Considering the whole "doing the right thing" theme of the last few scenes we saw Robotnik and Shadow in, I'd think that Shadow may have tried to save Ivo in the last moments, or the Eclipse Cannon had escape pods.
I dont think it had since Gerald wanted to die with the entire planet and even if it had Eggman didnt have enough times. But Shadow saving him with Chaos control is likely
Stone isn’t evil. He’s just besotted with Ivo and acts willingly as his henchman. I think it’s far more likely we see Stone as a good/neutral guy that doesn’t cause trouble for Team Sonic.
I don't know how Eggman could've survived the explosion at the end of the movie. It just felt like a sendoff, but if they want to make it look like he died/sacrificed himself and bring him back in the fourth movie (if Carrey does return) then I'm down for that. I don't know how he could've survived though. I'd love it if he did but we'll see.
I have to agree, as the movie producers have said they have no intention of recasting the role of Dr. Robotnik, so whether Robotnik survived or not will depend on whether or not Jim will return for Sonic 4. But then again, Sonic, as a series, has a good list of villains that can be used in place of Robotnik (as we have villains like the Deadly Six, the Hard-Boiled Heavies, Infinite, Sage, in fact, they can even use the IDW Comics villains like Dr. Starline, Clutch the Opossum, and Surge the Tenrec).

Shadow in the movie and in general is fucking op, I’m pretty sad how they changed the shadow-maria story and how shadow realize what maria wanted, the real reason shadow existed was to help get a cure for maria and also maria sacrificed herself to help shadow, but still a very good movie, I cried
I'm not entirely sure what the plot of the next movie is, but Shadow's new 100% space origin confirms that Black Arms is an idea for the future at some point, it's a shame to lose the eclipse cannon for that purpose. As for the doctor, if Jim Carrey decides to leave the series, they can keep using Eggman this time 100% CGI and ignore the differences or use the eclipse cannon radiation as an excuse, the possibilities are endless.
Honestly, Jim Carry might return in probably sonic 5. In sonic 4, agent stone is on his revenge arc, thus creating metal sonic since stone has PTSD with trusting living beings
Because of how dramatic Robotnik’s sacrifice scene was, especially his goodbye message to Stone, I feel like it would lose its dramatic weight if Robotnik were to come back. I think that Stone should become the new Eggman and be the one to have built the Metal Sonic army. Maybe if they make a Sonic generations adaptation they can bring in a past alternate timeline version of Robotnik, who would then be returned to his proper timeline by the end. I just think that death scenes should mean something.
I don’t necessarily disagree, but a part of me thinks it’s a hilarious idea that robotnik keeps looking like he’s definitely died but somehow still lives every time.

Walters saying “no one could have survived that crash” but they don’t find a body, is basically movie shorthand for “he’s alive.” But, Jim Carrey eccentriccness aside, the death scene in Sonic 3 was, for the most part, played seriously, as if this was happening for real. It was emotional and intense. And there is no indication whatsoever that Robotnik survived in sonic 3. There is no feasible way he could have. Yes, Shadow survived, but he is the ultimate life form, and therefore is way more durable than Robotnik, so his survival does not at all mean Robotnik survived. As a general storytelling rule, death scenes like the one in sonic 3 have to be permanent so it feels like there are real stakes in the story world so the audience can be invested in the conflict.

I could see him returning, Stone being thrilled because Robotnik confessed his true love for him and Robotnik acting like it never happened or hilariously downplaying it. I think with Sonic the serious moments and weight don’t have to come from keeping characters dead. I love Sonic and when it’s serious I love it even better, but it’s not Lord of the Rings. We don’t really need heavy deaths to carry the emotional weight of a story centered around Sonic the Hedgehog. Just my opinion, not saying you’re wrong or anything. One could argue Tom not being killed “killed the emotional weight” of that scene but I was actually so relieved he was kept alive.

