From Wikipedia
The Toyota Cressida was a mid-size sedan marketed by Toyota from December 1976[1] to February 1993 through four generations. It was the flagship sedan of Toyota in the United States. The same chassis with slightly different bodies was available in other countries as the Toyota Mark II, Toyota Chaser and Toyota Cresta. The Cressida name was retired in 1992 (1993 in Australia), but the chassis and Mark II, Chaser, and Cresta names continued production in Japan until the early 2000s. In total, Toyota sold 353,053 Cressidas in the United States.
The Cressida was available worldwide in a variety of body styles and engines - including the 6-cylinder G-series, M-series, and the 4-cylinder R-series gasoline engines, as well as the 4-cylinder L series diesel.
The name "Cressida" derives from the lead character in William Shakespeare's play Troilus and Cressida.
Toyota introduced the slightly larger fourth generation of the Cressida, the MX83, in 1988 for the 1989 model year - the final generation for the Cressida in North America.
Standard features included a new, more powerful 3.0-liter straight six 7M-GE engine producing 190 horsepower (140 kW) at 6000 RPM and 185 lb-ft (250 Nm) at 4400 RPM. As with the powertrain, most other mechanicals were modified versions of those in the Supra, most notably the new double-wishbone rear suspension. Standard equipment included power windows and locks, cruise control, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Options included antilock brakes, a power driver's seat, leather upholstery, power moonroof, and a CD player. All Cressidas of this generation featured motorized automatic seat belts; airbags were never offered.

I still see a good amount of these on the road. Underrated, even for a Toyota.
Not anymore
Holey shit, this video quality is better than most people in 2020 lol
@10:00 That's the thing with this car, you're like "meeeeh", *opens hood, realizes the undercover power this thing has.

I've had one of these, and other Toyotas and I feel yours has done a LOT more than 98,000 miles
May have had a new head gasket installed, which is a good thing. They were super engines, but known to have head gasket issues. Clean and nice car, will last forever! I loved my '81.
The head gasket problem it's not the gasket. The problem is in the timing cover. The timing cover cast one thousands of a inch above the block which cases head not be seated with the block. Level the timing cover with the block an a new gasket, you can easily get over 300 thousand miles.
This was my first car
what a wonderful car you have. the Toyota cressida is one of my dream cars I wish to own some day. I know it might be really old but to me there's a little history behind it
Steven Nguyen what history?
rcman1023 it’s better to look up the Toyota Cressida’s history build.
These were very luxurious cars in their day. I owned a used Cressida Grande in Australia at one stage and it was fitted with every luxury available. And by the way, the interior was a lot quieter than the one shown in the video - something wrong with that one. The only weakness was the 7M series engine. High tech for its time (quad cam, 4 valves per cylinder, fuel inj, aluminum head, etc), it had plenty of power and torque and was smooth, but cracked heads were common. This was primarily caused by under-torqued cylinder head bolts. Factory specs were under-specified at 58 lb/ft when in fact they should have been well over 70 lb/ft. Anyway, my Cressida ended up with a cracked head though it still ran fine. An earlier car I had - a 1986 Toyota Soarer - had the turbo version of the engine (7M-GTE) which was amazing, but same problem. Found water in the sump oil one day and I knew it was stuffed. Had it repaired, replaced the timing belt at the same time, and it ran like a dream.
Did you drive it with the cracked head? My 1990 Cressida is getting coolant into one cylinder and the head appears to be fine. I am yet to discover whether or not it is warped, but I believe it is simply the head gasket.
Can you re-adjust the proper torque with a simple torque wrench?
@@syndos8900 i think the other guy mistook a regular blown head gasket for a cracked head. the head bolts were undertorqued from the factory but if you caught the problem early enough, you could hoon the engine with no major issues. if you already blew the head gasket, retightening the head bolts at this point is a roll of the dice as to whether that fixes the problem or not. the great thing is being a straight six, engine teardown is pretty straightforward.
i've never heard of 7ms getting cracked heads, but they do love blowing head gaskets due to the aforementioned undertorqued head bolts.
Miss my Cressida. Had a 1984
This is the most relaxing video
The last of the truly great Toyotas.
Very rare vehicle. I'm restoring it. It was a bad hell storm here in Chicago about two years ago. Killed the body but I'm taking my time. The parts are hard to find!
the front end reminds me SOO much of the 1990 Lexus LS
Much respect for the lovely Cressy. You have great taste.
Wow ... This car is very beautiful
the cover that came offf in the console is from one of the assist handles on the ceiling.
Are there really stacks coming off the exhaust on the far left Mercedes!?
She's beautiful, we just picked up a 1992 model with 79,000 klms for $2,000.
Glad you said straight 6 some people have an irritating twitch calling them a V6 engine.:)
this is a Toyota Supra with 4 doors. Quality stuff, and Nathan, congrats is getting the various names of the cressida right, i mean Cresta/ mark2 etc

هذه التحفة ستبقى خالدة في القلوب الى الأبد ، شكراً لك
Perfect Car
يالله ماشاءالله
The engine gaps was probably due to the head-gasket replacement that these Toyota 7M-GE engines had to do ~100k miles.
Beautiful car
I LOVE CRESSIDAS! I hope to god nobody molests this car.
يالبيــــــه .. ياكــراع سعيدة ههههههههههههههههه

Got myself a 1990 mx83r cressida. picked it up for $500 it only has a blown head gasket. Can't wait to get it driving!
they had people sold on the idea of quality and rested on their laurels, combined with the economic recession in japan that happened
I live in an area with a lot of haitians who drive high mileage toyotas hondas ect and I work in the auto service industry i see a lot of newer models at 150k 200k even close to 300k with only minor leaks and issues

A Cressida
98k original miles? That's about 160k kilometers and such a condition?! Ok, the body looks on strong "3" of "5". But the interior...oh, i don't have any words to say. Such a MESS!!!
Gabon Viper yeah, missing pieces, torn console, burns in the rear seat, steering wheel has a bite out of it lol
Gasket jizz? lol
Mark2
Cressida became redundant the day Toyota launched the Lexus LS400
That was the plan
wow, i guess toyota did have a RWD sedan at one point, avalon replaced it and became FWD.
that mark on the back seat looks like a cigarette burn. so someone smoked in that car it looks like.
