  • A lively conversation held Oct. 27, 2022 in the Ransom Center's Prothro Theater in Austin, Texas, between photographer Laura Wilson and Charles “Chip” McGrath, former editor of "The New York Times Book Review," former deputy editor of "The New Yorker," and contributing writer at "The New York Times," about Wilson’s photographic portraits on view at the Ransom Center through Jan. 1, 2023.

    Laura Wilson has photographed some of the most influential writers of our time, and visitors can see a selection of her powerful portraits documenting award-winning writers immersed in their personal settings. The Writers: Portraits by Laura Wilson is an exhibition drawn from her book, The Writers: Portraits (Yale University Press, 2022), which has an introduction written by McGrath and features stunning photographic portraits of authors such as J. M. Coetzee, Jim Crace, Rachel Cusk, Edwidge Danticat, Louise Erdrich, Carlos Fuentes, Gabriel García Márquez, Tim O'Brien, Zadie Smith, and Tom Stoppard, and many others. Wilson has published six books of photographs and text including "Avedon at Work," "Grit and Glory," "That Day: Picture in the American West," and "From Rodin to Plensa."
