This is why they hate everyone who records their operations or equipment. They don't want the public to see what kind of shape This railroad is really in.
Play the video slow and you can see the #4 axle dropped in just before the frog. This is more likely a wide guage issue near the frog rather than picking the switch point. Either way they are living on the edge running six axle power on that track. Of course any upgrade costs money and track work is not cheap. Joys of running a railroad.

Awesome video as always Jason and I swear during the video right around the time that the engine drops off the rail, he said something about 506 I never saw 506 on any of your videos that I can remember
The FRA would only come sniffing around if they started having major derailments, at high speed, piling up cars like an accordion, spilling fuel, spilling chemicals, causing death and major destruction. All railroads have these kind of minor (annoyances) derailments. Not worth the FRA's time and effort to come out with guns a-blazin' for little things like this.
Thwy would never have time to leave CSX or NS property if they looked at every little derail that happens. Probably more than we know about on the FNBS and UP too.
"Not allowed on _CN_ track" sounds like an inspection/certification failure. Probably something minor that will be a trivial fix, but will take weeks to schedule and cycle thru the shop.
Looks like only 503 derailed. I was watching a video where CSX (?) was picking up from a industrial siding where only could pull cars at around 5 mph. some days.
Picked the switch. If the adjustment isn't tight, the switch stand moves the two pieces of rail, but if there is slop, the wheel flanges can "pick" and open up the switch rail away from the stock rail. At that point, at least that axle, if not the whole truck and subsequent trucks, will end up seeing the rails go out of gauge (because the stock rail on one side goes that way, while the stock rail on the other side goes the other way, widening apart), leaving nowhere for the axles to go except down onto the ground. In addition to having to send out a crew to re-rail the cars or locos that dropped wheels off the rails, they will want to have the road foreman, or his appointed section foreman (or subordinate) inspect the switch for damage. If no damage, likely it will require adjusting and a servicing (oiling or greasing the slideways where the steel rails are moved sideways when the switch is thrown).
i once had a dear friend who had worked for years on railroads. when it snowed heavily, and they didn't want to go out and sweep the switches, they would derail a car so that the yard would be closed.
@neilrobertson811 The railroad screwed her out of her retirement by working her 30 and 40 days straight as a dispatcher. when a dispatcher makes a mistake, which causes a fatality, they, not the company, are charged with murder. What the E & L Inferior Railroad needs to do is completely upgrade their tracks and rail bedding so trains can properly use it. Enough of cars that almost wiggle and wobble off the tracks even at turtle-paced speed. How embarrassing for a railroad to be in such a poor overall condition! The board that oversees railroad safety should shut the entire system down including all sidings until satisfactory improvements are made. What a joke!
That's a huge investment to lay out. With the tracks allowed to fall to the condition they're in presently, the easiest solution is to defer the maintenance, and put a 10 mph restriction on the poor section. The train can still negotiate rough track, and even if something does go wrong at 10 mph, the damage won't be nearly as catastrophic as it would be at 50mph or above. So, rather than pour money that they really don't have available, that is the solution. It takes all day for the train to get around, but they have money in the account to fuel up the locos, pay the employees, keep the lights on, pay the taxes, etc. You would need to sign some heavy-duty contracts guaranteeing a lot of work (and thus a lot of revenue) before the track owners would consider dumping huge sums into upgrading to better road conditions. With a bunch of additional traffic, they would need to to keep the line from becoming congested with creepy-crawling trains, so they might send in the crews to change selected ties, a few sticks of rail here and there, and maybe get the conditions good enough to handle 25 or 30 mph trains. But, this is a small company, slowly shedding customers as time goes by. They only put in the bare minimum needed to keep the trains up on the steel. If ten mph gets the job done, that is all that is needed. It's not a mainline where every 15 minutes some 12,000 ton train needs to blast by doing 55 mph.
Quite the variety of cars in this manifest... Interesting they decided to do the reblocking of the CB at Alter... then again, if they are dropping it at LP mill on way to Channing, why not? LOL.... So many small rail systems like this don't generate enough revenue to maintain their trackage. Considering the trillions of dollars the government throws away on foreign aid it seems like something could be done to help maintain these lines before they disappear. So many lines that were abandoned during the last 40 years are now needed.
The railroads today don't want to stop at the towns that made the railroad. They want to haul 120 cars from point A to point B and never stop. They forgot where they got their start.

Need to quit running 3 axles on that sub standard track
I think it is time for ELS to get some money from the state to do some rehabilating the line. New rails and ties would be a huge plus!
As always, ELS needs to replace many problematic defects or possibly add cwr to increase track speeds and help with track conditions.
I think they said it “split the switch”. Sometimes that happens when the switch handle isn’t hard over and locked

If no damage, likely it will require adjusting and a servicing (oiling or greasing the slideways where the steel rails are moved sideways when the switch is thrown).
It's usually a qualified track inspector who would look at any track issue to determine if the switch repair is necessary.