I really hope that Jim Carrey comes back in Sonic 4 and I hope Robotnik is allive after that explosion just like Shadow. I also have one theory. In Sonic 4 Agent Stone thinks he is dead and makes Metal Sonic, but unfortunetly Metal Sonic tries to attack Sonic and his friends and then Robotnik comes back in one moment to help Sonic and his team stop Metal Sonic and after that Agent Stone feels sorry for it and Robotnik and Agent Stone live together until the end. Guys, I have a theory. A GAME THEORY! ||Warning, dont read this if you haven’t watched the movie yet… if you didnt, why are you even here|| So since eggman is thought to be dead, if he REALLY IS, my theory is is that either one, which I believe the most, eggman, far beyond any of this, already created METAL SONIC, as to rival against sonic, but better in all ways. He kept metal sonic either sitting in one of the tubes, or was deadtivated in a old lab, or was already activated, watching the whole thing. As when he discovered about his death, like in the comics… he decided to take over the empire for EGGMAN, to keep his legacy. As he cloned himself, and upgraded himself to NEO METAL SONIC. As though, his clones are far more weaker. One concept of this, is that throughout the movie, there would be different versions of metal sonic, stronger than the last. The following being Robot sonic, (the weakest one, probaly.), Prototype metal, CD metal, Mecha sonic, Mecha sonic MKII, and more versions that even I dont know of. But what im hoping most of, is possibly, if my theory is right, and that the original metal will be taking over the eggman empire, that he will be NEO metal sonic, and possibly take everyone’s bio data, and turn into a weaker version of Metal overlord. My other theory, which is boring. Is that for some strange reason, GUN has stolen eggmans technology, and used clones of metal to take down sonic, as they Probaly believed he still poses a threat, as because they thought he was helping eggman, to make the laser. And that they also believe he is the center of all threats that happened on earth. This theory makes the best sense, but it seems boring to me. The first one seemed more of a cool concept, since it would show alot of references. But, most likely by any chance, AMY came from mobius. Or sonic’s original home, which he was raised by longclaw. Also, sorry, in one of the comics, eggman didnt really die. He just lost eggman during the war, as eggman drowned in amnesia, and turned to a version of himself called the tinkerer.

I think it’s possible we may get multiple Eggmen in the next film. I could be reaching pretty hard here, but Metal Sonic’s eyes are not correct. In fact, Sonic even calls this out saying it’s difficult to match perfection. What if this is Metal Sonic from the games? Sent by Mike Pollock’s Eggman.
Theory: Agent Stone becomes the Dr. Robotnik to honor Ivo's, with him now copying Ivo's final look and utilizing everything GUN took away from Robotnik.
I can’t recall who suggested it, but one guy thinks that in order to bring back Eggman should Jim Carry truly retires is to have him be fully CGI, especially if they wanna make the movies fully animated going forward. I mean, take something out of the Archie books by having this Eggman be a robot.
I think it was a nuclear explosion. The eclipse canon is ridiculously powerful. A human couldn't survive that. Shadow had chaos energy in his body and was barely alive himself. He seemed to he grappling where he was and not expecting to be alive. Notice that the explosion barely missed earth. Shadow was pushing it away to the very end, and Eggman was stablizing it the whole time. Also there was death flags flapping around this man. Notice the emotional goodbye. "Last chance to do something good" line from Shadow. The focus on him and his grandfather. The character arc. It's the perfect end. My guess is that the nuclear explosion some how brought in Amy, a hero from elsewhere, and her villains. After Metal the movies may focus on threats in other dimensions and such. Mephiles, Black Arms, Chaos, Metal Overlord. They didn't want to fit Robotnik in these plots. How Metal was created, we don't know. Also c'mon, 2/3 characters surviving from seemingly dying? I can get Shadow, but Robotnik? We can move on to another villain.
Here’s what he should do don’t rely on eggman all the time but keep him as a looming threat where he can return if Jim Carrey chooses to and when he’s that old in the future he can end it
At the same time I want him back but I also don't. His death scene was so bittersweet, his message to Stone made me cry. But at the same time I really want to see him again. He's such a huge part of these movies, it's hard to imagine them without him.
I like to imagine he gets his red eyes like how they looked in the old cartoons do to suffering from the explosion a little bit before shadow teleported them out and has to get cybernetic upgrades to live on, where he truly becomes one with his machines. For remember Jim Carrey wants the character to change and evolve throughout the movies.
With blackholes they go somewhere. I think Eggman went Planet Morbius. Where he fulfilled dream of taking a world. He creates animal robots and enslaves everyone. But there is a resistance, with Amy a part of it. Eggman creates metal sonics and tells them to get sonic because he still hates him. Amy was tasked with to save sonic and get him and his team to save her planet.

