I lived just outside Bude in the mid 1960s and seeing the pool on the beach we were made to run through it in the winter and the sea on our cross country runs then had to run back to school in Stratton with blue legs and a teacher in tow,
That is a wonderful place for a holiday and walk around and shops and the beach and have a swim the beach huts are nice and bright and seeing the dogs having fun running round in the sea and the houses colourful as well as the view thanks for showing us around
I holidayed in Bude with my parents when I was fourteen years old, that was 53 years ago and I haven’t been back since so it was nice to see the sights I remember like the swimming pool. I have a photograph of me swimming in it during that visit. We stayed at a hotel on the opposite side of the bay from the canal you walked along. It was on Summerleaze Cresent I think the Beach Hotel, it may not have been called that back then.
Shame both of budes beaches are ruined by irresponsible dog owners disobeying the beach rules and still letting their dogs run free and crap all over the place why bother putting signs up?😒
I often go to Bude for the day when I'm down Devon or Cornwall. It's not my favourite place in Cornwall but when you've been a few times you appreciate it more. The beach is fantastic. No St Ives or Fowey but I just like the place.
Lots of things! Beach Activities: Bude boasts several beautiful sandy beaches, including Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach. You can relax on the sand, swim in the sea, or try your hand at activities like surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Coastal Walks: The town is situated along the South West Coast Path, providing breathtaking views of the coastline. You can enjoy scenic walks along the cliffs, exploring hidden coves and rock formations. Bude Sea Pool: This semi-natural pool located on Summerleaze Beach is a unique attraction. It's filled with seawater during high tide and provides a safe and sheltered environment for swimming and relaxing. Canal and Harbour: Bude Canal and Harbour offer opportunities for leisurely walks, boat trips, and fishing. You can rent rowing boats or pedal boats to explore the canal and its surroundings. Bude Castle and Heritage Centre: Explore Bude's history and culture at the Bude Castle and Heritage Centre. It offers exhibitions, workshops, and events that delve into the town's past. Surfing and Watersports: Bude is known for its great surfing conditions, making it a popular destination for surf enthusiasts of all skill levels. You can take lessons or rent equipment from local surf schools. Bude Bike Hire: Rent a bicycle and explore the area on two wheels. There are cycling routes that take you through scenic landscapes and along the coast. Tamar Lakes: Located a short drive from Bude, Tamar Lakes offer opportunities for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing. The surrounding trails are also great for walking and picnicking. Beachcombing and Rockpooling: Exploring the tide pools and rocky shores can be a rewarding experience for families and nature enthusiasts. You might spot various marine creatures and colorful shells. Eating and Shopping: Bude has a range of cafes, restaurants, and local shops where you can enjoy Cornish cuisine, fresh seafood, and browse for souvenirs. Golfing: Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club offers a challenging links course with stunning coastal views, making it an attractive option for golfers. Bude Farmers' and Craft Market: If you're visiting on a Friday or Saturday, you can explore the local market for fresh produce, artisan crafts, and unique gifts.
I was very surprised to see a canal and wondered why on earth there would be one. A quick search and I found this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bude_Canal. Maybe worth a read for viewers? Very unusual. Enjoyed the walk as always. Thanks.
