  • Experimental Silver Cell Success! How Pure Is It? #silver #999 #experiment #science #chemistry
I ran over 100 ounces of silver through the experimental #silver cell and it is time to see if our silver is pure. I put 925 #sterling along with some lower purity silver into the cell to be purified in one method. I show two methods of testing for purity. #XRF testing along with dissolution testing. Both tests produced exciting #999 results!
I show in this video how the cell is cleaned out and how you are able to reuse the solutions back into the cell after some repurification. I also set up a new #1 Silver Cell. Using #electrochemistry with silver nitrate solution, you can refine impure silver into pure silver in one process.

You could also use this cathode system to separate out platinum group metals from gold and silver.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be doing some research into that.

I like your setup! I'm curious why you didn't use impure silver shot to grow your pure silver crystals?

Thanks, sometimes I do use shot but I found that melting your silver into an anode bar is faster to dissolve in the cell.

Great Vid, thank you for posting your set-up and its operation...very clean and professional! Are you running your horsemen within the fume hood?

It's not needed to run the cathode in a fume hood.

Great channel Anthony! Im kind of getting inspired to set up a lab in my barn. Where do you find the sterling silver to start the process?

Thank you! You should do it! My wife goes to estate sales, and I buy at online auctions. But the best way is just get started refining and tell people what your up to. You'll be suprised to know that most people have old jewelry they would take a few bucks for.

I really enjoy your videos! Two questions: where can I buy an aspirator bottle? None on Amazon seem to have the large mouth opening on bottom. All the stainless steel I have found is magnetic. Does that mean they will corrode (like the s/steel cyber truck)?

Lol about Elon's truck! Yes, it will corrode. You can use it and it will work. It isn't a deal breaker if it is all you have. Run lower voltage to lesson the corrosion. If you get a little iron it will simple dissolve into solution and then I rinse the silver crystals in HCL to remove any residual. I have been using the smaller neck (19/26) aspirator bottle for a couple months and it has worked very well. I think the only draw back I am testing is a small reduction in output but overall it works just about the same as my original bottle and it saves on dacron filters!
      Thanks so much for watching!

Sorry meant to say rinse in sulfuric acid. Do not rinse silver in HCL.

Where do I find the anode glass that you are using and how much does the essay machine cost I've been doing silver refining for about a year now and I really want to know more about the silver plated items melted down so you refine all the metals in it through electrolytic cells

It's called an aspirator bottle and I buy mine on amazon. I have been working on a video that shows the complete process. It has been taking longer than I hoped but it will be out fairly soon. Thanks so much for watching!

What size aspirate bottle are you using a 2L ?

OK, elecrolyte was clear, repurification has to give 9999... 🙂 How about making just solid silver anode bar instead of using shot or crystals for final phase... could be rolled to be thiner a bit (bigger surface). I know, will be very slow, but I am not in a hurry, silver is not in a hurry... God bless...

Solid silver anode should give the best results for 9999 I would think! Slow and steady is the way! I think I heard that somewhere…. Thanks Fran!

These videos have confirmed that it is not easy whatsoever to recover silver from silver plated metals. I guess if it was easy, anyone could do it.

You’re not wrong, but I will be showing soon how with this set up, it actually can be easier after the initial investment is made and all the parts are in place. To do it right just takes a little patience.
      Thanks so much for watching!
