I think people would have seen a fire. It was at night if I heard right? Sophisticated alarm system really, should have a different sound for fires. How hard would that have been?
You're right--not hard at all. And even if not that, people would have seen fires on the hillsides and not gone that way.
Those sirens would have saved people. The excuse they are using for not sounding the alarms is just BS. Do they really think people would have run into the fire thinking there was a tsunami? Just by using common sense people would have known the fire is the reason the alarm is sounding off.

When we hear a siren or warning signals, we turn on our radio or check our phones for alerts. It would've been better then not to have any warning at all. We loss lives.
Regardless of “protocol” the sirens alerting people of the massive fire danger should have been sounded, how many more people would still be alive if they had? And why were the alarms ONLY being utilized for a tsunami that’s insane, it’s not the Only peril on the island, particularly when they have volcanic activity, that exists on those islands.
More people would have died if they sounded the alarms I guarantee it. That fire went from the mountain to the ocean in 17 minutes. My brother barely made it out alive. There is one road to get in and out of that town and there’s often traffic on it in the best of times.
The electricity should have been shutdown like they do in California during high winds. I used to live there and the only warning that could have helped would be to get to the ocean and grab something that floats, because the water was the way to go. I have never seen a wildfire like that.

@@garettanderson6772Why? it’s true. Are you even from Lahaina? There are monthly tsunami warnings out there. Had the sirens gone off, people would have gone to high ground and more people would have died because the town is trapped between steep mountains and the ocean. Speaking with survivors, those that went to the ocean made the right choice.

"We didn't sound the sirens because they're not for wildfires." Sirens are used to alert people about dangers. They would've seen the fires on the mountain and would've gotten out of town, especially if the way up the mountain (near the flames) had been properly blocked off.
Sidenote: Cancer diagnoses in people 30 - 40 are increasing because that age demographic went without healthcare for decades. Now, we're getting into positions that have healthcare benefits and are finally going to the doctor to get proper diagnoses. That's part of the issue. Cancer diagnoses will rise as we continue to deregulate companies, especially those working with fossil fuels, plastics, and chemicals.
Mary; if they could see a wildfire, on the mountains, traveling a mile a minute, that’s warning enough. That’s exactly how fast it was moving btw. It happened way way too fast to alert people. Where were they going to go? The ocean, that’s right. And lastly, blaming does zippo to help the recovery process. You probably don’t even live in Hawaii.

We have different lenghts of sounds for diffrent emergencies and this is what I do not understand they can easily have triggered a series of long and short sounds and I am sure the system is designed to do that !!!

Sophisticated alarm system wasn’t used and no information about how and where the fire 🔥 started. Something is missing from the picture !
Part of the problem is that the warning sirens are also tied with medical needs and also the fire pumps. This makes decision-making difficult, but the sirens should have sounded, nonethless.

See the problem with the system, we learn to praise those who run towards danger, not away from it, who trying to help the ones that stuck in it, but the problem is at one time it was a natural thing for all to do. Some how things got lose, and only a few found away to hold on to. See the left leg don't thanks the right leg for keeping in step to move where the mind taking them. That arms don't thanks each other for holding one tight to not to fall. We lose the community unity in what it stands for, but what so strange we have to many worship places throughout all the communities. That wherever one drop at they sure to find many holy places, which supposed to be the body of the communities, that houses the community life, but they also lost their way. What one is saying when they give bravery to just a few, is saying the rest have a lot of cowardliness in them. Rips my soul apart for the loss of lives. The neglengece of the emergency management and others are inhumane and cruel, shame on them all involved in not sounding emergency sirens and alerts. It's very obvious that those sirens should have been blaring a loud warning. The national incompetence of many governmental agencies is alive & well in the Hawaiian governmental apparatus. There are clear signs of the deadly carelessness . That's enough to constitute a prima facie case of gross negligence. There will be future legal actions based on the doctrines that deal with a mass tort like this. GOOD LUCK HAWAII !!!!
