Google Pixel 3a / 3a XL: How to Factory Reset (Forgot Password, Pin Code, Swipe, etc)

I show you factory reset (using hard keys) the Google Pixel 3a or 3a XL back to original settings. Don't forget you will lose ALL DATA by this so if you have anything important hopefully you backed up.
You usually want to do a factory reset if you want a clean slate as maybe you had some kind of issue, or you want to sell your phone, or perhaps you forgot your password. Hope this helps.

I bought a pixel 3 on eBay but it's asking for a pin code. If I factory reset it Will I be able to set it up even if the previous owners account wasn't removed first? I know Google has some anti theft protection built in where it will ask for your account used to setup the phone the first time if it wasn't removed before doing a factory reset.

Its best to do factory reset from the settings menu (settings/System/Advanced/Reset Options). If you don't use this method, the phone will request the username and password of the last account associated with the phone. Google implemented this security feature to prevent people from reselling stolen phones.

hello, thank you for the informative, clear video -
However: I got a "repeated message of "E: can't send spi message; Try again - (repeated about 20 times) then followed by "data wipe complete." at the very end.
SO: does that mean that the data was INDEED ACTUALLY wiped out?
OR
do I need to "try again"?

Did the exact same thing you did, the Wipe data/factory reset then scrolled to factory reset and completed the data wipe. What do I do then? You don’t say. When I go back after rebooting it still isn’t back to out of the box feel because it knows it’s been reset and needs my old gmail info.

This would be useful, but half of my problem is that the screen doesn't display anything. The phone is on because I can feel the vibrations, but the screen can't turn on/light up. Is there a way to reset it before I send it in to get fixed?

This doesn't actually work if there's an account on the phone prior. All this does is wipe the data, won't help you if you can't get in.

You need to do a forced restart then directly after u need to press the buttons to get into the recovery mode which will bypass ur pin/password.

Don't listen to this crap. Do this:
1) Open your phone's Settings app.
2) Tap System And then Advanced And then Reset options.
3) Tap Erase all data (factory reset) And then Reset phone. If needed, enter your PIN, pattern, or password.
4) To erase all data from your phone's internal storage, tap Erase everything.
5) When your phone has finished erasing, pick the option to restart.
6) Set up your phone and restore your backed-up data
