I agree with the Toybiz take. They put so much attention to sculpt and paint detail that it wasn’t funny. The amount of paint variation we got over top of suits and stuff was crazy. The series one hulk isn’t perfect, but the variation over his skin and even textured lines in his nails still amaze me. Astonishing Wolverine also had great sculpt and paint detail (airbrushed orange variation and sculpted stitches on his suit). I know the proportions are dated by now, but I still love their figures and pick them up if I see them. They put more care into their figures than Hasbro.
Hasbro does it better but toybiz gave us more for less. Hasbro less for more. Toybiz- Ghost rider and his motorcycle 15.99 hasbro ghost rider amd his motorcycle 40, 50 ,60
Respectfully, I feel we were spoiled and took Toy Biz for granted for that time. I would say they have the biggest pole shift for sculpts, but their paint apps would still hold up for today’s standards. Not to mention the additions to the figures such as bases, comics, accessories, vehicles. Today Hasbro would consider some of them Haslab tiers. Need I mention the SCALE OF THEIR BAFs? The Sentinel, Apocalypse, Galactus are compared to today’s Haslabs. We got a Puck, Jubilee, and Rocket Raccoon for Cheezit’s sake. Alas, good times are gone. The one thing I think we can all agree on is that the disappointing rapid increase in inflation and cost of licensing (Disney) has truly deprived of these once expected inclusions. The Golden Age has passed and may never be equaled again.
Do you remember a Dark days of marvel legends & Spider-man Toys went Hasbro took over Marvel toy license from Toybiz Since 2007-2008 by releasing built a figure wave from some reason & Series Repains
I've seen MULTIPLE videos of Mafex figures.. especially Spider Man .. where the leg came off Also as far as weapons are concerned..i gave Zabu wave Cable the massive gun from Sasquatch wave Cable ..then i gave him the massive Deathlok gun.
Biggest Hasbro pet peeve is definitely repaints that have minimal changes for full price rereleases. The only remnant I have from the Toybiz era, is the movie accurate Professor X wheelchair that my Hasbro Professor X actually pairs nicely with.
Toybiz concentrated on its figures paint and detailing then Hasbro and not all its figures had to have the same of what you expect from Hasbro when you buy a Hasbro figure . Toybiz did its marketing far better with its packaging and prices that made more common sense and let's not forget it didn't lack the accessories that Hasbro cheats on its customers. With . You weren't manipulated. By the company like Hasbro's been doing . If toybiz had given you a big Galactus I pretty much don't think they will make you spend $ 800 Dollars for it . That's for sure toybiz still wins. But you got to give it to Hasbro despite its troubles it's having behind the scenes. It's pulling off some much better improvements than expected . But still lacking the formula in some places it's trying to live up to what toybiz did in the early 2000s .when toybiz was at its best. Toybiz wins this one . In my opinion. .
Youi can’t compare them bc one has been defunct for almost 20 years and used the technology that had been available, however pound for pound of both were making toys today thenToybiz is miles ahead.
Nah the guy that spoke about Mafex QC is definitely right. I have 4 Mafex figures and 3 of them had major QC issues right out of the box while I’ve had dozens of hasbro figures and not nearly as many of them have issues as bad as Mafex
Hot take: I think we will experience a “we done with toybiz” scenario because of how often Hasbro’s work is STILL mocked despite us having the greatest year of figures for the line (articulation wise.)
@@chewymewSuperior Spidey, Retro Scarlet Spider, Heroes For Hire 2 pack and Astonishing Wolverine all have great articulation, and ones like Spiderman India ATSV is using the GI Joe style torso
Hot take but the less paint a figure has the better. Too much paint on a figure and it can act like a glue getting joints stuck and at the end of the day these are action figures meant to be posed and articulated, too much paint also results in chipping. Plus not all paint jobs are created equal, do we really want more half assed, over priced Hasbro cel shading on the grounds of "well at least it's painted", even if that paint job is cheeks? Or sloppy black washes like what Toybiz used to do? If I want more paint on a figure I'll do it myself, even then it'll be minimal because Hasbro does a good enough job with the figures they put out.
I’ve never agreed with an action figure take so much!!! When I hear someone complain about how much sculpt work there is I’m just glad there’s no chance of the paint fading from me playing with it.
@@chewymew I like Neca stuff, not gonna lie, their figures suffer from the things I mentioned, got a Renet for 15 bucks, arms were stuck and I basically had to remove the pegs and replace them, not a big deal cause I was gonna use that figure for customs anyway but still not acceptable. Got a Last Ronin figure, paint chips on the joints. It's not a deal breaker but it's definitely a con, but a very minor one. Plus Neca's soft goods figures? Not so much paint on them. I like Neca but I would still like them if their figures weren't as painted.
