If you go into a 50/50 ball like you don't care if you die, the rest of the 50/50 balls for the remainder of the match are now 70/30 balls if your favor. He attacks the ball, it's your fault if you are collateral dmg. His role was Defender/Enforcer. The enforcer job is to make sure the other team plays timid. Hockey teams also have enforcers. When a sport is dangerous the refs don't see everything so the enforcer makes sure the dirty player stops playing dirty.
