teared up so muchhh!!
Keke, your mom is amazing! She really proves that a lot of ideas people are calling new aren't new. They've always been here.
I didn’t want this episode to end 😩 I would love to be a fly on the wall for all of their conversations
No for reeeal!!
SAME🥰
Their mutual joy and appreciation for each other is AMAZING
What a wonderful guest! Janelle dropped one of the best albums this year 😍

Can we just chill together! I could listen this on repeat. I love you both as Black peoples embracing your humanity and pleasure and desires.
I love hearing Janelle Monae talk about her music. She's such an inspiring artist and The Age of Pleasure is a great album!
Her best. I was excited that she got the Grammy nod for this masterwork.