Toy Biz had more unique sculpts and more detailed paint jobs. But the articulation was sometimes janky, they often experimented with new set ups that didnt work at all, and their female figures were often very, very rough. The only Toy Biz I keep in my collection is the Green Goblin, that thing is incredible and far better than any that Hasbro have done.
Hard disagree on that, it's probably not fair to compare the two because one has been dead for almost 20 years and the other is still making figures but by and large Hasbro has put out more unique sculpts than Toybiz, just objectively speaking. Not counting base bucks and going off of what I have in my collection but Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, She-Hulk, MODOK, Mojo, Spiral, Juggernaut, Destroyer, Venom, Magik, Shocker, Storm, Cyclops, Beast, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, a ton of Iron Man figures, War Machine, Odin, Hulkbuster, Colossus, Cable, Nightcrawler, The Thing, Toad, Dr. Doom, Apocalypse, Thanos, Kang, Power Princess, Titania, Ultron you get the idea? And that's not even including BAFs. All those characters have unique sculpts to them that have either never been shared with another character (or they're used to make an offshoot of a character like Grey Hulk or Eric Masterson Thor) or they may share a few parts here and there. And that's just comic stuff, MCU figures always get new sculpts. I'm getting a little tired of this narrative that Hasbro doesn't put out as many unique sculpts when they clearly do.
I sold that Green Goblin (stab my eyes!), but I still have that Spiderman Classics Legends adjacent Hobgoblin figure. That is a John Romita, Jr. drawing in figure form.
My hot take, Face Off Captain America from Toy Biz is overrated. The hips joints are awful on that figure. His proportions on his back and torso are too big too. Sure, it was a good figure for its time, but there have been better Marvel Legends Captain America figures to come after it.
I think more Marvel legends can be better than what they are overall, especially compared to other contemporary toy lines at retail, like the Jada Toys Street Fighter figures, and even Hasbro's own GI Joe classified line, most figures are just reused body bucks with new heads, basic paint, and limited accessories, figures like Spiral, Lady Mandarin Psylocke, the Astonishing X-Men Wolverine, and the recently released Warbird/ Ms. Marvel, could and SHOULD be the norm, not the exceptions.
Toybiz still wins over Hasbro .in its early 2000s toybiz still blows hasbro out of the water. Hasbro's figures when it took over marvel legends .they made the most horrible looking figurines with barely any articulations and that lasted for more then fifteen years . before they started to improve but still toybiz in its early years beats Hasbro. its no debate 🧸 if toybiz had not gone out of business it would of been probably able to compete with mafex or compete with more expensive figures companies having a more affordable price tag .Hasbro greed destroys its own company without people currently knowing doing illegal practices . For some one To think hasbro is better then toybiz in its early days . They Are just brain washed. But i got to give it to Hasbro despite its behind the scenes trouble of getting caught cheating its costumers. Its improving a lot . Unfortunately toybiz went out of business before it got better . Remember it took Hasbro a long time to improve its head sculpt and body articulations can you imagine if toybiz never went out of business. It would barely get bad reviews. .
I hope this doesn't upset some Spider-Man fans, but I believe Hasbro should update the Pizza Spider-Man figure by adding a diaphragm and an ab crunch. While I like the Amazing Fantasy mold, I consider the Pizza Spider-Man my definitive version and think it deserves an upgrade. Growing up during the J Scott Campbell and Andrew Garfield era, so I've always preferred leaner Spider-Man figures.
wow thanks for including my comment, i can agree with you that some sculpts were really bad on the toybiz figures, they could not make female figures. btw i love hasbro a lot aswell.
Is relative, in some things hasbro is better but in other ones toy biz still the goat, but there is no point un comparing in the end they are just marvel figures that we love and enjoy so is just a fact at of What you like or not.
Hasbro is lazy and expensive. McFarlane gave us a batmobile for $60 or 80 if you bought the fig but hasbro charging over 349 or almost just for some car and ghost rider. And McFarlane has better figures but toybiz I think is superior due to the finger articulation and the body and I think they made cheap affordable and some of the best figures that were ever made sadly hasbro just charges $27 for a meh figure like the new Tobey is definitely not as good as the old toybiz so overall toybiz is better in my opinion
Toybiz wins as far as Bang for Buck(for that time) and Paint and detail. Hasbro still hasn't learned in those areas... and got newcomers like Jada toys beating them. Two words: inflation and hasbro being greedy
ToyBiz was so generous… too bad selling these for so cheap was one of the reasons that led to their downfall.