They didn't explain how he survived Sonic 2's ending, so it stands to reason that he'll return in Sonic 4 as well. It's one of those campy video game kinda tropes; The bad guy always gets defeated but comes back in the next game, sometimes explained but most often not really. It's always funny imo when a movie/game just brushes off the "death" from the previous installment.
I feel like Eggman’s fate here is the writers way of writing him an ending just in case Carry doesn’t want to come back. But if he does, it will seem par for the course with the other events Eggman has survived in the games

Spoilers Alert! 🚨 Think about Metal Sonic appearance at the end not a mention a small army of him where did MS come from? If Eggman built him but when? Look like he didn’t have any time during the movie’s plot and before so he looks like he hasn’t been building nothing for awhile.

It would be cool if metal sonic goes neo, and stays his own thing instead of robotniks creation. And the fact that the other metals are silver while the first one is blue is telling me we might get metal overlord next movie. Also the next game to be remastered is Heroes so if that releases alongside movie 4 with metal sonic as a villain we would get the year of metal, which is fair enough considering that was his last sonic game where he has some sort of presence.

They came from the future and where made by someone following his footsteps and will take the eggman mantle. Or 3 they where made by an eggman from another universe. What i think has happend is that explosion was actually one big chaos control. Tellaporting eggman to another planet. Id bet that planet is mobius. Eggman conquered it with his army of metal sonics and has now sent them to attack sonic as we saw. But amy who is fighting for her planets freedom followed hoping that anyone eggman would go out of their way to attack would be able to help her planet.
honestly i hope he stays dead. it would completely ruin the whole point of his death in the third movie if he survived. he stayed there BY CHOICE in order to stabilize the arc with shadow, reversing his own vengeful grandfathers work, COMPLETELY aware that it would ending up killing him and shadow. he willingly went down in order to save the planet as he finally realized he HAD a friend and he HAD a chance of redemption, which was to sacrifice himself.

The movie pretty much confirmed Stone as being in love with Ivo. And it was sweet that his last words before his apparent death was that he’s saving the world _for Stone._ It was both as close to a declaration of reciprocal love from Ivo (as much as he’s capable of) and the most the movie could push in a PG film for kids without being inappropriate. As a gay man, I enjoy the subtext. I mean, Ivo himself in the movie states he has no luck with either gender. But I don’t want or think it should be blatantly stated. It’s not necessary. And a theme that shouldn’t be a focal point in a video game movie for kids.

Shadow was in his super form and also had his inhibator rings off so it makes sense that he survived. Eggman however is totally dead. However there is another way he can come back. Sonic CD is about time travel. Sonic 4 is obviously gonna be based on Sonic CD. Time travel creates alternate universes, paradoxes, loopholes etc. What if in another universe, eggman killed sonic and survived. And somehow the world gets destroyed and turns into silver's world from sonic 06. Since the world is messed up eggman decides to travel to a new world to concur it. This also causes amy to come in. In Sonic 4 Agent Stone thinks he is dead and makes Metal Sonic, but unfortunetly Metal Sonic tries to attack Sonic and his friends and then Robotnik comes back in one moment to help Sonic and his team stop Metal Sonic and after that Agent Stone feels sorry for it and Robotnik and Agent Stone live together until the end. That's just the theory, but who knows what could happen.

Guys, I have a theory. A GAME THEORY!
||Warning, dont read this if you haven’t watched the movie yet… if you didnt, why are you even here||
So since eggman is thought to be dead, if he REALLY IS, my theory is is that either one, which I believe the most, eggman, far beyond any of this, already created METAL SONIC, as to rival against sonic, but better in all ways. He kept metal sonic either sitting in one of the tubes, or was deadtivated in a old lab, or was already activated, watching the whole thing. As when he discovered about his death, like in the comics… he decided to take over the empire for EGGMAN, to keep his legacy. As he cloned himself, and upgraded himself to NEO METAL SONIC. As though, his clones are far more weaker. One concept of this, is that throughout the movie, there would be different versions of metal sonic, stronger than the last. The following being Robot sonic, (the weakest one, probaly.), Prototype metal, CD metal, Mecha sonic, Mecha sonic MKII, and more versions that even I dont know of. But what im hoping most of, is possibly, if my theory is right, and that the original metal will be taking over the eggman empire, that he will be NEO metal sonic, and possibly take everyone’s bio data, and turn into a weaker version of Metal overlord.
My other theory, which is boring. Is that for some strange reason, GUN has stolen eggmans technology, and used clones of metal to take down sonic, as they Probaly believed he still poses a threat, as because they thought he was helping eggman, to make the laser. And that they also believe he is the center of all threats that happened on earth. This theory makes the best sense, but it seems boring to me. The first one seemed more of a cool concept, since it would show alot of references. But, most likely by any chance, AMY came from mobius. Or sonic’s original home, which he was raised by longclaw. I think it was a nuclear explosion. The eclipse canon is ridiculously powerful. A human couldn't survive that. Shadow had chaos energy in his body and was barely alive himself. He seemed to he grappling where he was and not expecting to be alive. Notice that the explosion barely missed earth. Shadow was pushing it away to the very end, and Eggman was stablizing it the whole time.
Also there was death flags flapping around this man. Notice the emotional goodbye. "Last chance to do something good" line from Shadow. The focus on him and his grandfather. The character arc. It's the perfect end. My guess is that the nuclear explosion some how brought in Amy, a hero from elsewhere, and her villains. After Metal the movies may focus on threats in other dimensions and such. Mephiles, Black Arms, Chaos, Metal Overlord. They didn't want to fit Robotnik in these plots. How Metal was created, we don't know.
Also c'mon, 2/3 characters surviving from seemingly dying? I can get Shadow, but Robotnik? We can move on to another villain.

