- I have always loved trout fishing, so it was really only a matter of time before I made these small balsa wood crankbaits. What better way to celebrate these beautiful fish than to make these little brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout fishing lures! I think these will be just perfect for catching trout in lakes and slower moving rivers. Join me for another handmade wooden fishing lure build!

👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏 l like the rainbow as well for my seatrouts
Thanks!
Awesome! I've been a fly fisher for over 55 years, and have tied my own flies since the late 70's. Trust me... I'm not old LOL. Your channel is one of the few bait builders I've subscribed to. My intent is to use materials like balsa and foams to make crank style baits I can use with a fly rod. Ummm... no, I'm not using treble hooks; most likely a single hook on the tail. Great channel, glad I stumbled upon it.
Thank you sir! I appreciate your support and will do my best to keep this channel interesting. Good luck with your balsa baits!
Great looking lures!! Thank you for the videos my friend!! :)
Glad you like them!
Thanks for the video. Yeah lure action follow up would be an awesome addition to the video. Great job man. Much appreciated!
Thanks for your feedback, I will definitely try to figure out how to make that happen.
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen so far if you want to make a brown trout lure. Very well explained step by step. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Javier, I really appreciate your support!
@@zimmtex how much do you charge to make some of those
@@benjieaston2447 Right now I'm focused on making these videos and so I don't currently sell lures. I will let you know if that changes. Thanks for your interest!
New Subscriber here. You do beauty work brother. Also, no hyper music, no yapping, just lure talk. BRILLIANT! Thanks man. Regards,Cam of Ontario. Also…. NICE trout finish! I love the dotted yellow/brown. Very nice finish, but the trout was especially stunning. Well done bro.
Welcome to the channel! I appreciate your kind words and support!
Those little bait vices you use for painting are the solution to my problem right now!
Yes, they are very handy. Thanks for watching!
Very Very Good Job. Congratulations .
Thank you Adrian!
Great work! Those lures look awesome!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
You shouldve put the weight in at the same time as the wireharness before you put in the bakingsoda and superglue
Since I've never made these before, I wasn't sure how much lead I would need so I finished up the body first. Next time I make some more of these I will have a better idea of weight needed and can put the weight in with the wire. Thanks for watching!
I was not sure where you were going with all the colors and dots but the results are spot on!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Nicely done as always ☺️ next time remember to cut the hardware slot while the lure is still square - easier and more accurate for symmetrical cut !!
Thanks for the tip!
awesome little trout lures. i made a batch years ago i might have to go get some balsa and make another batch.
Ur videos are very inspiring keep up the great work
Thanks! I'm hoping to make some more trout lures soon!
love the paintjob on the brooktrouts!
Thanks!
Another good one. Looks great. A small chatter blade might be interesting 👍
Agreed! I caught an 18"ish rainbow on one of these over the summer. Got it on another video 'Testing Handmade Crankbaits on Trout' if you haven't seen it. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful lures mate!
I'm glad you like them!
They would be great in Ireland here the brown trout would love them😊👍good job
I'd just love one or 2 of them brilliant Job
Thank you! I've caught a few trout with these. Thanks for your interest!
Excelente trabajo, eres una gran influencia para hacer mis señuelos.
Thanks, good luck with your lures!
So good kreatif....
Thank you!
Ok yes from Jeddah Saudi Arabia for my friends
Thanks, and welcome!
Meus parabéns pelo seu trabalho esta isca artificial artesanal ficou show de bola.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I have found that useing a paper finger nail file that you can buy at big box stores like 12 for about $1.50 they are the perfect size for thrue wire rigs. The best thing on balsa they last forever.
Great tip! Thanks for watching!
Great video AGAIN! Only thing missing the lure test
Thank you for watching! I have been thinking about getting a small pool just for swim tests.
Freaking awesome ure the master 🙏
Thanks!
Amazing👍👍👍
Thank you for watching all my videos!

