The Commodores rose to fame in the 1970s as a seven-member band with a unique blend of funk, soulful harmonies, and captivating performances. They achieved massive success with hits like 'Brick House,' 'Easy,' and 'Three Times a Lady.' The notable band members were Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, Sheldon Reynolds, Walter Clyde Orange, James Dean Nicholas, Skyler Jett, Ronald LaPread and William King Milan Williams.

Lionel Ritchie was my favorite commodore
The Commodores are one of my favorite groups of all time.and they were many members of the Commodores.they were a band, nor just a regular singing group. Yes,it was 6 main members. Lionel Richie,Walter Orange,Thomas McClary,Milan Williams,Ronald LaPread William King.but there was also the 'Mean Machine'. Including Darrell Jones,David Cochane and my favorite Harold Hudson. I loved Harold 's vocals on the In the Pocket ('81), Greatist hits ('82) and 13 ('83) albums.
I loved each and everyone they were as one to me talent owed from them all the group was my favorite ❤❤❤❤
The entire original line up stood out to me.
I agree they were all tops, in my book!
Was at Tuskegee Institute when they were on fire. Have a story about each one of them. Was on the Tuskegee Institute tennis team from '75 to '78, as was Lionel in the late 1960's. He would often come out to watch us practice when they were back in town. Once when we were short of cash for the Fisk Invitationals in Nashville, he wrote us a check for $500. We won 27 out of the 30 trophies that were awarded that weekend. Will never forget his kindness.
William A. King (we called him WAK) was also on the team with Lionel and would practice with us. He is a talented tennis player along with his musical talent. Walter Orange was in the Alabama State Mighty Marching Hornets Band when my Dad, Dr. Thomas E, Lyle, was the band director. Milan Williams' wife, Gwen, was my political Science professor at Tuskegee, Thomas McClary is my homeboy from Florida. Saw him a few months ago when I was travelling. I have on my Tuskegee Instuitute tennis sweater in line waiting to board. He was getting off of a fight, saw my seater and smiled. We talked for bit before my flight departed. Ronald LaPread took my girl........I had a 10 speed bike and he had a brand new Benz. I don't blame her!!! lol They were SUperstars back the, but when they came home to Tuskegee, they were just regular guys.
My favorite artist was and will always and remain Lionel Richie ❤
Lionel Richie was and still get my vote for his outstanding vote

My friend Sheldon Reynolds just past away this June. Not Dec 3rd. 2020!
Indeed! I saw him at NAMM 2023 in April!!!!!!!
I thought so. Thank you for clearing that up.
Nice group 👍
Information about Sheldon is incorrect!!!!!
That's I was asking my self.
Whoever is narrating this video doesn't know what they're talking about regarding the history of the Commodores. They started out as 6 members (Lionel Richie, Walter Orange, Thomas McClary, Milan Williams, Ronald LaPread and William King) from college from Tuskagee, Alabama. Lionel Richie left in the early 80's along with guitarist Thomas McClary. Both members was replaced by JD Nicholas which made them a 5 member group. Sheldon Reynolds didn't become a member from 1982-1987 to end up becoming a member of Earth Wind & Fire.
Exactly
...Yep just keeping it correct!!!
Thank you for correct information, and they were all gifted musicians and college friends in the beginning.
Amen, because I only known Reynolds as a member of E.W.F, and not a members of The Commodores.
Sheldon Reynolds played on the comeback Touch The World album by Earth, Wind & Fire, released around 1986/1987.
This means he played on songs like System of Survival, Thinking Of You and also did that great guitar solo on the lesser-known Victim of The Modern Heart.
I recall that he was with the Commodores but can't remember the time period.
It would have been any black youngster's dream to play with the Commodores or EW& F and he played with both black supergroups.
Great guitar player. 🎸
Tom Joyner was also an original member 😊
It's Milan(My -Lan) Williams he's My Cousin...Get the info & Pronunciation Correct...R.I.P 🙏🕊
This was my group, they made you dream. And had a connection to God. But when the old serpent raised his head, he divided the group. Every good black group the industry whisper in the person’s ear that sings most songs. “ you don’t need them”. But they don’t want to honor a group of blacks. They go out and perform, they still have to have a band. But most white bands stay together or come back together. And get honored as a group. But I salute the groups that stayed together. We as blacks need to wake up, no man is a island, togetherness is much more. Why do we crave acceptance from other people, when everything we have they try and take. We had messages in our music. It spoke of love, pride and lifting up. Now we have a bunch of no singing people that sells destruction on our own people. For all the sellouts, was it worth it?
Sorry l spelled Lionel Richie's name wrong so I had to honor him and do it again correctly. Especially since I've now forgiven him for cheating on his 1st wife and since I saw a photo of that gorgeous son of his 2 days ago who looks exactly like his father.l had not seen him since his father had him on a show before he was even walking.
Another member of the Commodores who in 2023
So basically only one original member has passed!
WRONG INFO ABOUT THE COMMODORES........😡
Ron is Dr tito 3cuz
Most of the members discussed here are not DEAD! The title of this video is so misleading!
THIS IS THE SECOND VIDEO ON THE COMMODORES I HAVE SEEN IN THE LAST TEN MINUTES THAT REFERRED TO THEM AS BEING A SEVEN-PIECE BAND IN THEIR PRIME 1970'S DAYS. THEY WERE A SIX-PIECE BAND IN THOSE DAYS. AND SHELDON REYNOLDS DIDN'T APPEAR WITH THE BAND UNTIL AFTER 1984, WHEN THEIR HIT MAKING ERA HAD ENDED. AND ONCE AGAIN THE NARRATION SOUNDS LIKE AN A.I. BOT. IF Y'ALL ARE GOING TO DO THIS STUFF, GET YOUR HISTORY STRAIGHT, GET A LIVE VOICE THAT CAN PRONOUNCE "MILAM WILLIAMS' THE WAY HIS MAMA INTENEDED IT TO BE PRONOUNCED AND TAKE THIS THING DOWN UNTIL YOU DO!!!
Not sure who wrote this but there are some serious discrepancies regarding Sheldon's Birth and Death! Wow! How could someone get BOTH of these WRONG?? Please be extra careful when you post these things about a person. Being wrong means you ruin HISTORY! According to TWO references that I have checked, and one includes Wikipedia, Brother Sheldon was born on September 13, 1959, NOT November 27, 1953 as you stated! In addition, Sheldon sadly passed away on May 23, 2023, NOT December 3, 2020 as you have stated! These dates are NOT even CLOSE! Wow!! You need to take a second look and make the appropriate corrections. I stopped there and did not bother listening about the other members of the Commodores that have passed! I cannot trust your information now so I will move on! Please... I know these errors are NOT intentional but we cannot afford to allow these type of mistakes to represent people we love and respect. Thanks and I hope you repost this with ALL necessary corrections!!! Thank you!
i always say, band members should always get their credits for the most part of all singers , because every good singers has a great band and the fans and critics should always need to remember that whatever singers or songs are popular and awarded -
