Thanks for the another great review Will and Brandon! The Swordfish was a super ambitious project but I'm glad that we pursued it and were able make the full aluminum trainer idea a reality. -Lucas
Really looking forward to seeing where this trainer goes. I love the design and colors and look forward to getting my hands on one. It'll be a few months of setting aside the money to do so 😂
Thank you guys for the quality USA made products that are affordable. I cant wait for my titanium mods. the two boys get one squiddy a piece and I am getting the engraved squiddy-B. Will Hirsch bought the carbon honey and some of the bite handle rings. So excited, the rest of my flippers are going into the coach bag for a while lol
Another well done review, boys!! Extra audible laghter points for "will become one with the abyss", and Brandon's #not shap engraving!! Keep up the great work!!
i do own a swordfish, and i have to say that when i bought it i knew i was about to get a very particular flipping experience but i fell in love with the design and i was like "fk it don't care" and after pulling out a giraffe chadder i can say it is super fun to flip, light and fast i can do any trick i know without too many problems, it doesn't hold much of tolerances but i don't mind it, i love it.
Now I've had a Swordfish for almost 5 months and for me, as you said, it fits my style perfectly. There's just something about its flow that I love, and that's probably what feels weird to other people. Obviously even to me it's not all pros, biggest problem I've had is the disassembly, in fact I've yet to do that. Last week I sat there for about 10 minutes constantly heating it up with a hairdryer but to no result. It's quite sad to see since not only I really wanna try the weight pins, now it's got some tap that I can do absolutely nothing about. Also I find the plain part of the handles to be pretty slippery but I guess it's just the nature of bead blasted aluminum. Anyway, I'm so impressed with the Swordfish that eventually I'm gonna get another one with the color combo I want (the one I have now was the prize of a comp I went to)
Your intros are the BEST. I usually skip intros to get to the tea ☕️. BUT, you intros are soooooooo gooooooood where I stick around for the funny and amazing jokes you got in the back of your sleeves, or should I say Brandon Clones?? No but really, thank you for what you have done with the community as a whole! Keep up the amazing work.
I got a swordfish a couple weeks ago knowing it would be something new and different, since my preferences are usually heavier (4.5-5oz) balisongs. I was blown away by how much i love the swordfish. With both weight pins installed in each handle, this has literally become one of my favorite flippers. It's light and feels effortless to flip, but at the same time it carries momentum really well, much to my surprise. Also I didn't have any issues disassembling so maybe that's a problem with just earlier models or something. Overall, LOVE this balisong. Also love the content, keep it up!
My first impressions of it was that it looks really cool but it's weird and interesting. It's longer than all my balisongs, it's light, the handles are kinda thin, and it's fully aluminum but after having it for a few weeks, I'm really liking. It's probably the balisong I flip the most, next to my squid trainer. I've dropped it dozens of times and still has very minimal tap and play. Didn't really tune it either, only thing I've done was re-lube it and it's still flipping really well
@pneuMa Depends on what you prefer and your flipping style. The squid trainer is heavier, the handles are a little thicker and shorter, and the balance is neutral. Personally I like both
I skimmed the comments and didn’t see anyone mention it, but the disassembly issue may be the steel screw heads galling on the softer aluminum. I have a Chris Reeve Sebenza and they actually use the fact that the harder steel screw heads gall on the softer titanium to hold their screws in without loctite. The same principle would apply to steel on aluminum.
I don’t know why but my comment about BBbarfly making the first aluminum channel balisong just disappeared lol. Anyways I did more research and I found out that BBbarfly OG trainer had aluminum channel handles and was first made in 2010 way before Squid made the squid trainer.
I had a blast idea to do a god of war theme colors, what’s even luckier there third version had a BLUE blade. So the handles are silver and red, while the blade is black and blue. Black for original trilogy, blue for the reboot. Def had to stretch the blue because of ragnoroks color theme, but it works!!😂😂
Y'all need to do another Amazon video since your knives got introduced several new designs have came out that I think we all would love to see ure reactions and opinions too
I guess the bite handle thing is because when you chaplain your finger goes down the blade, so its sliding on the back of the waves rather than through them
As long as the QC is better than it has seemed to be it seems like it could be great for the price. But for me squid has 2 strikes agaisnt them due to both my purchases from them having QC issues (and with my naut just issues in general) so I'm hesitant. Might get it or a squid trainer but either one might end up being that 3rd strike. In terms of the disassembly I really wish they'd switch to D shaped pivots or at least something like a captive pivot as well as either ditch the 2 sided screws or make both of them actual screws rather than what they seem to do with one side being more shallow than the other. Their hardwear (at least for me) tends to strip a bit too readily.
Loved the video! Really fun, definitely could see the extra effort and you guys having fun making it. Brandon squashing will for his opinion was a funny surprise haha
I do think if you took care of it can be a great trainer to have, but I know too many people who dropped it one or two times and it ended up finding cuz the blade is softer material than the bushings and pivots. So it's definitely not a beater
Squid was not the first to do channel aluminum with or without a live blade (Microtech did it with the Tachyon 3). Squid was probably the first to do it well though.
@@WillHirsch I think you might be right actually, thanks for the correcting me. While the Tach 3 beat the Kraken to being an aluminum live blade, your sentiment is still totally right. Lucas has been pushing boundaries non stop. Great video as always, guys.
while its actually not the first aluminum pinsless it is the first full aluminum balisong that also is pinsless. (fiore did a pinsless aluminum trainer back when which are rare but exist and if i recall there were others who wanted to do similar before the swordfish existed. i'm the rabbit hole explorer of the community.)
Amazing video as always. Odd to see that the Swordfish has issues with the weights being so heavy at the end but I don't think I find the same issues with my Machinewise Opus and I put the heaviest brass weights in and flips so much better than not having them in at all. Maybe its just because of the aluminum handles rather than titanium handles but what do I know. Just really interested in trying both and seeing the difference.
Great video as always guys! Definitely going to consider buying a swordfish looks like it would make a good “RUclips safe” balisong that is also a decent flipper. Right now I use my squiddy-c so RUclips doesn’t think it’s a weapon but I’m personally not a fan of the weight distribution and find it doesn’t flow very well.
Honestly I hate RUclips right now because in one of my videos I was flipping a trainer and I got my video taken down and I got a warning for it I get that I'm 16 but goddamn
I'm getting fed-up with their rollout of the Swordfish... first, they release the black blade (which is already an option on all their metal balisongs), then bare metal blade (also already available) then the blue blades, but instead of continuing with the new colors (there was only one left to release) they restock black and silver, then go to ti-mod... there's a difference between building anticipation and causing frustration; it shifted from anticipation to frustration for me when they decided to restock the black/silver blades instead of just releasing the final blade color... 🤬
Hey will by any chance do you have a cheap good balisong that’s under 30 bucks? I’m 10 and I’m really into butterfly knifes and I want a good balisong but I only have a fork and spoon knife and normal black and white knifes. So can you please help my find one, thanksssssss🤙
The Nabalis G10 models on Amazon are probably your best bet there. Though, we ALWAYS recommend spending at least $50 on butterfly knife trainers, spending less than that usually only gets you really poor quality
