NCUHS Holiday Concert

WINTER CONCERT 2024
Down at North Country High School, an amazingly spectacular Winter Concert is in the works for December 17th at 6:30pm. This concert includes the North Country Band, the Jazz Band, the Chorus, the Select Choir, and the Back to Basics as well as Estrellas groups. Each group is bound to have a dazzling display as they focus on their specialties; playing an instrument or using their vocals.
Band
North Country High School Band will be performing 5 songs at the concert, with a few being conducted by students in the band. ‘A River's Fury’ by James Swearingen will be conducted by Aiden Briggs who is band president and is a senior. ‘Instant Concert’ by Harold Walters will be conducted by Sarah Wainwright who is band vice president and is a senior. ‘Jingle Jazz’ by David Shaffer will be conducted by Maggie Ryan who is band treasurer and is a senior. ‘Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy’ arranged by Smith and Story will be conducted by Dylan Carr who is a Sophomore. Lastly, ‘Fiesta De Los Bravos’ by James Swearingen will be conducted by Andrew Frappier who has been the band fill-in conductor for the past year with William Prue being out.
Jazz Band
The North Country Jazz Band will be performing 4 songs at the Winter Concert with two of the songs having students playing solos. In ‘Chameleon’ by Herbie Hancock, Bennie Maupin, Paul Jackson, and Harvey Mason, both Maggie Ryan (Senior) and Dylan Carr (Sophomore) have solos. In ‘Vehicle’ arranged by Ralph Ford, both Sarah Wainwright (Senior) and Aiden Briggs (Senior) have solos. The Jazz Band will also be playing ‘Harlem Nocturne’ arranged by Rick Stitzel and ‘Sleighing It’ arranged by Steve Parsons. All of the jazz band songs will be conducted by Andrew Frappier.
Chorus
The North Country Chorus will be performing 4 pieces, all conducted by Danielle Carrier. The songs the Chorus will be performing are, Nutcracker Jingles by James Pierpont, Pie Jesu by Hyun Kook, Solitude of Snow by Mark Burrows, and Betelehemu by Andy Beck.
Select Choir
The North Country Select Choir is a singing group where you need to audition to possibly be accepted. This talented group of singers will be performing two songs in the Winter Concert. These songs are Fum Fum Fum which is arranged by Howard Helvey and Surge Illuminare by Michael John Trotta. Both of these songs will be conducted by Danielle Carrier, the conductor for all singing groups.
Estrellas
The North Country Estrellas group is a group of students, normally with a higher singing range, who get together to share their talents and have fun while learning new songs to sing. For the Winter Concert, the Estrellas group will be performing Glow by Eric Whitacre. Danielle Carrier is the conductor for this group.
Back To Basics
The North Country Back To Basics group is a group of students, normally with a lower singing range who get together to learn new songs and share their love for singing. For the Winter Concert, the Back To Basics group will be performing Silent Snowfall by Laura Farnell. Danielle Carrier is the conductor for this group.
Extra Concert Information
The Winter Concert will showcase all of these groups and will POSSIBLY be put onto facebook live depending on whether or not someone is there to record. If there is bad weather on the day of the concert, be on the lookout for any announcements regarding a date change but if there is no announcement, stick with the same time, same day as you were told earlier.