I dont think Robotnik is dead. Either Shadow the Hedgehog teleported him to safety offscreen or he escapes some other way.
I like to imagine he gets his red eyes like how they looked in the old cartoons do to suffering from the explosion a little bit before shadow teleported them out and has to get cybernetic upgrades to live on, where he truly becomes one with his machines. For remember Jim Carrey wants the character to change and evolve throughout the movies.

But there is a resistance, with Amy a part of it. Eggman creates metal sonics and tells them to get sonic because he still hates him. Amy was tasked with to save sonic and get him and his team to save her planet.
They kill him off every ending n case Jim decides not to return. I hope he does return, and the writers give an outlandish reason for his return 😂

They didn't explain how he survived Sonic 2's ending, so it stands to reason that he'll return in Sonic 4 as well. It's one of those campy video game kinda tropes; The bad guy always gets defeated but comes back in the next game, sometimes explained but most often not really. It's always funny imo when a movie/game just brushes off the "death" from the previous installment.
I feel like Eggman’s fate here is the writers way of writing him an ending just in case Carry doesn’t want to come back. But if he does, it will seem par for the course with the other events Eggman has survived in the games

Some how eggman has to be back. Since we have the metal sonics in the mid credit scene. Someone had to make them. Option one. Eggman survived. Option 2. They came from the future and where made by someone following his footsteps and will take the eggman mantle. Or 3 they where made by an eggman from another universe.
What i think has happend is that explosion was actually one big chaos control. Tellaporting eggman to another planet. Id bet that planet is mobius. Eggman conquered it with his army of metal sonics and has now sent them to attack sonic as we saw. But amy who is fighting for her planets freedom followed hoping that anyone eggman would go out of their way to attack would be able to help her planet.
honestly i hope he stays dead. it would completely ruin the whole point of his death in the third movie if he survived. he stayed there BY CHOICE in order to stabilize the arc with shadow, reversing his own vengeful grandfathers work, COMPLETELY aware that it would ending up killing him and shadow. he willingly went down in order to save the planet as he finally realized he HAD a friend and he HAD a chance of redemption, which was to sacrifice himself.

And it was sweet that his last words before his apparent death was that he’s saving the world _for Stone._
It was both as close to a declaration of reciprocal love from Ivo (as much as he’s capable of) and the most the movie could push in a PG film for kids without being inappropriate.
As a gay man, I enjoy the subtext. I mean, Ivo himself in the movie states he has no luck with either gender. But I don’t want or think it should be blatantly stated. It’s not necessary. And a theme that shouldn’t be a focal point in a video game movie for kids.

Shadow was in his super form and also had his inhibator rings off so it makes sense that he survived. Eggman however is totally dead. However there is another way he can come back. Sonic CD is about time travel. Sonic 4 is obviously gonna be based on Sonic CD. Time travel creates alternate universes, paradoxes, loopholes etc. What if in another universe, eggman killed sonic and survived. And somehow the world gets destroyed and turns into silver's world from sonic 06. Since the world is messed up eggman decides to travel to a new world to concur it. This also causes amy to come in. Is that too much of a stretch?
Don’t forget the Explosion used Chaos Energy. So Eggman getting tossed through the timeline is a possibility