@@boytipakmoto1288 Welcome to the channel, glad to have you here!
Nice vid
I always want to see how your lure swim
Hope you can make a swim test on every vid
Thanks
I am definitely wanting to get a test pool so that I can do that. Great suggestion! Check out my newest video; I was able to test these small crankbaits in a clear water lake.
Just found your channel. Amazing work! My favorite balsa bait for trout is the 3 1/2" rapala original floater. The biggest problem I found with them is they only have 2 hooks (wish they had 3). Do you ever make lures to sell?
Welcome to the channel! Maybe you should make your own lure; its pretty satisfying catching a fish on a lure you made. I currently have my hands full with work and this channel, so I don't produce lures for sale at this time. I appreciate your interest!
Great video lots of new ideas for me how did they swim ??
Thanks! You can see how they swim on my video called: 'Testing Handmade Crankbaits on Trout.'
Regard from BRAZIL !!! Me inscrevi !!!
Hello to you; thanks for watching!
How do you work out the angles to sand the edges to. Im looking to make a few of my own lure for uk canals but its a maze trying to get started.
I just sketch out a generally fishy shape. You can decide if you want it to be thin or round or flat; it's all up to you. You will make mistakes, everyone does. But don't let that discourage you.

hey could u share which tools , products are u using for making baits ? im getting into it and i would appreciate if u share

Love the colors and shape of the lures, just wondering how would i or can i get a template of that shape and design please ?
Thank you! Because there has been so much interest, I am working towards making my templates available. I appreciate your support!
Greetings from Brazil! Just found your channel, loved the video, awesome attention to details and just subbed as well
You said it's boring to see clear coating but I'm really not familiar with mid coats like you do! Which kind of clear do you use?
Thanks for subscribing, I'm glad you like my content! Right now I'm using East Coast Resin for my clearcoats because it has a longer working time and seems to have fewer air bubbles than others I have tried.
@@zimmtex even though it's a bi component resin you are able to apply such thin layers? Very impressive! If I don't apply a generous layer I end up with spots where the resin just failed to cover
What type of clear coat do you use?
There sure are a lot out there, but right now I like True Coat the most. I have links to most of the products I use on my website:

Great video sir... what is that tools you use to make dot paint? Thnks
The dots can be made with anything small, like a toothpick. Thanks for watching!

What wood do you use to make fish lures.
You can use most any kind you want. These are balsa, but mostly I use poplar. Thanks for watching!
Sorry for multiple comments (although it's more exposure to your vid by YT standards) but I'm commenting as I'm watching. Same story with the waight hole, make it on the square body - even before the wire slot - and after you place the hardware you just drop there small led shot
Thanks for the tips!
What kind of wood do you use or what kind of wood can you use to make lures?
Great question; you can use any kind of wood you want. Different species have qualities that are better suited for particular lures. Balsa is commonly used because it is easy to carve and very buoyant. I mostly use poplar because it is durable, easy to carve, reasonably buoyant and readily available. A good all around wood to start with might be basswood. Thanks for watching!
Thanks bro really liked your videos and subscribed to your channel!! Keep up the good work
อยากได้เหยื่อเเบบนี้มานานเเล้วเเต่ไม้มีเงินซื้อครับ
Just wondering what the Name of the Pliers you used to bend the wire with are call and where can I buy a pair... love you video thank you for taking the time to put it all together for us to watch. Regards Rod
Those are called looping pliers. I'm not sure where I got them from, but you can probably find them on Amazon.
zimmtex Thank You so much for your reply
Regards: Rod
Hi, what are you doing with the baking soda? And what are you putting on it. Cheers
Baking soda is used as a filler. When you put cyanoarcylate (superglue) on it and let it harden, you can sand and shape it. Unlike putty, it is much harder and more waterproof.
@@zimmtex cool, thanks for the reply. 👍🏻
I'm confused on lip styles. Can you tell me why there are so many different designs?
This is a very good question and I will try to go a little bit more in depth on future videos. In a nutshell, a lip is just a control surface that water flows over. When water spills over the sides, the size and shape of the lip affects the lure in different ways. A wide lip has a wide wobble because as water spills off of one side, it has a farther distance to travel to spill off the other side. Length generally controls the depth of the dive, but the longer the lip, the more horizontal the angle needs to be to maintain stability.
How big is the airbrush
Not sure what you mean, but I typically use a 0.3mm needle & nozzle.
no swim test :(
Sorry, that was before I really started doing that. But I did a follow up video where I took those to Colorado and fished with them a little bit. Check out 'Fishing with Handmade Lures'.
What do u charge for a lure like that
Well, I actually don't sell lures right now. I'm just concentrating on building this channel, but I will let you know if that changes. Thank your for your interest!
Do you feel a difference between lures you buy and one that you made?
@@loralmaracle9001 Yes; in fact I can feel a difference between two identical lures I made. With handmade lures, each one is a little bit unique. I fish with lures I made as well as lures I bought. Both work, but I get more satisfaction catching fish with my lures.
Hellow ,do you sell?
Hi! I do not currently sell lures, but I will let you know if that changes. Thanks for your interest!
